  1. Alex Rios (SO FAR). That's for my buddy jphat. But yeah, Lillibridge and Paniagua are the worst offensive and pitching performers this decade.
  2. At this point, I absolutely don't want the Sox to acquire AGon. It would cost way too much with regards to prospects (our farm is thin enough as it is), and then he'd get a monster deal after two seasons. Let Boston get him...they have the money and prospects to make it happen and not have to turn the organization upside-down.
  3. QUOTE (GREEDY @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 02:38 AM) Brace yourself, there will be all kinds of old white men yelling at the TV this season: "Turn that damn hat straight". And we have the best post of this thread!!
  4. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 02:12 AM) I don't see us getting AGon without giving up PK in some weird three way situation. You say that like it's a bad thing.
  5. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 02:19 AM) Is Ozzie really willing to live with a lineup like that? He has slappy leading off now. I guarantee we lead the AL in sac bunts this season.
  6. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 12:54 AM) I find it bizarre that with each move the Sox make, they get a little better, and yet the posts in PHT get more and more over-the-top mad. I'd think it would be the reverse. Weird. We do still need one more bat upgrade, at DH or elsewhere, though. And a backup C, though I think we have options in house for that which I'd be fine with. What happens with that extra bat, though, I think will give us the best picture of the offseason overall. Go back and look at the reaction to the trade before KW/Ozzie said they wanted to rotate DHs and then after. It's when our GM and Manager say we're done making moves to improve our offense is when people start to get worried (besides jphat, who just hates Rios anyways).
  7. QUOTE (beckham15 @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 01:01 AM) your crazy dude scotty pods carried this team on his back for parts of last year pierre had just as many steals as him in less action overall i think we dont lose anything by signing him and i think it will turn out to be a good move for us overall Pods was great last year...he was underrated last year after being overrated during his first tenure here.
  8. I can't believe I failed to mention this earlier, and I put it in the other thread, but Terry Boers said today that there's no way Thome is back with the Sox next year. He's generally in the know with Sox personnel issue.
  9. Forgot to mention earlier that according to Terry Boers' "guy" with the Sox, the Sox want nothing to do with Thome being back in 2010.
  10. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 12:28 AM) Pierre sucks. This trade sucks. The way the Sox have spent their money sucks. Ozzie's rotation of crappy players for a DH sucks. This whole offseason sucks. We're not a National League ballclub and we do not play in a pitcher's paradise. The trade is fine as long as there's another move coming.
  11. Don't get me wrong, if we're just going to go with Kotsay/Jones at DH, then by all means, sign Thome for 2 million dollars.
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 12:14 AM) Then why not sign Thome for a third or a half of the price? Because he's not Godzilla? Matsui hit .282 against LHP and .271 against RHP last season. Thome hit .209 against LHP and .262 against RHP last season. Matsui also hit 50 points higher with RISP, and doesn't seem to injure himself every time he runs out a ground ball.
  13. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 11:09 PM) Nothing wrong with a rotating DH to keep guys fresh, just make sure we are talking about starting caliber players being a part of this combo. The Angels have excelled with this approach over the years, but they also aren't running a bunch of s*** out there either. That's a great point. It's like when teams try to go Closer-by-committee. That works great when you have the Nasty Boys and have talented performers. It doesn't work so good when you have a bunch of mediocre players in the committee.
  14. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 11:01 PM) Didn't he get 6.5 million? sorry, I meant 6.5 million
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 10:52 PM) Even if that were to happen, would you rather go out and sign Vlad or Matsui and not have the flexibility we have now with Jones/Pierre/Vizquel and Putz? Because signing one of the few players available would have meant none of these other moves. Matsui got 3.5 millioin, so you're basically talking not having Jones/Pierre/Omar. I would have much rather the Sox had Matsui and Putz. I don't even dislike Pierre.
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 11:41 PM) They'll sign Thome before they go with Kotsay at DH. Jesus Christ. We're just reacting to what Ozzie's saying. I don't think what he's saying is accurate, as KW isn't that dumb. But when you start getting people rationalizing that Kotsay/Jones could work as a DH tandem, that's when comments need to be made.
  17. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 10:37 PM) Hey, at least we have Alex Rios in CF. At this point, I'd rather have your boy Nix at DH than a combo of Kotsay/Jones.
  18. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 10:35 PM) You're certainly banking a lot on two aging veterans, that's for sure. However, the possibility of them producing isn't out of the question. What's Kotsay going to produce? Even if he overachieves, you're looking at probably .275 and 15 homers. Not exactly a lot of thump from your DH.
  19. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 10:28 PM) When your manager has a National League mentality? (how many times have you heard Ozzie described in this manner?) When you don't plan on acquiring a 'true dh' and instead will play said bench players everyday in lieu of a 'true dh'. I love when I have you on my side of the argument.
  20. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 11:22 PM) I wouldn't say that. We strengthened our bench, most likely made late inning relief better, and came up with a marginal leadoff man. You can do a lot worse. It's the American League, since when is the bench really that important? I would have rather the 3.5 million we used on Kotsay/Jones/Vizquel gone towards getting a DH if the money is really that tight.
  21. Well, I just pray that Ozzie's not the one making decisions about our personnel. I said this earlier today, but if Pierre's the last impact player we add, this offseason has been an absolute disaster.
  22. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 09:41 PM) Flowers or Mike Redmond will be the guy. Ozzie loves Redmond and I think they will ultimately go that route. Redmond is very good defensively and is very familiar with the division. Can he be a back-up first baseman also?
  23. Isn't Boston in great shape to get Gonzalez now since they signed Lackey and Cameron?
  24. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 09:02 PM) 3. A .663 OPS last season 4. Huge concerns about what caused his huge dropoff in production and freak injuries
