QUOTE(Princess Dye @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 09:00 PM) RE: Fields.... Crede's an unbelievable fielder. If there's no trade, he's gonna play. Fault them for their overall logic of winning now, fine. But this is in line with it. The legend grows. It's like people who say Rowand was an unbelievable fielder. I can't wait to hear Hawk state every game how Crede should have 3 gold gloves by now. The only thing dumber is when he says Ozzie should have 3 World Series rings with the Sox already.

When is the negative thread going to open up?

QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 08:55 PM) Joe Crede-3B- White Sox Mar. 25 - 4:42 pm et The White Sox announced that they'll open the season with Joe Crede at third base and Josh Fields in the minors. Fields has every right to be upset, especially since Crede has been awful both offensively and defensively this spring. It's hard to imagine Crede remaining with the White Sox in 2009, so there's not much reason to go with him now. It doesn't look like he's going to build up a bunch of trade value anytime soon. He's hit .170/.220/.277 with two RBI in 47 at-bats this spring. Source: Chicago Tribune Juan Uribe-SS- White Sox Mar. 25 - 4:39 pm et The White Sox said Juan Uribe would get the first shot at second base this year. Actually, Pablo Ozuna is expected to get the first, first shot, based entirely on his success versus Cleveland's Opening Day starter, C.C. Sabathia. Uribe, though, will play over Ozuna and Alexei Ramirez most of the time initially. It seems unlikely that he'll last a regular all year. Source: Chicago Tribune Interesting, another observer that says Crede looks terrible on defense so far.

I have such a problem with playing a guy you know won't be back with the organization in 2009 for a guy who should be a cornerstone of the offense for the next 5 years.
-
QUOTE(Wanne @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 08:48 PM) Ya know...everybody's got their points on all these moves: Fields/Crede, BA/Owens, Uribe, etc...and it is what it is...but for the life of me I'm still trying to figure out just WHAT THE HELL Toby Hall brings to this team?!? A contract we apparently don't want to waste.
-
I just hope it doesn't become a battle on here where the Kenny/Oz apologists make snide remarks every time Fields goes 0-3 3 K in the minors, while the Crede haters make remarks every time Crede does bad in a game.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 08:42 PM) And nothing pisses me off more than this. We traded a starting pitcher for a SS for 1 year, and we just move our fat goat to another position. Brilliant! After seeing OC this ST, I'm happy we haven't signed him to an extension. He looks a step slow.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 08:37 PM) What a miserable organization -- absolutely f***ing pathetic. And seriously -- someone's arguing about Fields' defense in LF? Even if he's terrible out there, who gives a damn? He'd have to be a statue -- a complete statue, not moving for any ball hit to him -- to make up for the difference between his and Owens' bat. (I don't advocate Fields in LF, BTW -- he should be at third-base. Starting in Chicago. Every GM in baseball called your bluff w/r/t Crede, Kenny, time to cut your losses.) I really wish we would have signed Hunter...I don't care if it was 18 million a year. After we lost him, it seems like KW's entire plan was blown up and he might have panicked with some of his moves.
-
The good news is that Fields won't K 3 times on opening day against C.C. It might be funny seeing Ramirez take some cuts against him.

Wouldn't it have been so much nicer to have an outfield of Quentin, Anderson, and Fields, while saving the money on Dye's contract and not having to trade 3 prospects for Swisher (I like Swisher).

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 08:35 PM) In other words same team, different year. Better bullpen, significantly worse starting rotation. If anything, maybe this year will finally prove how underrated Garland was by Sox fans.
-
QUOTE(SoxAce @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 08:30 PM) This is TWICE in this season alone that KW gave his word (Gio not losing, Crede to be traded) and broke it. His word should equal s*** to anyone. Watch out Pauly. Or maybe KW just loves having veterans in the lineup as he doesn't try to have to rebuild.
-
Another game, another poor performance so far against LHP.
-
QUOTE(SoxAce @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 08:28 PM) It's gonna be Owens bro. I already see it happening. BA, once again, will be a 4th OF. Owens has basically been named the starting CF. Ozzie is planning on him leading off vs RHP, and batting 9th vs LHP.
-
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 08:25 PM) You really thought the offense would improve? By the way, you may want to change the date in your sig to reflect the next failure. What I don't get is that we brought in Swisher for our new "strategy" of OBP and making pitchers work. However, now we have a CF, 3b, and 2b who are some of the worst players in baseball in terms of drawing walks. Our 3-4-5-6 hitters should do a great job at making pitchers work, but the rest of the offense will probably even things out by how aggressive they are.
-
It looks like we're going to have Crede at 3rd base, Owens in CF, and Uribe at 2nd base. So much for hoping our offensive would significantly improve this season. If Anderson doesn't make the team, then I'm really going to question the way Ozzie has handled a particular group of players that have been in our minor league system.
-
QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 08:20 PM) Again, its a crap situation, but it's the situation the Sox are presently in. And Fields in LF SUCKS! Fields got what, 2 weeks in the outfield? For a former Big 12 quarterback, I am confident he has the athletic ability to play the easiest position in all of baseball. If Carlos Lee was able to transform into a suitable defensive player, so could Fields. And we played Pods in LF, so it's not like it can get any worse.
-
QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 08:15 PM) Over-under on the amount of games needed for KW to swallow his pride and jettison Crede and benchOwens in favor of Fields and Quentin? 50? As long as Ozzie's our manager, Owens will have a spot.
-
Bourgeois, Carrasco, and Phillips also cut. Looks like we have a deadweight back-up catcher again.
-
If the Sox were so intent on having Crede play 3rd base, we would have better much better off putting Fields in LF, letting Owens/Anderson fight for CF, and not trading 3 of our top prospects for Swisher. Considering that the Richar trade is a bust as of now, and Quentin isn't likely to be a starter, we really have wasted all of our minor league resources.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 07:51 PM) Well the score just announced that Josh Fields has been sent down to AAA. Unreal. Shame on KW and Ozzie. What a terrible message this sends to our young players (who aren't particularly fond of Ozzie in the first place).

Heard some inside info that Ernie Kent is trying to convince Kevin Dillard to go to prep school next year, and then sign with Oregon in 2009. -
QUOTE(sf_soxfan @ Mar 24, 2008 -> 09:19 PM) Count seems to have settled down, need some fargin' offense off Jarrod fargin' Washburn This team will be awful again against LHP, especially if Fields isn't in the lineup.

QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Mar 24, 2008 -> 02:46 AM) i know it is a silly question but i'm not a baseball know it all. it's silly cuz i know hawk will say 10x within the first week alone that: a. the pitchers are ahead of the hitters b. the hitters are ahead of the pitchers which one is it? a

http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune....ys-develop.html Still no guarantee that Anderson makes the opening day roster. It's amazing the bulls*** that comes out of the mouth of some of the Sox decision makers.
