  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2009 -> 07:42 PM) And the problem with Gathright is that he does nothing well, but run. He sucks. No one ever said he's a superstar. He has one tool, and at least it's a legitimate tool. The needs of an NL team off the bench are a hell of a lot different than that of an AL team, as you know (due to significantly more PH opportunities in the NL). Also, Piniella doesn't search for ways to get him at bats at least. If Gathright was on the Sox (and many of us were praying we wouldn't sign him when he was non-tendered), he would have had probably 25 at bats by now.
  2. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 3, 2009 -> 07:26 PM) Sox hitters in 2009: vs LHP as RHB: .237/.375/.373/.748 in 145 PA vs LHP as LHB: .400/.450/.629/1.079 in only 41 PA Just remember: ALWAYS play the match up. There isn't a left hand hitter alive who can handle a lefty starter. I wonder what Ozzie would do if he had a young Adrian Gonzalez or Chase Utley. Yet he pitches to Blalock with the open base last night!!
  3. If we used this lineup during ST, we'd be fined for not having enough regulars in it.
  4. Any chance we can get a rain out tonight? KW desperately has to demote Lillibridge and get another righty outfielder up with the big league squad. Realistically, that should be the easiest thing to find in the minors.
  5. I hate Ozzie Guillen so much. His handling of Getz is going to drive this board crazy, and to not play Thome against a LHP he's handled well is just stupid! I can't believe Lillibridge continues to find a way into the lineup. Just trade Jenks now.
  6. Gload dropped a fly ball in RF prior to that slam. That's the 6th dropped fly ball against the Cubs this year, and it hasn't even been that windy at Wrigley so far.
  7. Did Zambrano get hurt on his bunt? This Marlins team will not finish above .500, I guarantee it.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2009 -> 06:04 PM) To a minor league contract. The guy sucks, and has only one aspect to his game. Speed. He is the same guy who we just ran out of town, sorry just because he has a baby hear on his chest, I am not about to turn him into something he isn't. The problem with Owens is he didn't know how to use his "speed". I'm still not convinced that recent injuries left Owens with anything other than good, but not great speed.
  9. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 3, 2009 -> 06:00 PM) he's not even that with the Cubs, he just eats a roster space. This week they pinch ran Zambrano instead of him. They did that cause of the injury issues, and wanted to keep at least one more position player on the bench. None of us is saying Gathright is an amazing player, but he's definitely a significantly more athletic player than Owens with better base running skills due to his electric speed. He was voted the fastest player in the majors by his peers I believe 3 straight seasons.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2009 -> 05:50 PM) That's why he couldn't get a job with the Royals, or a major league offer from anyone during spring training. The dude is a glorified pinch runner. We just had one of them. Gathright got signed pretty quickly during the offseason (mid December), IIRC. To compare Owens speed to Gathright is just silly.
  11. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ May 3, 2009 -> 05:32 PM) It seems like the last couple years the Cubs have always found a way to miss the other team's ace. Of course they play the Marlins and miss Josh Johnson, last year they never saw Jair Jurrjens against Atlanta. Do they get Lincecum this week? Supposed to get Lincecum...watch it rain on Tuesday. They've missed Volquez the last 4 times they faced the Reds. Meanwhile, the Sox are destined to face the other team's ace 90 pct of the time it seems.
  12. Cubs were supposed to face Oswalt on Thursday, but now they'll be facing Russ Ortiz....yay!
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2009 -> 04:19 PM) JOey Gathright=Jerry Owens. Except he's actually legitimately fast.
  14. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 3, 2009 -> 05:21 AM) But Josh Fields is just too awesome in the two hole to sit. 9 games in a row without an extra base hit.
  15. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 3, 2009 -> 05:19 AM) Greink will be tough, but Galarraga BABIP is due to blow up in his face sometime soon. Maybe we'll actually play as many lefties as possible against him this game. Betemit better get some playing time this coming week with all the righties we'll face.
  16. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 3, 2009 -> 04:15 AM) The tell tale sign in this series is scoring 1 run off of the starters for Texas. This team really needs to become more consistent on offense. The guy last night shut them out for 5 innings and they were shut out essentailly for 5 again tonight. Just see the awesome stats Kalapse posted about how much we've struggled against starting pitching this season. Should be fun to face Greinke and Galarraga next week.
  17. QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ May 3, 2009 -> 05:14 AM) Miles sucks and Gathright cant hit. But yeah Hoffpauir is pretty solid except his defense is brutal. Miles hit over .300 in a lot of at bats last season. To say he sucks would be false, in my opinion.
  18. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 3, 2009 -> 04:08 AM) Yes, but Lou doesn't use them well. Correct me if i'm wrong, but while Hill's been hitting well, Lou sat him for about two weeks straight last week. Gathright has become a bondafide pinch runner, and while Hoffpauir hits, he can't do much else. They've had so many injuries this year, they haven't been able to utilize their bench in their appropriate roles.
  19. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 3, 2009 -> 04:12 AM) Do you have a low 90's straight fastball? Are you looking for a few easy outs and a nice, cooling breeze? Well the very bottom and top of the White Sox lineup is just what you're looking for! If you want to catch a foul ball, a seat down the LF line will be a prime spot with all of Pods pathetic flares hit in that direction.
  20. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 3, 2009 -> 04:11 AM) Ugh. What a bulls*** night all the way around for the Sox. Another year where we're at a disadvantage every game that is started by our 5th starter.
  21. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 3, 2009 -> 04:07 AM) Ick, Pods really can't catch up to the heat. His bat speed is all but gone. Yep, it's pretty pathetic. Hawk's blowing of his infield single is Jerry Johnson-esque from "Little Big League". One little dribbler for a hit, and everyone goes nuts. It's not going to be fun watching him get 400 ABs this year. The potential really is there for this season to be like 2007 if Floyd can't get it going and the offense stays subpar.
  22. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 3, 2009 -> 04:05 AM) Send his ass to Winston Salem and tell him to hit everything on the ground, every time he hits one in the air he does twenty pushups. There's no reason for Brent LillyBridge to ever hit another flyball for the remainder of his career, he weighs 124 pounds, groundballs, bunts and line drives or he can find a new team. The problem is he strikes out at the rate a power hitting prospect would. It's really amazing how terrible he is. Watching him hit this year, you would have thought he would have hit .220 in the minors last year.
  23. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 3, 2009 -> 03:58 AM) I doubt JD plays tomorrow so either we'll see Alexei in the outfield or we're looking at a Quentin-LillyBridge-Podsednik outfield for the rubber match. No way we'll see Alexei in CF. I'm ok with that outfield as long as it's only for a few days. We just need to survive May with all these injuries and struggling players.
