glad to see those statistical predictions of Andruw's demise after so many games played seem to be incorrect.

 

sox still seem to live and die by the long ball, except now we have fewer long ball hitters.

 

 

Jones should be the full - time DH from here on in. He's one of the only players in the Sox's lineup who's actually hitting well, and giving it some much needed pop.

 

Pretty decent outing from Floyd, deserved better, but it fell apart for him in the 7th.

 

Still a win is a win, and a much needed one at that.

Way to have a birthday party, Mr. Andruw Jones. Let's hope he's really back for the sake of our offense. Everything's clicking now, got the hanging slider up in his eyes after battling his behind off.

 

The Mariners' announcers (who are obviously familiar with Matt) were just GUSHING about his performance. Said that was by far the best they've ever seen him pitch.

 

I don't think ANYONE can complain about his performance versus Thome. It's the plethora of at-bats going to Kotsay and Vizquel that are the real issue.

 

Gavin pitched pretty well after the first inning or so, had a nice string of 9+ batters retired and his overall game line sucks because of Putz. We now have to seriously look at promoting Santos over Putz...although Ozzie might give him another couple of chances, or put Pena in front of Santos, too.

 

It's coming, just like when Jenks showed up in 2005 out of nowhere. Fear the Sergio.

 

 

By the way,

 

The 2005 and 2008 bullpens, overall...were still better than this White Sox pen.

 

Thornton is the most dominant set-up guy we've ever had in a White Sox uniform...but the 7th and 8th innings were automatic in those years (when Linebrink was healthy...the version with Dotel in the 8th, not so good).

 

Santos is the big wild card. If he can emerge like Jenks in 2005, that changes the whole composition of the pen.

 

Pena's getting better and better, there's renewed hope for Liney...but you have to be concerned about the lack of life on Putz's stuff. It might be a case of needing a full year to be 100% healthy. Still, for what we're paying him, it's not a bad deal at all IMO. And he becomes a valuable trade chip if we can't catch the Twins, along with Andruw Jones.
