  1. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 02:23 AM) At this point, $11M redistributed may have a much more positive impact on our record in '09 than JD would have with this team as currently constructed. Our rotation is a black hole 4-5 and there's virtually no minor league depth outside of rushing Poreda. I completely buy Kenny's comments about being over budget: look at the offseason so far, and there are very good players out there who look to be hoping to get a yearly salary that is HALF of what they expected this time last year. Ben Sheets, Adam Dunn, Bobby Abreu, Jon Garland, Derek Lowe, Oliver Perez... these guys shouldn't be looking for work almost halfway through January. If you save that money, you're more likely looking at guys like Odalis Perez. The Sox won't sign Sheets, Lowe, or Perez, and Dunn makes no sense for the Sox.
  2. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 02:18 AM) How could you ever confuse two players? For some reason Jerry Owens always gets compared to players that are much better than him. The only speedy CFers in baseball that I can think of off the top of my head who are worse than Jerry Owens are Corey Patterson and Joey Gathright. Gathright's a much better player than Owens. Willits isn't young, and with the pitching staff we have this coming season, we're going to need to score as many runs as possible. I don't think it matters though, as the Angels never trade.
  3. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 02:15 AM) Willits is so much better of a ball player then Owens, it really isn't close. Willits actually knows what he's doing on a baseball field, and plays really good D. Owens is actually one of the worst baseball players I have seen in the past couple of years, right up there with Andy Gonzalez. If it costs us Dye, then just keep what we already have.
  4. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 01:10 AM) At this point I'd say screw Figgins. If the Angels would take on Dye's entire salary then I'd rather ask for Reggie Willits and prospects, then spread the money around given all the bargains that are starting to pop up. With that $11 mil saved we could add some pitching and Willits could be the lead off guy. If we were interested, that $11M might be able to get us Ben Sheets, or maybe Garland at $8M + Wolf, Pedro, Freddy, or some other guaranteed 5th starter or reclamation project with upside for about $3M. Ah yes, Willits name brought up again. I'd rather have Jerry Owens than Willits...and that's saying a lot.
  5. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jan 12, 2009 -> 03:46 AM) Well, the greatest team in history has lost twice now and most of the UNC fans have jumped overboard. Fun stuff. Ty Lawson was horrible tonight. Too many turnovers in the first half, and Teague absolutely abused him.
  6. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jan 11, 2009 -> 06:15 PM) Freddie Garcia is a battler and also is a pitchr now and not simply a thrower. Obviously health is the issue, but a non-guaranteed contract is a pretty safe thing IMO It's not safe though due to the fact that as long as Garcia is hitting 80 mph on the gun, I can't see Ozzie not putting him out on the mound come April. If we're rebuilding this year and going young at about 5 positions, then you might as well just go all out with it instead of trying to patch is up with mediocre older options.
  7. Who's your All-American team so far? Here's mine: pg- S. Curry sg- M. Harris c- D. Blair sf- J. Harden pf- B. Griffin Second team would be Lawson, McNeal, Jordan Hill, Singler, Harangody Third team would be Collison, Jerrells, Monroe, Evan Turner, and Hansbrough
  8. Rock said this rumor would come out...and that is was bogus.
  9. QUOTE (joeynach @ Jan 6, 2009 -> 01:15 AM) pretty freaking stupid. The sox stadium is gonna look pathetic if they go into the season with a knocked down ramp and a half constructed new entrance in place. Wait, we're going to have people going to the games in this economy?
  10. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jan 6, 2009 -> 04:29 AM) Anybody see the Billy Ray Cyrus mullet on that Texas player they showed on the sideline? That was fantastic. Maybe the highlight of the bowl season so far.
  11. QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Jan 6, 2009 -> 01:09 AM) That's why you are Mr. Pessimism! Nothing KW has said leads me to believe he will sign him. So I think it is very possible. Anyone that remembers me from the Cubs/Dbacks series 2 years ago knows how much I love Lyon. However, I don't believe these "XM radio" reports. No offense to the person who started this thread.
  12. I'm going to go ahead and call BS on this report.
  13. This will be an interesting dynamic, as a lot of former Cubs players have claimed that Wrigley hosts some of the most racist fans in the majors (especially in the bleachers).

QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Jan 5, 2009 -> 02:40 AM) Looks like the girl from Cloverfield. It is...she's also the spanish speaking young girl from Kindergarten Cop.
  15. QUOTE (Jimmywins1 @ Jan 4, 2009 -> 09:57 PM) Maybe the Sox are considering moving Gordon Beckham to CF? That would be beyond dumb, as one of the pluses with Slayer is the offense he provides as a middle infielder.
  16. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 4, 2009 -> 07:56 PM) Good game for Illinois, even though they lost. I really thought they played well until about half way through the 2nd half. Where was Davis today? Still too many errant jump shots, but they continue to show me that instead of cowering from adversity like last year, they play through it. They took 3 or 4 big punches in the 2nd half and responded. They just couldn't respond to the last one. Michigan looks like a much improved team, but until they learn to get the ball inside they're going to be a one and done. You live and die by the 3, which is why they can win big games but lose bad games. Still though, if you're a Michigan fan you have to be excited. 1 out of 2 on the road to start the conference season is great, especially when they started AT Purdue and AT Michigan with little rest. Manny Harris, in my opinion, has been the 4th best player in the country this season after Griffin, Curry, and Harden.
  17. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jan 4, 2009 -> 06:31 PM) Some good Big Ten basketball being played right now. Illinois/Michigan has been a great game thus far. Agreed, it's been a very entertaining game. It's amazing how much better coached Michigan is under this regime compared to their previous one. It gives me hope for when GT finally cans Hewitt.
  18. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 3, 2009 -> 09:52 PM) In a battle of who can get the least out of his talent, Mark Gottfried and Alabama is giving Ga Tech a beatdown. Hewitt trying to prove he really is second to none. Yep, wait until the superior coaching battle on Tuesday between Hewitt and Felton. Unfortunately, from what I've been told, Hewitt will be given one more season after this.
  19. Luke Harangody is the biggest whiner in college basketball.
  20. The Orioles aren't going to trade Roberts and more in order to get Floyd.
  21. Would fit with KW getting guys he's had his eyes on a few years too late. However, I think it would be interesting....I'd rather have him in CF than Owens.
  22. This doesn't seem to be legit, but rather speculation from Baltimore's side about the type of player they should pursue for Roberts. No reason to get worked up over it.
  23. No reason to get upset about this yet, as KW and Ozzie would never put such a pathetic team on the field come opening day. Both of them are too competitive to have a roster that has little chance to compete.
  24. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 1, 2009 -> 10:39 PM) Sure, why the hell not? This offseason couldn't possibly suck any worse than it already has, so this can't hurt.
  25. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 31, 2008 -> 05:15 PM) The Cubs just signed Aaron Miles.. and of course the Peavy rumors start up again. Bradley is an asshole and a maniac, but he's a hell of an offensive player who gives them exactly what they need from a lefty hitter.
