QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 06:43 PM) If they bring in Zumaya, PH Mackowiak. Heck, Ozuna might have the best chance by just poking one to RF. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 06:44 PM) Watching the World Series DVD Jose Contreras throws 3/4 delivery and pounds the zone. This was due to Coop and El Duque telling him to pitch like a cuban. Last spring we see Contreras dominate, and then his back hurts. And after that he does pitch like a cuban, the cuban is El Duque without a pair. Now Count pitches away from contact like he did in New York, and he has become Mr. sidearmer. So one of two things have happened. Either Contreras's back still hurts and he is compensating by going side arm all the time, or he has lost his mind. He was so nasty at the end of 2005. He was throwing 96 mph fastballs with great sink in on righties, and he was always going with the forkball when he had 2 strikes.

QUOTE(Capn12 @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 06:38 PM) Why do we just look like absolute butchers in the field this year at times.. Outside of the Buehrle no-hitter, the infielders seem rather lazy. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 06:39 PM) Well, he's certainly our worst starter at this point. Yes he is

The crappy news is also if Robertson is out of the game, we failed to get at least 5 hits against ANOTHER LHP starter.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 06:30 PM) Here are my hopes for Erstad if this continues much longer: DFA Hate to break it to you, but in the eyes of Ozzie and Hawk, it's more like HOF

QUOTE(Capn12 @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 06:29 PM) So, tell me again since we have Ozuna leading off, what is the point of grindErstad being in there, against a lefty, over BA? I'm sure it was mentioned but I'm too lazy to go back and read. Literally Ozzie thinks the world of Erstad, and that Erstad is his best defensive player. It's to the point that I'd gladly take Rowand back just to not have to deal with Erstad anymore in CF. If anyone has ever seen the movie "Little Big League", his rbi single last night reminded me of the situation with aging veteran Jerry Johnson.

It would be great to hold them and score a few runs next inning before we see Zumaya for a few innings.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 06:16 PM) I sincerly think he might be one of the 5 slowest runners in the game. Can anyone name 5 slower guys? Bengie Molina is the only one that comes to mind instantly. Jason Phillips However, PK is definitely one of the five slowest.

QUOTE(Capn12 @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 06:13 PM) This just in, Konerko is horrid at the plate!! I'd like to thank Leyland for bringing in Grilli last night to face PK. Before that AB, he was 4-6 with 2 homers.

Good job by Thome making contact.

At least I can see why Ozzie isn't allowing Pablo to ever ph for Erstad now.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 06:05 PM) OK, I know the guy's a career minor leaguer and I shouldn't expect anything from him besides catching pitches, but does anyone think there's a chance that Molina EVER gets a hit? He wouldn't hit over .150 if he spent the whole season in the majors. Just a total disgrace he's on a big league roster.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 05:58 PM) His OPS is nearly identical this year. .489 against LHP .490 against RHP The pro-Erstads will mention how Darin's ground out move the runner to third, but he didn't score. That's not a productive out to me. That was the second out of the inning and the runner is probably going to score from second on anything but an infield hit. Something I hadn't noticed this year until a close-up of him last night was how skinny his shoulder/neck area is. I remember him being a lot thicker in the past. It's funny how we used to all state he was a classic example of 'roids.

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 05:56 PM) He hit a couple of nice line drives into the outfield the final game of the Rangers' series. But he does have about 20 4-3 outs now. Well, that was 3 gift runs...should still be 4-0 now. Reminds me of the Saturday FOX game last year that Guillen and Inge f--ed up. You mean when Brian Anderson actually had a clutch hit against a LHP?

As if seeing Erstad leadoff against righties isn't bad enough, him playing against LHP just boggles my mind.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 05:44 PM) I really hate cavernous ballparks. Didn't we win last night cause of it? Polanco's ball was crushed in the 9th.

Can someone quickly compile the amount of hits we've had each game against the starting LHP? I wasn't being sarcastic when I asked earlier if we'd top 5 hits today vs Robertson. I hate saying this cause it sounds like Hawk/DJ, but I'm grateful we have the record we do right now. I still have no faith in our offense, but thankfully our bullpen has won us quite a few games lately.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 05:37 PM) Wouldn't it be some crazy s*** if we got no-hit a couple days after throwing one ourselves? If it results in some changes made to this lefty lineup, I'd be all for it.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 05:30 PM) im not even going to bother watching this game on the big screen... I'd rather watch it on the little screen by my computer and b**** to you guys about it Contreras is really gonna get rocked if he keeps throwing that 91 mph fastball right down the middle. Lucky there isn't runners at the corners right now. He has been hit HARD twic in a row now. That fastball is a big concern. Not only has he lost his velocity, he's lost all the moment that came with the arm angles. Another thing that happens when your velocity is down is that hitters can be a little more patient on that forkball. Basically, if he can't get his fastball up to 94 mph again, he's not going to have an ERA below 5.

QUOTE(Shadows @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 05:23 PM) Whats your point? vs anyone this year were batting a collective like .219 anyways I dont think it mattered if they were LH or RH we cant hit right now regardless At least we have an actual catcher who could hit over .220 in AA in the lineup then.

Funny how far Contreras has fallen from this point last year to right now. He's easily our worst starting pitcher.

Looks like Contreras has his opening day stuff....gotta keep the damage to a minimum.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 05:12 PM) Are you having a rough day today? You are particularly whiny today. Huh? Until our offense starts hitting LHP, I'll keep stating that our lefty lineup is a joke. What else did I whine about?
