  1. Losing already...Boesch is an impressive young hitter.
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 12:10 AM) Well, maybe not. But if you factor in his defense in center as well as his base stealing, he's probably not as far below them as you'd think he is... Um, Miguel Cabrera has insane range. What other first baseman can go get a routine grounder hit to the second baseman?
  3. ESPN reported today that Izzo turned down an offer from the Bulls already this offseason.
  4. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 12:05 AM) Well, he's basically one of the most valuable players in baseball right now. I expected him to be an All-Star caliber player. Right now he is on par with the MVP candidates (except for the fact that we suck). He's on par with Morneau and Cabrera? Not being an ass, just felt like he's in the second tier right now and those two guys are the king of kings.
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 10:33 PM) Talk about a guy getting no pub. A solid .817 OPS. He's also played a pretty good 1B going by the metrics. I have no idea how anybody hits in that park. BTW, two more highly ranked guys called up today. Tabata for the Pirates, and Arrieta for the Orioles.
  6. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 11:39 PM) Haters are gonna hate. I don't know how anybody could look at his stuff and say to themselves (well it was just the Pirates). I don't mind the hype if it's warranted. It was warranted with Lebron. And it's certainly warranted with Strasburg. He's here and he's here to stay. Agreed...he's a can't-miss performer right now.
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 11:42 PM) What guys are great to have around when the team blows? JAVY VAZQUEZ and Kaz Tadano
  8. QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 10:03 PM) Buster Posey Ike Davis Did you see Ike's walkoff yesterday? Holy cow, he destroyed that!
  9. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 09:02 PM) Too bad he's gonna be catching TD's for the Seahawks! Go 'Hawks!!! And getting arrested
  10. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 09:36 PM) Tyler Flowers will make everyone miss AJ. I'd re-sign AJ and try to con some team into trading for Flowers. I'm not a fan of Flowers, but I feel like AJP went from underrated to overrated on this board. He really doesn't do anything good these days. Flowers will strike out a ton, but he'll put up possibly a better OBP than AJP and a higher slugging. Those are two things this team needs...not just a bunch of 2 out, no on singles. Flowers isn't great defensively, but neither is AJP. What's the worst that's going to happen, teams will continue to run at will against the Sox?
  11. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 09:14 PM) Not in the lineup today... Probably not a big deal, as we have a day game tomorrow.
  12. I think he'll be traded after the Cubs game on Sunday as well, and the return will be better than we think cause we'll pay a lot of his remaining deal to cash-starved but prospect-rich Texas.
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 07:00 PM) Because of how many sliders he has thrown? Give me a break. The guy will be back to what he was in no time. He proved in a few starts last season that he can pitch in the AL and has run into mechanical issues after recovering fully from an injury and time off. Trading him would be stupid on our part, and writing him off would be stupid on everyone else's part. I hope you're right, and I'm wrong...we're screwed if he doesn't improve. With that said, the time for excuses with him has to be over.
  14. QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 07:12 PM) Might be true if he didn't have a body of work that suggests he'll snap back. Plus, when you look at his stuff... pitches, speed, movement... There aren't any screaming red flags. I think the injury last year has thrown his mechanics enough that it's affected his command. And eventually he'll get back on track. His slider is nowhere near the pitch it was in the past. That's the biggest difference. He used to get a ton of swings and misses on that pitch. His fastball is about what it used to be.
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 05:54 PM) Scouts are smarter than someone wanting to write him off after 2 bad months and some mechanical issues. But what if they don't think it's mechanical? Remember the concerns that Ozzie got frustrated about relating to Peavy during ST. I said at the time, and then a few weeks ago, but scouts are extremely concerned about Peavy's health. Not that there's something necessarily wrong, but more that he's just thrown so many sliders and pitched a lot of innings during his Major League career that he's more like a 34-35 year old in pitching years.
  16. Awesome response by Rios...Peavy could learn a lot from him.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 03:37 PM) Kotsay has 6 HR on the year. Vizquel has markedly positive UZR numbers at 3b and SS, negative numbers at 2b but he's only getting time there because our starting 2b is sucking royally. Kotsay and Vizquel have been adequate at their job. Every time anyone blames this season on Kotsay or Vizquel, God Kills a Kitten. Omar Vizquel would be fine if he was a defensive replacement, but he's getting way too many ABs. As for Kotsay, he has 6 homers, and a whole bunch of nothing else.
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 03:31 PM) all KW, and all have performed successfully at some point for the Sox. Oz: Juan Pierre rotating DH=no power bat that can only hit Those alone are fireable. Mark Kotsay Omar Vizquel
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 04:27 PM) Its not, and if you read the article in the Trib today about this, and read Ozzie's quotes, you'll see that Ozzie handled it quite well. He wasn't angry, he wasn't upset with the Sox, etc. T-Bolt brought this up in the FS forum too, and its not reality. The bigger issue is that Oney is basically calling out Ozzie's immediate boss and ripping on KW Jr.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 04:27 PM) There's a difference in saying that Ozzie should be fired because its his job to get his players performing and he's failing at that job and saying Ozzie should be fired for this year's roster decisions, when it hasn't been the roster decisions that have hurt us this year. Fair enough....personally, he should be fired because there's not one thing he's good at as a manager anymore. I think he used to be able to motivate veteran players, but it seems like the Ozzie act has gotten old. He could probably go to a younger team like the Marlins and do a great job with them...that is, if he's willing to deal with rookies, etc. I truly do hope that when Ozzie leaves, he goes out with class and we don't see the crap in the media we see far too often with our ex players.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 04:24 PM) Out of these people, which one was an Ozzie roster decision? AJ Pierzynski Gordon Beckham Carlos Quentin Jake Peavy Gavin Floyd Mark Buehrle Bobby Jenks So you're saying a manager has never been fired because his players underperformed for him?
  22. While I think Cowley sucks at his job, he's not the only reporter who has said there's bad blood between Ozzie and KW right now.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 04:39 AM) OK, then simply fire KW for the nepotism shown when his son, the stiff, was chosen in eighth round. Kid sucks, nobody wanted him. Sox take him in 8th round. Bye bye Kenny for nepotism. Well, and the money saved by taking KW Jr. also went to Jordan Danks, I believe.
  24. Ozzie, his family has been nothing but disrespectful to an organization that provided them with so much. I feel bad for Ozney getting involved in this, as he seems to be the classiest person in the family.
