QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ May 6, 2012 -> 05:27 PM) Are you telling me this guy is going to be our 5th starter the rest of the year? 2004 here we come again? Ughhhh If he gets crushed, I think we'll see KW eager to call up Molina
-
For all the trashing of JL3 on here, he gives the Bulls a better chance of winning than Watson now.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 6, 2012 -> 05:23 PM) In case Axlerod gives us a quality start you could always say the jinx worked.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 6, 2012 -> 05:19 PM) AAAAxelrod? 4A, get it? ha! Very nice! No wonder there's only two "A's" in Santiago
-
Too bad Stewart's been a bust, as I'm sure there was hope he could be a fill-in starter this year. Axelrod has to give this team 5-6 innings no matter what today with the DH tomorrow.
-
Haha, that didn't take long. Keep throwing fastballs Axelrod...or should we say Axelrocked

QUOTE (fathom @ May 6, 2012 -> 06:12 PM) Porcello looks great, just like he did at the Cell in April Yes, the jinx worked!

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 6, 2012 -> 04:59 PM) When do you think Cashman will be interested in dealing with Seattle again? As soon as Felix is on the market -

QUOTE (MAX @ May 6, 2012 -> 04:56 PM) I mean no offense, but if Reed failed, posters such as yourself would likely be complaining that kenny (the devil) rushed him into the closers role. Wasn't there a poll on here before the season where Reed had the most votes as player that soxtalk wanted to close? -

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ May 6, 2012 -> 04:55 PM) The team also might not be ready to throw Reed into the fire. Maybe they don't want to rush him and possibly ruin him. That would make sense if Sale's move was temporary for a few months. A few of us said this the other day, but after listening to Hawk talk about the move, it would be shocking if Sale ever started for the Sox again. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 6, 2012 -> 04:52 PM) Actually, I do respect Fathom's opinion about Ventura a lot more than my own about Williams because he's less emotional and prone to overreaction. Wait, what? -

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ May 6, 2012 -> 04:50 PM) What should they have done, DL him with an "oblique strain?" This team doesn't operate like that. Sale still has value because he still has upside. There's a team out there that thinks they can fix him. There's a team out there that will give value to have a potentially dominant closer. We'll know in a couple months how valuable he is. From the sound of it, Sale had similar elbow soreness pitching out of relief last year as well. If the Sox knew they were going to put him back to closer at the first hint of soreness this year, then it's unlikely his trade value would ever be higher than it was this past offseason. There's also the theory that despite what's being said, this was more of a move to stabilize the closer role this year regardless of how healthy Sale is. -
Cubs just DFA'd DeWitt. Give me him over Escobar as a back-up 2b/3b

QUOTE (MAX @ May 6, 2012 -> 05:45 PM) It is absolutely ridiculous to say that we are wasting reed at this point in his career. I'd said this yesterday, but trading Reed for a 3rd baseman (cost-controlled) wouldn't be the dumbest thing in the world. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 6, 2012 -> 05:37 PM) Okay, I'm offering an olive branch. I won't mention Don Cooper for another 27 games, until Game 54. Will you agree not to mention Greg Walker, no matter what happens with the Braves and the White Sox? On that day, we can open the debate again. Right now, the results are premature and inconclusive. You can argue we might not even know until 2013 or 2014, but let's table the discussion (at least) until that point. I know it will tempting if Dylan Axelrod gets rocked to say that Don Cooper can't work miracles...or if he pitches a great game, many would say Cooper took a pitcher with just average major league stuff and made him serviceable, so I'm agreeing to refrain one way or the other. How about we just never talk about Walker again? Walker leaving was a move that had to happen in order to see if a different point of view could salvage the careers of about half our starting lineup. I've said this a million times, but even if Walker was the greatest hitting coach ever, it was time for a change to see if something else could click with our hitters. I wish Walker well with the Braves.

QUOTE (Reddy @ May 6, 2012 -> 05:42 PM) but you're not getting Jesus Montero like you could have a couple days ago. The Pineda situation mirrors this PERFECTLY. A team that saw a flaw, unloaded the guy, and walked away looking like a genius. Perfect comparison -

QUOTE (Tex @ May 6, 2012 -> 05:26 PM) Of course not many people would like to think about how nice it will be if it works out. Probably would have been a lot easier to think about "how nice it will be if it works out" if they didn't already have Reed in the system though. I said this after the Santos trade, but who cares about the back-end of your bullpen if you're going through a rebuilding process? Now, if KW and Jerry decide to spend money on upgrading the starting rotation after the year, then it's no longer in the rebuilding phase and having a good closer is important (Captain Obvious, I know). -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 6, 2012 -> 04:37 PM) The air didnt seem to bother Kemp last season Sorry, my comment was sarcasm

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 6, 2012 -> 04:22 PM) according to ESPN, it is the air in California. lol Makes sense with Kemp struggling this year also

QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 6, 2012 -> 04:00 PM) Is the Floyd trade the last clear winning trade for KW? Was an excellent trade, but that was way back in 12/06. Quentin for Carter

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 6, 2012 -> 02:46 PM) Not at all Caulfield, it is accepting that you have to give something of value(Gio, Sweeney, etc) to get something of value(Thome, Swisher). Im sure you werent sitting there b****ing about being patient with Gio when Thome was hitting his game 163 homerun over the batters eye. Sometimes prospects pan out, sometimes they dont. If a prospect pans out 5 years after the trade is made, you dont hold that against the GM. Again, totally agree. The package we gave up for Swisher wasn't the bad part of the deal. It was the seemingly lack of scouting at his ability to play CF/leadoff and whether or not he'd get along with the core group of veterans in the clubhouse and Ozzie.

QUOTE (flavum @ May 6, 2012 -> 02:39 PM) Could be a long, rainy day in Cleveland tomorrow. Wouldn't be the worst thing for a day off for the team. Peavy, Sale and Danks could sure use more rest it seems.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 6, 2012 -> 03:38 PM) We gave up on Daniel Hudson after 3 major league starts at about the same age. You can't keep sacrificing the long-term in order to leverage short-term results or it will catch up to you, in the perfect storm of diminishing payroll, overpaid veterans in their 30's and not enough talent in the farm system simultaneously. Yes, Daniel Hudson was the one player who I think Kenny made too impulsive of a decision to trade. I feel like we'll never know the whole story of the EJax trade.
