  1. QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 08:07 PM) Just like Vernon Wells losing all his power...oh wait. Didn't he lose his power before that?
  2. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 09:04 PM) Quentin will be fine long term, I'm not worried about that. Wrist injuries are a lot worse on basketball players than baseball players generally. But in the meantime, as one of my best friends said today, "we're f***ed". I never said we're f***ed I will say this...the more time passes, the more I appreciate 2005.
  3. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 07:59 PM) Like I said earlier this type of injury could kill Quentin's power and turn him into a doubles hitter, after a season in which he performs horribly after trying to hit home runs, he'd probably have to try to be a contact hitter. That really sucks. There is a great possibility that this year will turn out to be the best of his career. Look at Derrek Lee from the other side of town: when he hurt his wrist, his power disappeared. This is a repost, but I'm throwing it out there again. The more I hear about the injury, the less concerned I am about this type of thing happening to Quentin. Lee was always a doubles hitter, and besides for that one season, he was never a prodigious home run hitter.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 07:39 PM) I disagree completely. How can having one of the best hitters league be out of the lineup make the games more enjoyable to watch? Now we are considerably weakened. Fans in Minnesota have to be celebrating wildly. This is a huge loss and no way will he be back this season. A broken wrist? They should say he's gone for the year. The odds of us winning now are s***. This sucks. The Twins have overcome injuries to a good right fielder and one of the best set-up men in the league. I doubt the Twins fans are too enthusiastic after the craptacular baseball they've played recently.
  5. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 08:31 PM) Good stuff as always ptac. It's basically confirmed by multiple sources this has nothing to do with a HBP, rather it falls on something Quentin did to himself. Maybe Zambrano will fracture his penis by his continuous cup adjustment? Hopefully this is a lesson for CQ. All I know is we'll have the most intense cheerleader in history.
  6. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 07:29 PM) It actually makes the games more enjoyable to watch now. (ok i just read that and it sounds stupid. I just mean I won't get as upset as I would if CQ were healthy) Nobody expects to to play all that wekk when you lose your MVP so the guys can just go out and play loose and if they lose, it sucks, but not much you can do about losing your best hitter. If we win, makes it all the more sweet. Completely agree with you....it's like we have nothing to lose, as we have the built-in excuse.
  7. QUOTE (ptatc @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 07:29 PM) This injury sounds like a scaphoid fracture. The scaphoid is a small bone in the wrist at the base of the thumb. The reason they need to immobilize a small fracture is that the bone is peanut shaped and the blood vessel runs through the narrow protion. If it is not taken care of the lower part of the bone can die from a lack of blood. This will cause a decrease in the motion at the wrist which is what you DO NOT want to happen. These fracture are typically not seen on X-rays as they are too small. Usually MR or CT scans are needed. If this is the case, they will pin the bone to insure stability for 1-2 weeks then be in a cast or splint for 4-8 weeks to get a good callous for bone healing. i don't know if in fact this is the injury but by the description from reading here, that is the most logical injury Also, it was not from a HBP. This is his right wrist. He gets hit almost exclusively on the left arm, where his previous forearm injury was. It is very conceivable that he threw his bat and tried to catch it while the bat hit the wrist at the base of the thumb. Long-term prognosis is?
  8. QUOTE (shipps @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 07:18 PM) Your switchin it up on us in one of the bleakest moments of the season.huh I'm generally pretty neutral outside of the game threads.
  9. QUOTE (joeynach @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 07:15 PM) WORST NEWS OF THE YEAR!! Could have been an ACL injury that would make him worthless for next season as well.
  10. It's so weird, as I'm much more concerned about Quentin's long-term health compared to what he would have provided this last month. For some reason, I think we'll be fine on offense as long as we're at the Cell, and that another lefty bat in the lineup will benefit us.
  11. QUOTE (spiffalicious @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 06:58 PM) The score just said he is having surgery Monday to put a pin in his wrist. Ouch, not good. Did they say how long the recovery time is?
  12. Looks like I might have to name my first boy "Jerry" or "Owen".
  13. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 07:39 PM) Any word on how severe it is? A break can be anything from a slight fracture to shattered As someone mentioned earlier, it seems unlikely to be an extremely serious injury due to him being able to swing a bat and throw a ball for 2 weeks after it.
  14. BTW, how do someone have a brokern wrist?
  15. QUOTE (hawksox13 @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 06:29 PM) Didn't Soriano have the same injury and recover in six weeks? If that's the case, he'd be back in five more weeks. So around October 5-10th he could be back. That would be for what, the ALCS? Sorry, just thinking best case here. That's not too likely at this point. I thought Soriano's was his hand.
  16. Broken bone for Quentin. Hopefully he's fine in 2 months. At least he got to 100 RBI.
  17. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 05:03 PM) well, know this - it obviously wasn't picked up on x-ray, which means the fracture must be slight if it is indeed a fracture. They could only see it on MRI. And it appears that he was able to swing a bat and throw a ball with the injury, so it could be a 4-6 week thing where he stabilizes it in a cast. Well said
  18. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 06:01 PM) If Quentin's wrist is indeed broken, then this season will end up being his career year, unfortunately for him and the Sox. Using an analogy from the other side of town, Derrek Lee's power disappeared after he broke his wrist, and I would expect the same for Quentin. He might never hit 30 HR again, he'll probably end up being a doubles hitter with about 15-20 HR/season, which really sucks. Too early to even speculate his career will go the way of D. Lee's. I broke my wrist in high school, and had no problem regaining strength in it.
  19. So what's the long-term prognosis for a fractured wrist?
  20. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 05:56 PM) side note: think it's time TCQ changed his stance? Nope, but it's time he wears some arm/wrist protection at the plate. FWIW, the rumor yesterday was that he did it by throwing his bat down after a K.
  21. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 04:54 PM) Great way to put that. Was that sarcasm? BTW, this injury shows why he had so many just miss 'ems the last two weeks. The ball just wasn't jumping off of his bat.
  22. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 04:51 PM) BREAKING NEWS FROM THE SCORE Jesse Rogers says wrist injury is severe and there is a fracture possibility. He's more than likely out for the rest of the regular season. Makes sense. Let's just hope he's ready to go for 2009.
  23. Yep, it's funny how much attention has been given to Zambrano, and no one has focused on Quentin. Just because they're two of the best hitters in baseball, it doesn't mean that one should be given more attention than the other!
  24. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 04:43 PM) Don't speculate. Just believe the Sox are just being cautious before making a formal statement. I think Joe C probbaly has a good in on stuff inside the clubhouse. Maybe you want us to see what Mariotti has to say? Cowley's now hearing nothing about it, which is not good news for us. Maybe that person on Reifert's blog was correct all along, and CQ's out 4 weeks with a fracture.
