I give credit to Razor Shines for sticking up for Tracey during everything last year.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 24, 2007 -> 03:12 AM) How is he awful? He's got very good stuff for a reliever, with that fastball of his and he deserves a chance somewhere. If Tracey is awful, does that make Matt Thornton awful before he came to us, because he has great stuff but no control whatsoever either. And Thornton shows you that in the right situation and with the right coaching (who knows what Leo Mazzone will do to Tracey), you can succeed. Tracey has a 91/92 mph fastball with no control. He won't be making any major league team. Tracey's stuff isn't on the same planet as that of Thornton. That would be like comparing Buehrle's stuff to Santana's stuff.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Mar 24, 2007 -> 02:17 AM) Flash, hindsight is 20/20. And Arizona isn't the best place to prove your pitching prowess. At the time, Floyd was a good choice for the 5th starter. Just like Sirotka was for the Blue Jays, Benson was for the Orioles, etc. You can't live in the past andput every trade under the microscope based on a short amount of Spring Training time. You just can't. GM's are like quarterbacks...they get too much credit for a good trade and are ripped too much for a bad one. What in the world has Floyd done to be a good choice for 5th starter coming into this season?

That Kobe guy is good. -
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 24, 2007 -> 01:44 AM) I have this persistent sinking feeling that either Floyd begins the season in the bullpen, or begins in AAA and is immediately promoted (regardless of success in Charlotte) once someone begins to struggle. Answer this for me -- how does Williams answer the question of trading Garcia, and the perceived benefits it was supposed to provide the 2007 White Sox? He mentioned it on numerous occasions when media members were wondering whether such a move was a precursor to rebuilding. His only saving grace would be if Garcia is injured and requires a large amount of time on the disabled list. Now, because someone is bound to misinterpret what I'm saying, I believe dealing Garcia was necessary. Problem is, when the general manager mentions himself a trade was configured for our short-term and long term success -- and there's no 'short -term' option to speak of -- you're going to look rather foolish. You're better off just forgetting that quote by KW. It seems like KW was intent on trading a starter at the Winter Meetings, and he might have been a little quick to pull the trigger on the last day. It's pointless trying to prove to some people on this board that baseball executives were shocked at how little we got for Garcia. It was the same people who were quoting Garcia's trade prestige in that GM poll before the trade happened (and how they thought we'd get the world for him).

QUOTE(southsida86 @ Mar 24, 2007 -> 01:40 AM) I was hoping Floyd would pitch well too. If he doesn't get the 5th starter job, they should keep him in the bigs to work long relief. I think that Floyd needs to work on throwing strikes/getting ahead of hitters. From what I've seen and heard of him, that is his only obstacle to success. Um, please don't put him on the 25 man roster. This guy needs to prove he can get minor leaguers out, and then he can think of getting major leaguers out in a year. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Mar 24, 2007 -> 01:41 AM) So what are the drawbacks to Danks? He tends to be a bit wild, doesn't he? His high fastball is going to go a long way at the Cell.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 24, 2007 -> 01:36 AM) Since you watched the game fathom, what was the difference b/w his outing today and his outing last time when he pitched a lot better? Anything you can tell in terms of stuff etc.? I didn't see his game last time. He faced a lot of major league hitters though today, and from what I can recall, he was facing more of the benchers last time. Floyd is so far away from being MLB caliber.

Well, nice walk by Green there. These refs are just pathetic in this tournament. Vanderbilt was robbed. -
Watched the replay of Floyd pitching. Everything about him looks bad. His delivery/arm slot is awful, as you can pick up the ball right away. His fastball is in the 89 range, and he can't throw his offspeed pitch over the plate. He is nowhere near having good control, and that's what his downfall is right now. I'll make the prediction that he won't have an ERA under 4.50 in AAA.

The worst call of the tournament right there on the 3 pt play for Horford. That was a massive travel. -

James Brown is the most horrendous announcer ever. He sounds like he's on a cell phone. -
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 09:48 PM) Pretty damn quick, I'll guarantee you that. It's just obvious to me numerous people within our organization thought way too much of Floyd. It boggles my mind how much better the package the Rockies got for Jennings was compared to what we got for Garcia.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 09:43 PM) Excellent. Atkins is the man ($1 keeper in my league,) and Floyd can go to hell. How fast until someone brings up KW's quote of "not trading a SP unless it helps the 2007 team" once Floyd gets sent down? I don't care about the quote....I'll have a lot more respect for KW if he sends Floyd down to the minors WHERE HE BELONGS instead of keeping him on the major league roster in order to try and save face. Gavin Floyd is a bad pitcher.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 09:07 PM) podsednik looks so slow I honestly believe he isn't that fast. There's no doubt that Ozuna is the fastest player on the team, and Mackowiak is just as fast as Pods is.

I'd like to see Danks do well the 2nd time through the order.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 08:15 PM) Dye chasing a flyball to his left. He's great at going back on the ball. Besides that, you won't find anyone slower at going to the ball to the left/right of him, and in front of him. It's fine though....at least he makes up for his defensive woes with his bat.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 08:13 PM) Like watching someone trudge through quicksand.... What's that?

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 08:10 PM) Hmm, what do Anderson, Tracey, and McCarthy have in common, again? Overrated prospects from within our system?

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 08:06 PM) I'm not implying anything. I'm answering a question directed towards Fathom. I could be misinterpreting his post, but I doubt it. I would have corrected you if you were wrong. I think it's safe to say that it's not wise to get in Ozzie's doghouse.

Two down, one to go.

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 03:37 PM) Seeing as this thread has gone ot hell in a handbasket I thought I'd do a little vent. Mark Prior is now on his way to the rotation and Cy Young according to Comcast. Well all I saw was he was lucky to get out of the first and third and weather conditions favored the pitcher greatly. Oh well back to Pictionary. I watched some of his outing yesterday, and his fastball was being clocked at 79 mph to start the game. It took 3 pitches for the Cubs announcers to start making excuses about the radar gun, etc. The scary thing for Prior is that he's always been a high ball pitcher, and those 84 mph high fastballs go a long way.

Congrats! If it was a boy, would it have been named Greg or Walker?

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 05:40 AM) If there's a foul with under 10 it's still a foul. The players are still deciding the game at that point by drawing the foul and commiting a foul. Saying you don't want fouls under 10 is way too broad a statement. Most of these have been warranted, and a few no calls affect the game even more so. I'm not blaming the refs. Instead, I'm blaming some stupid defensive plays that are giving teams 2 shots to go ahead with only a few seconds left. It seems like it's happened at least 5 times in this tournament. All I want is one buzzer beater! -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 05:28 AM) And responding to the earlier comment. I think Thad coached the pants off of Pearl in the second half. His use of Butler on Lofton, he insertion of Lighty to shut down bradshaw, and his use of Terwilliger during Tenn's small lineup min. Also subbing Oden at the right times down the stretch were timed perfect. Bruce didnt make many changes offensively when it was obvious that OSU's defense had increased pressure and used a fast small lineup. He did a good job of handling Oden, even though I was surprised he didn't have him in on defense with about 3 minutes left when Lofton hit that layup. Lighty is one of the worst outside shooters I've seen this year....yet he shot his 3 pointer with so much confidence.
