Ted Lilly traded to Dodgers
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 03:07 PM) Which pitcher wouldn't? Well, sinker ballers would possibly lose their effectiveness pitching in a huge ballpark.

Sox scouted Jays and Orioles last night
I'd say no thanks to Downs based on what Toronto is asking for. With Thornton, and to a lesser extent Theets/Sale, another lefty in the pen is probably the last thing we need.

2010 Cubs Thread
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 02:05 PM) Do you honestly think if they swept the Cardinals that Hendry would reverse his course and go into buy mode instead of sell mode? This team had no intentions of reaching october baseball at all. They wouldn't have gone into buyer mode, but they would have tried to keep the team together going into August if they were able to get the lead down to 5 or 6.

Ted Lilly traded to Dodgers
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 12:45 PM) It's always suspicious to me when mainstream journalists are talking about a deal if some obscure person calls it a done deal. Not buying it yet. I am actually for the trade, though, pending on what's given up. Yeah, Lilly might struggle with the HR ball, but he doesn't walk people, has minimized hits and it still a very solid pitcher. He is better than Freddy and Hudson right now, too, this move would still improve out team. Maybe Nevin Griffin + Lucas Harrel could get the job done. One solid prospect, one close-to-ready prospect. With Lilly being such a hot commodity right now, you have to believe the Cubs have been offered significantly better packages than that.

Ted Lilly traded to Dodgers
Hopefully this is just a ploy by the Cubs to get the Tigers/Twins to offer up more

Mariners (Vargas 6-5, 2.94) @ White Sox (Buehrle 9-8, 3.96)
That a boy Jenks! Best stuff he's had all year. Greg, I GIVE HIM CREDIT!

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 03:57 AM) There's one thing for sure, there's going to be a meltdown from the entire board if Jenks blows this one... The fans will also boo him off the field

It would be very nice if Quentin could prove that the last few weeks prior to the ASB weren't a fluke. He's just not the same player since he got HBP in the first game in Minnesota after the break.

Can someone hack into the phones at US Celluar and make it so Ozzie can't call down to the bullpen?

Putz really should get the 9th

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 03:48 AM) Oh jesus christ. This sets up Bobby for the 9th. Oh yeah, and likely to face some lefties who can DESTROY fastballs.

QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 03:47 AM) Pet peeve. Pitch the guy when he's needed. The problem won't be tonight; it'll be if they want to use him tomorrow and therefore has to throw for the 3rd straight day -- completely needlessly. I see your argument, and it's up to the manager to know what each of his pitcher's need with regards to work/rest

Someone really needs to teach Rios how to slide.

Nice job by Rios there, and that's what you want to see from your 1-2

7/28 Games
QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 03:40 AM) Nice. I see Petricka only pitched 1.2 innings, do you know if that was planned or if he picked up an injury? Suspended game from previous night

Mariners (Vargas 6-5, 2.94) @ White Sox (Buehrle 9-8, 3.96)
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 02:31 AM) Another idiotic decision by Ozzie. He hadn't pitched in a while, there's no problem getting him an inning. If anything, he was overthrowing tonight.

Mariners (Vargas 6-5, 2.94) @ White Sox (Buehrle 9-8, 3.96)
Whew, got away with some poor command. Jones was very close to dropping that ball when taking it out of his glove.
-
Mariners (Vargas 6-5, 2.94) @ White Sox (Buehrle 9-8, 3.96)
Thornton's command just hasn't been the same since that night in KC where he came up lame.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 02:26 AM) Gordon needs to grow 4". I've never seen someone dive for more plays and come up empty-handed.

That was the best Santos has looked in a long time!

Ugh, we make a lot of needless outs on the bases.

Dominating inning for Santos there!

Got out of it thankfully, even though Seattle's been crushing him. Hopefully Ozzie pulls him soon.
