  1. QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 09:52 PM) right oblique strain. Remember seeing when he did it in that long at bat... Happened on Wednesday. Gotta hope that heals up quickly.
  2. Dan Johnson and Orlando Hudson to join the Sox http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,2410544.story
  3. A's and Angels making it look easy this week. It stinks that Pujols was out for the series against the Tigers, but they play them again next week. It's amazing how bad the Red Sox and Indians are right now.
  4. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 03:22 AM) Sox picked a bad time to slump. Too many guys in that lineup who don't carry their weight (hi Gordon and Dayan!) Everyone but Alexei seems to be slumping. Youk's 0 for his last 12, Wise has cooled off big time and PK/Dunn struggling like crazy to get an extra base hit. Like you said, bad time to slump especially facing Max and Verlander the next two games. I never thought I'd say this, but I hope Olmedo gets the start tomorrow vs Scherzer (Max dominates righties).
  5. Delmon's easily had his most success in the majors against the White Sox out of all teams. Good thing Ozzie taught him a lesson by having Garcia throw at him in his first AB.
  6. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 02:57 AM) Wasn't me. Hell there have been a few games recently where Thornton has been pitching in the 8th and I'm screaming for Meyers even with nobody on. Personally I'd rather die with Meyers than Thornton. That's because McLouth has destroyed Myers in his career and has been horrific vs LHP the last three years. I really wish Ventura unleashed Veal and used him in tough spots against lefty hitters.
  7. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 03:54 AM) I wonder if trying to learn to throw more breaking balls has ruined him. That's the only pitch he's used effectively the last few months. Just seem like a lot of the pitchers on the roster are fatigued. I don't even know who's in the rotation anymore. Is Axelrod officially the 5th, or is Santiago facing the Twins? It's still surprising to me that KW didn't make a play for a starting pitcher during the waiver period. As flavum keeps saying, the Sox are one "low velocity start" for Sale away from having to scramble to fill a start or two.
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 02:45 AM) Did AJ call for that pitch to Delmon Young or did Thornton miss a spot? Every time Young comes up, Hawk/Stone/Farmer/DJ seem to all say he loves it down & in. That pitch was in his f***ing wheelhouse. I would love to see stats comparing the number of swings and misses Thornton got on his fastball in previous years compared to this year. If you didn't know better, you'd think he was throwing 88 mph.
  9. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 03:37 AM) Srious question tho......How many teams have won a division with ZERO lefties in their rotation? I really am interested in that stat. They've had Smyly pitch a good amount of games for them.
  10. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 03:32 AM) Absolutely. The last time Detroit swept em, the Sox only won 10 of their next 13 and won the next 4 series. Done. And that's why just winning one game this series is so important.
  11. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 03:31 AM) Tigers have just as many flaws as we do as a team. Sure, I agree. But that doesn't matter if they show up and play hard and keep beating the White Sox. Miguel Cabrera has just destroyed the Sox this season, and letting Rick Porcello look like Kevin Brown in his prime hasn't helped much. Problem with losing against the ineffective Fister tonight is you facing the hottest pitcher in baseball tomorrow in Scherzer. Liriano has been abysmal in his career against the Tigers as well. Gotta find a way to win before heading into Sunday Night's game.
  12. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 02:20 AM) Guys, its not over yet. Let's hope for a miracle W tomorrow. It gets to a point (and maybe this is a defense mechanism I'm using) where it's hard to believe the Sox deserve the AL Central title if they get dominated by the Tigers during the second half of the year. If they go something like 2-8 or 1-9 vs them after the ASB, then you probably aren't going to beat them in the standings. At some point, you have to beat your main competition head-to-head and not make the Royals do your dirty work.
  13. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 03:17 AM) I wouldn't risk it. He still has time to get hot and carry the team. He crushed a ball tonight that's a HR in every other park around. I'd rather have the ceiling be much higher than the floor raised a little. I think you pick and choose which righties he would face. Someone like Verlander, I would absolutely go with Wise and ADA in the outfield. Viciedo's strikeout splits vs LHP/RHP are crazy.
  14. How long has it been since the Sox had a lead in Detroit for an entire inning? I think we're going on 45 innings now and trailing or tied for something like 53 of the last 54 innings there.
  15. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 02:12 AM) Looking at Tank's splits is really alarming. He's been awful outside of May. When ADA gets back, you have to consider sitting Viciedo more against RHP. That shoulder injury seemed to ruin any rhythm he might have been getting into.
  16. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 01:59 AM) Don't forget the hitters going like 0/12 with RISP. Konerko's just a non-factor right now. The Tigers 1-5 is deadly right now
  17. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 12:22 AM) I am sick of Peavy. Just sick and tired of him. All the talk from him and he fails spectacularly in the biggest game of the year. You sound like a Padres fan:)
  18. So I see Small Game Peavy and the coaching staff didn't show up again. Ugh, terrible start to this series. Is Hawk going to blast the Sox coaching staff for shuffling the rotation like he urged them not to do?
  19. It's amazing how bad Escobar is against the Tigers compared to against the Sox. KC needed to put up more than one that inning
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 10:37 PM) Cmon. The guy is the slowest player in baseball. Just cause you're slow doesn't mean you don't have to hustle down the bases and/or throw your bat and hang your head in disgust whenever you pop a ball up. As the captain, he needs to lead by example. Something I've always respected Jeter for is that he hustles on every play, regardless of how routine an out it is. With that said, Ventura did a great job in changing the culture of the team this year in order to get them to hustle more often on routine plays. I'm pretty sure it was Dick Allen on here that used to cite an article he read where scouts couldn't even get home to first times on the Sox a few years ago cause no one was hustling.
  21. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 09:46 PM) Just sweep the Tiggers this weekend and all will be well. sweep = miracle two = it's all good one = could be much worse swept = partial meltdown
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 07:09 PM) He called a horrible game today, just horrible. To the point I was wondering why he was pitching right to hitters tendencies You have to wonder if his slump at the plate is causing him to lose his focus behind the plate. He's playing just awful baseball of late.
  23. Times like this I wish we had that one power bat on the bench.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 07:06 PM) Thanks. So that adds up to 11-17. I wonder how other teams would fare in a similar stretch. Probably just a couple games better is all. The 2-6 vs. baltimore is pretty s***ty. 2-6 vs Boston is even worse
  25. Flavum, this is last 4 game series on the road for the year, correct? Sox have two at home, I believe.
