Boston Red Sox vs. Tampa Bay Rays ALCS Thread
QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 03:20 AM) How many times do they have to mention that Carl Crawford was going to play basketball at UCLA or be Nebraska's QB? I've heard it 8000 times now I think. And the funny thing is it's not very accurate. Crawford received the usual recruiting letter in the mail from UCLA. Probably the same mail they send to 500 prospects every season.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 03:03 AM) Because bunting has been proven to be statistically useless, unless the winning run is on second or third? Trust me, no one hates bunting more than I do. But with the way Garza's throwing and Navarro's lack of speed, it seems like bunting would have been the appropriate call.

So why was Bartlett not bunting?

QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 12:38 AM) Not so sure. He went with the guys that brought them to the dance. They blew it. But he really didn't. All year, Wheeler was used in the 8th/9th inning. Why not let Howell try to get a few outs in the 7th and 8th innings? You ask any Tampa fan, and Wheeler might have the worst stuff of any of their bullpen guys. It's funny, as my brother was able to watch game 5 at a Tampa organization gathering. To say people were puzzled about Maddon's use of the bullpen is an understatement. Oh well, hopefully Tampa wins this. If not, go Phils!

If Tampa loses this series, Maddon deserves so much of the blame. His handing of pitching decisions in game 5 was the worst I've ever seen in a big game.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 19, 2008 -> 11:55 PM) You referring to two dropped TD passes and one nice TD reception. I typed that after Booker dropped the 2nd TD pass. He's a great guy, and he seemed so upset on the sideline. His TD reminded me of a college TD.

Off-Season Suggestion Thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 10, 2008 -> 03:07 AM) I have a question: If you think Fields would get us Figgins, then you are assuming the Angels think Fields is as good as Figgins. If so why wouldn't we just play Fields over Figgins? The last thing the Angels need is another power hitting prospect with issues making contact (see: Brandon Wood). From the sounds of it, the Angels want to move Figgins to LF.

Forget about Lowe....he's a Boras client. He's good, but he's going to get a ton of money and he's not exactly young. Sounds like he'll end up with the Yankees.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Oct 10, 2008 -> 03:57 AM) I figure his trade value will go down with the fact it is almost a guarantee they will trade him. It might take more than Egbert, but not much more, IMO. There's about 5 teams interested in him as their starting catcher this coming season who will give up a lot more than Egbert.

Laird is a very valued commodity. Why would the Rangers trade him for a pitcher like Egbert who is a non-prospect?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 05:04 PM) Many of their top spects had down years as well. Vitters is far and away their best prospect now. Colvin is so overrated, the Cubs should have traded him when he had value.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 04:54 PM) Not a great deal for the O's there. The Orioles will make one run at signing Roberts to an extension. If they can't agree to terms, they'll definitely trade him. With him having one year left on his deal, his value will be down as compared to last season. I actually like Marshall a lot more than Gallagher, but maybe McPhail doesn't. The Orioles have a glaring hole at SS though.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 04:34 PM) I just read in the trib and on the Cubs board than Cedeno is on his way out because of a confrontation with the Cubs trainers. I bet we could get our hands on him for somewhat cheap. I've always thought he would be a good player if given regular playing time. He would be both a good option for SS and also for super sub. I bet he goes with Marshall and Hoffpauir for Brian Roberts

Good riddance OC
Joe Cowley was just on the radio, and said that after some members of the Sox organization heard the OC to Twins rumors last week, they told Cowley they'll be happy to drive him to Minnesota.
