  1. QUOTE (daa84 @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 09:05 PM) gio is lucky to have only given up 1 so far He's lucky to still be in the game, given how close Dye and Griffey were to homers.
  2. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 09:04 PM) I don't always agree with you on the 'when and when not to bunt' viewpoint, but this was LMMFAO funny. Thanks, I was hoping people weren't taking that seriously.
  3. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 08:01 PM) What is Ozzie so upset about? Conlicted because he can't have Griffey bunt here?
  4. Just don't swing...Gio can't find the zone.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 07:54 PM) Arnie Munoz also was "famous" in the Sox organization for having the "wipeout" curve. Sometimes I laugh, or Dewon Day's amazing slider...or Willie Harris is a miniature Ray Durham. In this case, Gio is Barry Zito with a better fastball. Well, we shall see. He pitched very well his last time out. Also, there's a big difference pitching for the White Sox in the second half of 2007 versus 2008. I guess we will never know how Gio would have done in the heat of a pennant race, because it seems Oakland will be forever rebuilding and deconstructing. I remember Sports Illustrated saying that Munoz was the talk of Winter League with his Zito-esque curve.

Dewon Day's slider might be the most overrated pitch in the history of baseball.
  7. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 07:50 PM) He's looked great in Florida. I'd take him over Swisher and Griffey right now. Batting average up to .312....he's had clutch hits all year, and has played good defense. I'm waiting for him and Dempster to fade like everyone was telling me would happen.
  8. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 08:50 PM) I'm not on the Gio bandwagon like so many Soxtalkers were/are. I think he may do well, but there is no reason to think he is going to be an ace. His stuff isn't unbelievable, his control isn't impeccable. What is it that seems to project so well? Good curveball, but don't let Hawk fool you...he's not projected to be much more than a #4 or 5 starter.
  9. Disgusting...Gio throws consecutive balls to all four hitters to start the AB, and we get nothing.
  10. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 07:47 PM) Well Gio will not survive long if he gets behind every hitter. Just keep being patient. How did he miss that 3-2 pitch? 90 mph fastball right down the plate.
  11. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 08:27 PM) Looks like 2 of 3 for Oakland! It's too bad it's not Duke, Harden, Braden
  12. QUOTE (tommy @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 07:21 PM) I think there is a better chance Oakland can take one away from Minny. I didn't see the pitching match-ups Should be the Duke, Gallagher, and Braden against Blackburn, Slowey, Liriano
  13. QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 05:09 PM) Despite losing that game, that was one of the most entertaining games, with all the runs that scored. I remember DJ and Hawk were pretty loony that game as well. IIRC, Orlando Cabrera had a walkoff hit against the Sox the next day.
  14. Nice defense by the Marlins in the 7th inning...wow!
  15. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 07:00 PM) You give Halliday credit for a .04 better WHIP, yet Lee's 0.22 difference in ERA is only marginally significant? Cliff Lee has been the best pitcher in the AL all season...he'll be the Cy Young winner.
  16. How does the number of posts in the in-game threads compare between the two sites?
  17. QUOTE (tommy @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 07:07 PM) That didn't take long. Bottom 1st I hope the poster that predicted the Mariners would win 2 of 3 doesn't quit his day job.
  18. Twins are destroying Seattle already, so we have to win to keep even.
  19. QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 04:39 AM) I wonder what Bolt would have ran had he not hot dogged with 20m left. Far and away the fastest man I've ever seen.
  20. This Bears offensive line is seriously awful. It's sad that there's so little to look forward to this season.
  21. Thornton must like the smoke graphic on Fox, as he was filthy once again. Frank Thomas might have been our MVP today. Also, don't discount the great play Swisher made in the 7th. I'll be very content to be tied after tomorrow.
