QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 02:53 PM) You're going to see one but probably not the other. I'd like to see Ozzie get creative against LHP. There are some guys that Konerko historically struggles against. Why not give him a break a few times against those guys, and let Perez hack away. As for Thome, there's guys like C.C. that make him look silly (as did Randy Johnson last year, but he's in the NL now). I just think that against LHP, you need to be more creative than we were last year, and KW has done a good job at getting Ozzie some better options vs LHP. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 02:49 PM) i'm for bringing ARow back. I'm not for overpaying Pat Gillick to get him. Doesn't Gillick owe us after the awful Garcia trade?

QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 02:50 PM) while BA was hitting .257. .257 or not, Anderson didn't contribute much offensively the whole season. I know his road numbers were ungodly awful for a long stretch of the season.

QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 02:45 PM) Bottom line, you dont make a trade for a platoon player right . We have plenty of platooners. The only way that we should make this deal is if we are moving Rowand on for something else or he is going to be the starter. I disagree. With the tough LHP in our division, you need every last bit of offense you can get against them. Rowand's a pretty solid hitter against LHP, and I would actually state I'd rather see him batting against the likes of C.C. and Santana than I would Brian Anderson. Of course, the two guys I'd most want to see face the tough lefties are Ozuna and Eduardo Perez.

QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 02:43 PM) to those who say they "can't wait for him to take a half-season to figure this out, they want to win now", when was hitting ever a chronic problem for us last year? And while Anderson was a black hole in our lineup, we were winning! If memory serves, BA hit less than .200 while we went 55-32 or so to start the season... Our offense was mediocre during the 2nd half last year.

QUOTE(max power @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 02:31 PM) 2004 was pretty damn good. As with all of baseball, nothing prior to 2005 should be considered as 100 pct legit.

QUOTE(WhiteSoxFan1 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 02:24 PM) I like Rowand. I hope we get him back despite everyone's dislike for him. Can we trade him for Pods and Heath Phillips, and then platoon Rowand in LF with Mackowiak?

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 02:05 PM) Fathom, please elaborate. I was reading this post and looked to the left, expecting a total of about 10 posts from some newb, then saw it was you... Wouldn't Rowand not elaborate no matter what? Players aren't supposed to talk about that kind of s***. I would just think this would be a hell of a weird thing to do when BA is hitting so well (finally), it just seems like it would be a weird move. I just want to know why you are so convinced, I need more Fathom, I crave... more! Mike North asked Rowand if KW has ever told him about any plans to bring him back to the club, and Rowand said that he can't comment on that at this time. If you listened to the whole interview, Rowand gave off the vibe that he's not going to be with the Phillies for much longer. And the whole "why would we need him instead of Anderson question" can be answered by this: KW, Ozzie, and the whole organization love Aaron Rowand. Brian Anderson....not so much.
-
Did anyone else hear Rowand's interview around 8:15 with Mike North. After hearing the interview, I'm anticipating him being on the Sox any second now. Rowand had a couple of "no comments" when asked about what KW has told him about coming back to the Sox, etc. Also, Rowand seemed very disgruntled about his situation in Philadelphia.

QUOTE(pale_hose @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 02:13 AM) Anywho, lets give BA one more year before we run him out of town. The Brian Anderson situation has nothing to do with the posters on here. It all has to do with one man.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 01:24 AM) Stanford over Louisville seems unlikely given that the game is 70 miles from Louisville, will be heavily attended by Louisville fans and Stanford will be playing at roughly 8:40 am their time (when you figure in the time zones as well as the time change ahead this week). There's going to be a lot of fans from Lexington there, and you better believe they'll be rooting against Lville. Should be an interesting dynamic.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 12, 2007 -> 11:05 PM) Perez still needs another two years in the minors. Aardsma is still intriguing because he has had past success in the bigs. Terrero might make it as a backup, IMO. Aardsma has had one good month. The only thing intriguing about him so far in his career is that he's first alphabetically.
-
Aardsma isn't a good pitcher. I can't believe we put so much stock into a month full of games pitched against AAA call-ups. We have enough power pitchers coming out of the bullpen. We needed some guys who can get batters out and actually have decent control. Our bullpen is full of guys with iffy control this season.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 12, 2007 -> 05:51 PM) Its seemed like he is being rushed, but the guy is clearly the best young arm in the system and has gone out and taken that 5th spot. If Danks ends up as the 5th starter, that trade has to look pretty freakin good at this point. I definitely agree with the fact that McCarthy trade is looking good. However, just as you said it seems Danks is being rushed, doesn't it also feel like Floyd is being rushed? After his season last year, we seemed to just throw him right into the 5th starter race. Oh well....I just hope that Danks wins the role, and it's not handed to Floyd.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 12, 2007 -> 06:08 AM) Wayne McClain to NIU is what I'm hoping for. No chance they'll hire another U of I assistant coach. I look for Phillips to use his ND connections, and possibly hire Gene Cross.
-
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 12, 2007 -> 12:45 AM) so, in those 10 innings, how many times have you seen him bunt? and how f'ing important is bunting anyways? Not really that important, so that's a moot point. Timo Perez is a good bunter, maybe the Sox should trade for him again...? I'd be a happy man if the Sox didn't bunt one time this season.

I don't like the fact that Garland threw again today, and the soreness is not gone.

QUOTE(Fotop @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 10:50 PM) ND gets boned, really not surprised though since the committee has never showed ND any love. Go play in Spokane against a dangerous mid-major. Then if you survive, play Oregon in a legit road game. The only thing ND can do now is prove the committee wrong and use this as motivation. Let's Go Irish! The entire Big East was given no love, but the Big 10 did get some love. I don't understand it. The entire crowd will be rooting for Winthrop. -
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 10:47 PM) Stanford beat 5 solid tourney teams, I don't see why everyone is up in arms over them getting in. Especially now that their best player is healthy. They can easily beat Louisville.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 10:43 PM) Gonzaga would like a revenge game with UCLA. Can we demand Gus Johnson announce it? -
Obviously, the Big East wasn't highly regarded by the committee.

Couldn't be happier with GT's situation. They match-up better vs defensive squads, and UNLV and Wisconsin are known better for their defense than offense. -

I'd like to set the over/under for the amount of times Illinois fans call Deron Washington a thug at 1000. -
QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 10:22 PM) Nope. Could definitely see us making the Sweet 16 here. Virginia Tech is pretty Jekyl or Hyde though. They play some great games and some really bad ones. The only thing is that VT might have the two best defensive guards in the country, and will make it tough for the mediocre guards of Illinois to do anything.

Illinois couldn't ask for a better situation.

Whisler looks great.
