Sox @ Orioles - Floyd vs. Millwood
QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 01:29 AM) I don't think their offense is that bad actually. There's some really good hitters in there (Roberts, Jones, Markakis, Scott) Would you trade our lineup for theirs?

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 01:29 AM) Rack 'em up! Hopefully that's the turning point the Sox/Gavin needed.

On the bright side, anyone shocked to see we're #2 in the AL in hitting with RISP?

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 01:26 AM) There is no reason on earth that we should not destroy the Orioles over the next 3 games. They are f***ing terrible and their pitching staff is terrible. These games need to be won as this race will remain tight as our manager insists on handicaping our team with a terrible DH. Our GM needs to do a better job Ozzie-proofing the lineup. No more sucky left handed scrappy hitters. He falls in love with them, and overuses them. With Rios fading fast, our lineup has gone back to being below average. There's just not a lot of power in our lineup besides PK and CQ, and with the vast number of outs we make on the bases, the execution needs to be perfect.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 12:25 AM) Really he doesn't, not to take anything away from him but the hitters are psyching themselves out. You know what's funny, I really feel like that Vizquel check swing on a pitcher over his head was the biggest play of the game so far. Millwood was on his way to walking the first two hitters, and the entire dynamic of the game changed after that.

Baltimore is hitting Gavin extremely well right now. Seems to be throwing a flat slider instead of his good big curve.

Sox @ Orioles - Floyd vs. Millwood
Millwood has absolutely nothing on these pitches.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 12:18 AM) Kotsay with another "unlucky" grounder to short. If only he was lucky and grounded it between some infielders To me, it seems like Kotsay is much better against sinker ball pitchers than high fastball pitchers. And jeez Alexei, STOP BUNTING!

Sox @ Orioles - Floyd vs. Millwood
Ugh, Kotsay chased ball 4. With this umpire, no reason to be helping out Millwood as much as we have.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 12:16 AM) There ya go Quentin! Made up for that run last inning when Markakis doubled on a ball that should have been caught. Um, didn't it hit high off the wall?

CQ with a homer to center! That a boy, he did a great job of working the count.

Sox @ Orioles - Floyd vs. Millwood
wow, don't know what was worse there, the camera angle or PK being blown away by 90 mph fastballs.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 12:06 AM) Floyd isn't fooling anyone. Quentin played that perfectly. He seems to be aiming it, which is causing everything to be up in the zone and not have as much velocity. Good news is Twins game is now tied.

Wow, you think we might want to play Wiggington in the hole a little more? Same single he had last night to score a run. Really terrible timing for the Sox to play such an energized Orioles team. However, I really think the Orioles lineup isn't bad at all, and you can't say the Sox have that much more talent on offense than they do.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 12:59 AM) Another GIDP for Rios. It might be time to start worrying about this. Might be? His swing is soooooo slow through the zone.
-
Sox @ Orioles - Floyd vs. Millwood
Hey, what new...a double play for Rios. That's 10 since the ASB. He's going all Jermaine Dye on us right now.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 12:55 AM) That's a good point...We don't hit as well on the road. I don't think getting Adam LaRoche would have changed a whole lot about that. Question though, we really didn't hear any rumors about LaRoche...I wonder if he was just unavailable? Yes, he was available, but Arizona was shocked at how little interest there was in him.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 11:49 PM) The offense has been more than adequate over the past 50 games. We'd have all loved to get a big bat, but I still feel pretty good if we can just get Q to give us some consistency and use the bats that we do have correctly. I don't trust this lineup at all on the road though. At home, I have all the confidence in them like they're the '27 Yankees.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 12:49 AM) I hate Ozzie's use of bunts, but he seems to have a knack for knowing when to put the hit and run on. That was the perfect situation for it. Vizquel literally had the entire right side of the infield open in that AB when Pierre was in motion. And man, this umpire has the smallest zone ever.
-
Sox @ Orioles - Floyd vs. Millwood
That 0-2 pitch seemed to be right down the plate. Gavin doesn't seem to have a very good fastball tonight, as he's a few mph below what he's usually at.

Sox @ Orioles - Floyd vs. Millwood
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 12:45 AM) They look a little better today. Vizquel killed us with his at bat in the first...Rios is hurting with a bad wrist....but that inning was just bad luck. I don't get why Ozzie has gone away from the hit-and-run. Seems he's been extremely reluctant to call that lately. In that Vizquel AB, no excuse not to put a play in motion.

Well, that's not something we've seen a lot of. Come on Sox, pick it up!

Ugh, nice swing by Beckham, but no results. This offense desperately needs some type of spark. BTW, anyone see that Laroche is destroying the ball again? Shocker, didn't see that coming.

Pretty nice approach there by AJP. This is the perfect pitcher for Beckham to line a shot down the RF line.
