  1. Me thinks we're going to see Wise in CF tomorrow and Sunday. Hopefully CQ gets back in 2 weeks so we don't have to see either.
  2. It's strange..Getz was on fire, and now all of a sudden he's in a 1-21 slump. PK is definitely keeping this infield afloat this year.
  3. The crazy thing is that coming into this game, everyone knows the Cubs have 3 good hitters right now: Lee, Soto, and Fox. They have all 6 of their hits. If we can shut them down the rest of this series, we should be in good shape.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 10:40 PM) Jose hasn't thrown a decent splitter since his back problem. He also hasn't gotten anything in the lower half of the zone. He is still hurting. What happened with the back injury? I saw you guys mention it.
  5. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 10:37 PM) Ha, there it is. No, no shot at a DP on PK's error. There what is? Am I supposed to be happy about this? I didn't say anything bad, but giving up a 3 run homer immediately after an error would get someone like Gavin or Garland booed off of this site.
  6. QUOTE (G&T @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 10:36 PM) Len says Soto is playing more relaxed after saying he tested positive for weed. He'll play even better once everyone knows he's a huge HGH user.
  7. Wow, what a meltdown. Would PK have turned two on Fontenot's? I can't believe we just let Panama Red beat us.
  8. Ugh, we make a lot of errors at the end of a game it seems.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 10:26 PM) Podsednik steals 2nd and takes the bat out of Thome's hands. That's just stupid. Have we even tried a hit-and-run with Alexei up and Pods on?
  10. We need our 3-4-5 to keep producing right now. We have a pretty bad 6-9 today against this type of pitcher.
  11. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 09:54 PM) When are we going to bunt to test slow-ass Jake Fox at third. Pods, Alexei, Getz, Anderson and Beck should all be thinking about that. This is the same team that didn't bunt against Dontrelle when he was on one leg.
  12. You can't throw Fox a fastball there. Cubs and their damn offseason program for their minor leaguers.
  13. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 08:18 PM) I want Bacon to be at 2b for the long term. You can get power from your corners pretty easily, but a power+average combo at 2nd base is hard to come by (Utley types) and I think putting what would end up being an average power hitter at 3b is a waste. Couldn't agree more
  14. Yikes, 5 lefties in their lineup. Let's hope Jose has a good forkball.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 06:28 PM) I keep wondering whether we'll be able to keep Podsednik as a stolen base coach after his legs finally give out. He's not that fast any more and it kills him on the basepaths this year, but he knows when to run and he has the technique down pat. He'd be an ideal guy to have working with people who have speed but need to develop stolen base skill (Owens, Mitchell, perhaps D2: the Mighty Danks) Not to turn this into our weekly coach bashing thread, but as long as it's not who is currently teaching players on the Sox, that would be fine. We are giving up way too many outs with our predictable base running (2 out and runner on 1st).
  16. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 05:16 PM) Simply put, we got a steal. I know I was hesitant to draft him, then when we did, I was disappointed. I heard some JO comparisons and that made me dislike him, but after watching him, there is no comparison. Mitchell has got great power, he hits the ball far on weak swings. He just is jacked with strong, quick wrists. His speed is better than Owens and he walks a ton. He can be a dynamic player for the Sox. The Crawford comparisons are good, but he can be better than Carl. Both have similar speed, but Mitchell should be able to hit for way more power than CC and walk a ton more. I love the pick now after actually seeing him play. I really think he can be a 30/30 guy in his prime who also has a +.400 OBP. He seems to have a great attitude and seems like a good clubhouse guy, just based off the jokes he told during the CWS. He also is not even that raw, I can't imagine what he will be like in three years after devoting it all to baseball. I would have picked him in the top ten in this draft after seeing him play. He is that good. I don't think he has 30 home run power. If he can get up to 15 homers, that would be a real plus. Remember that with a wooden bat, he'll likely struggle hitting opposite field homers. I didn't see him try to bunt during the CWS, and he actually seemed to not want to steal when he got on.
  17. I actually really like Hopper. He's an absolutely fantastic bunter. He struggled last year cause I believe he blew out his elbow.
  18. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 06:38 PM) You would think he would match up well against the softer throwing Wells too... Wells isn't exactly Jim Parque. I've seen him get his fastball up to 94 mph this year. With his command, he'd have no problem throwing 92 mph past Fields above the belt. I'm happy Fields isn't playing, and shockingly wish Wise was playing for Anderson.
  19. That 5% = seeing if Jim Thome suffers a serious injury
  20. Some observations about Mitchell: - he's not nearly as much of a slap hitter as I had feared. He has a compact swing and gets good lift on the ball. - his contact rate was pretty good. With all of his strike outs, I thought he'd be a free swinger who couldn't recognize offspeed pitches. He must have K'd looking an awful lot. - didn't see enough of his defense to make any judgments. - he has a swagger to him that you love to see. I guarantee that if he was picked by someone else, there would have been people on here wishing we would have picked him. - the last two years of the CWS have been awesome for us Sox fans. Basically the two biggest stars of the past two years have been Beckham and Mitchell.
  21. If my wife has a baby in 9 months, it's all your fault!
  22. You have to wonder where Mitchell would be picked if the draft was this week? He seems to be impressing a lot of people.
  23. Yay! Nice to see them finally lose again.
