QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 08:59 PM) You can't tell me the Sox players don't mind any of Ozzie's act. I'll never forget the look of disgust Dye had when he saw Ozzie b****ing out Garland in the dugout for not hitting a Rangers hitter.

QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 08:57 PM) Don't get me wrong, I love Anderson and I want him starting in center too. But there's nothing wrong with some extra motivation from managers and coaches, and Ozzie has a different way of going about that... the players know it, and we should too. Anderson has done nothing to be just handed the starting CF job right out of the gate, make him feel like he has to keep earning that right. Not everything that comes out of Ozzie's mouth should be taken so seriously at this point. Ozzie bashed McCarthy non-stop last year.....and we see what the end result of that was. Erstad is the exact type of player that Ozzie loves, and I can't see Ozzie resisting putting Pods and Erstad into the lineup together.

What number will Sandy Alomar Jr. wear when he's our manager in 2008?
-
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 08:52 PM) I think it has nothing to do with an overreaction with what Ozzie has to say, it has more to do with a sincere desire to see him shut his cakehole. Because it will hurt his team down the line, if it hasn't already. Like how ARod would have refused a trade to Chicago due to his dislike of Ozzie.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 08:50 PM) Maybe if his name was Bríañ Añdersón..... Thanks for saying what many of us were thinking.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 08:42 PM) Most "experts" agree with you. They don't think his act is suited for long-term success. If the Sox don't make the playoffs this year, I fully expect us to go into a rebuilding mode. Ozzie would never be the manager of a rebuilding team, especially with his difficulty in handling criticism during losing. Ozzie was a horrific manager last year, as he had no idea when to pull his starting pitchers. Also, his handling of Mackowiak in CF should have been a fireable offense.
-
QUOTE(SoxAce @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 08:35 PM) It's also strange because I believe Ozzie prefered youngsters over veterans at one time?! I'm probably wrong though. No way.....he very much prefers veteran players.
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 08:32 PM) I doubt it. It's been clear for a while now that Ozzie has had a bias against B-Mac and Anderson. If not, he should've been more clear in what he meant by that particular comment. If Ozzie basically runs McCarthy and Anderson out of town, I'll repeat what I said last year: it's too bad Ozzie isn't a man of his word, and didn't quit after winning the World Series.
-
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 08:16 PM) This is nuclear. On McCarthy: "We might be in the playoffs without him." Ironic he says this, but he says that Podsednik will have his starting spot no matter what.
-
Without listening to the interview, I'll actually stick up for Ozzie and say he probably meant hanging out with Anderson was stupid due to his partying and being goofy. The best case scenario for the Sox would be Anderson to earn his position, and Pods to take a while to recover and let Erstad/Ozuna platoon in LF.

QUOTE(hometeamfan @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 05:50 PM) Wrong....Danks has an easy stride of 89 - 93mph (hits 94 once he gets cranked up). Tell me you aren't listening what the Rangers say about pitching! LOL That's a direct quote from Ed Farmer on the broadcast two days ago.
-
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 05:35 PM) Please, someone tell me Danks throws at a higher velocity than ~90mph. Nope, according to his pitching coach from last year, he throws between 88 and 90 mph. I'm with you Flash, I'm with you.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 1, 2007 -> 11:06 PM) How many teams have a payroll higher than the Sox right now? Boston, New York, the Cubs, Anahiem, and the Mets are obvious teams, with LA, Toronto, San Fran (maybe?), and St. Louis in the neighborhood. We're still the highest payroll in our division. I can see you guys b****ing if the Sox, next season, let go Dye and Buehrle and sign a bunch of Darin Erstad's to replace them (you know what I mean), but yeesh -- at least let it happen first... My post was entirely based on the attitude that KW has taken in regards to the market. I have no reason to believe that the Sox will retain Buehrle and Dye after this year, and then Crede will be gone the following season (if he's not traded before that). I admire KW for what he did for the 2005 team, as he did a great job of signing guys who fit are needs. However, if he's going to b**** and whine in the press about what the market is like these days, then I'm worried about what our approach will be when it comes to extending players, etc. QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 12:39 AM) Don't get me wrong I don't want to give Buehrle a huge ass contract unless he shows he can get back to form and same for Dye, but vice versa. I don't know what the hell were waiting on Iguchi for. Iguchi is the least of my concerns, as 2nd base is one of the easier positions to sign someone at for medium salaries. I think the replacement we could get for him would be a lot closer to his production than what Dye's replacement in RF would be, or trying to find another starting pitcher.
-
It's a pretty novel concept by the Rangers with Young. Even though the market is crazy, you still have to retain your core players. I just hope that KW doesn't give up on the idea of bringing back some of our core guys. The argument of "we're still spending 100 million dollars for our payroll" doesn't mean as much in this market, as 100 million dollar payroll might be the equivalent of a 75 million dollar payroll a few years ago.

SOX @ Rox / DBacks @ Sox - 3/1 split-squad

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 1, 2007 -> 10:33 PM) Can Tracey please accept that trade offer from KW? Please? Don't worry, he has zero future in this organization. I take it he didn't do very well today? -
QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Mar 1, 2007 -> 05:39 AM) Actually, without Jenks the Sox are in better shape than most teams would be. MacDougal really isn't a bad pitcher, and he could slide into the closer role (he's done it before -- he's a "proven closer"). Losing Jenks would be a blow, and would thin out the bullpen significantly, unless Masset is everything Williams thinks he is. But at least there's a reasonably competent replacement. I agree, closer is actually one of the positions where we would have depth at.
-
QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Mar 1, 2007 -> 05:34 AM) Well, before anyone gets nailed up on post for having Jenks pitch, "tightness" is a pretty vague description. I think it's hard to know what's going on in a pitcher's arm (even with MRIs, people often make mistakes). It's possible that it is just muscle soreness/stiffness that will improve, and in that case having Jenks throw I don't think is that bad. Of course, as a Sox fan, I'm bracing for the news that he's lost for the season. No matter what team, pitcher, or manager we're talking about, if the player has as much difficulty getting loose before pitching as Jenks describes as having, they shouldn't be on the mound. I'd really like to know what the training regimen Jenks was on, as flexibility is usually one of the things stressed for pitchers offseason.
-
FWIW, Ozzie and the coaching staff was aware before the game that Jenks was having shoulder tightness.
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 1, 2007 -> 03:33 AM) Anytime a pitcher has to leave a game after 10 pitches because of an issue with a shoulder or an elbow you have to be concerned. If Jenks said he's had this problem since spring training started, can someone explain to me why the hell he took the mound today? I was thinking the same exact thing. It's frustrating that Garland said he felt tightness in his shoulder also, and couldn't get loose. If that's the case, then why are we putting these guys on the field right now?
-
QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Feb 28, 2007 -> 10:29 PM) just tightness in his shoulder. No pain. It's good that he didn't feel pain, but you have to be concerned whenever a pitcher (especially a power pitcher like Jenks) has shoulder tightness.

Interesting that Danks pitching coach from last year said he only throws 88 to 90 mph. Most of the scouting reports when we traded for him said he throws 90 to 93 mph. -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Feb 28, 2007 -> 10:17 PM) BA rocked a double. 1-for-3 on the day. Said the ball went about 450 feet. Seems like we have 4 or 5 doubles from our main offensive guys. -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 28, 2007 -> 10:14 PM) Just got back from class, can anyone give an overview so far? Buehrle and Garland got shelled, and Jenks threw about 10 pitches (with no control), and pulled himself after calling Ozzie and Herm to the mound. No update on his condition. -

Needless to say, if there's any injury report relayed on the radio, please report it here.
