  1. Since no one asked for my opinion, here's what I think after hearing that interview: there's just as good of a chance as re-signing Crede today as there was yesterday. KW uses the media to send messages to people. I'm not ready to scratch Crede off my 2007 White Sox depth chart.
  2. I've heard rumors of the Red Sox being interested in Rocco Baldelli for CF for a few years now.
  3. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 05:37 AM) How about this option: Jose Guillen? I can't see Ozzie/KW wanting to put up with his attitude. Just like Lugo and Freel, I'd rather stay away from him and make him someone else's problem. I do appreciate though how you bring up realistic players though...keep the names coming. BTW, I'd like to add that we better not show any interest in D. Erstad. He's long been a favorite of KW and Hawk.
  4. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 05:36 AM) Cory Lidle didn't bring the A's a stud package after his 2002 season. Garcia has a much better reputation than Lidle though.
  5. QUOTE(Felix @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 05:29 AM) Just throwing this out there, but the Tigers went 18-20 against the best of the division this year, and only 31-26 against the non-worthless members of the division. Despite this, they led the division for most of the year, and wound up among the leagues best, rather than in third place. Don't forget that we went something like 3-12 in games that were started by Santana, C.C., and Rogers this season. We could do ourselves a big favor if we can beef up our lineup against LHP. The lefty pitching in our division is just going to get better, as guys like Liriano, Andrew Miller, Sowers, etc. mature. I think we're going to try and upgrade our back-up catcher also, and hope that the player can give us some offense against LHP.
  6. QUOTE(Felix @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 05:24 AM) Gload has hit lefties better than righties in his career (.323/.357/.484 to .292/.341/.428), albiet a much smaller sample size (93 AB to 397 AB). Regardless, just because "we have no one to face all the great LHP in our division" (which isn't true) doesn't mean we'd be a third place team... especially since our offense is so good against righties, which make up nearly 66% of the pitchers in the league. 3 of the Tigers starters are likely to be LHP, the Twins have the big 2, 3 of the Indians starters are going to be LHP, and KC always seems to have a lot of lefties in their rotation. If our lineup can't handle LHP next season, we're going to struggle within our division. Teams simply don't platoon two lefties in the same position.
  7. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 05:01 AM) Sweeney? Well....who can bunt, steal bases, and make contact?
  8. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 04:48 AM) Yeah I'd go for Dellucci also. Ozuna can just be the platoon partner again vs. LHP. I'd rather not have to watch Ozuna play 60 games in the outfield again this season. Also, I don't think Dellucci is Ozzie's type of player. If you read everything that Ozzie is saying in the press, it's quite obvious he's referring to a specific player.
  9. QUOTE(Felix @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 04:32 AM) I think that Sweeney will adjust to major league pitching quicker than Anderson, but I see your point, which is why I mentioned Gload as another possibility, preferably as a platoon. (and yes, I know he's not that great defensively) So we have no one to face all the great LHP in our division? Might as well pencil us in for 3rd place then.
  10. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 01:59 AM) again if we wanted Furcal he was just a f/a why wouldnt we of signed him than? Plus to give them our top prospects for him... he isnt a bad player but he isnt worth the money even if they paid a couple million...and he isnt worth us losing the few prospects we have. Furcal would be a great fit for the team if the Dodgers are willing to pick up some of his contract. I'd much rather give up someone like Fields for Furcal than average relievers like Linebrink.
  11. QUOTE(SinkingShip06 @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 01:57 AM) Shannon Stewart solves left field and leadoff man problem. i've loved this guy ever since his Toronto days He's always injured, is pathetic defensively, and he's lost two steps. He'd be a terrible fit for what we're looking for.
  12. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 01:50 AM) he was hitting in the .300's for a majority of the year.. i dont see a problem with Pieryznski at all. His pull baseball approach in the 2nd half killed our offense. He was around .260 for most of the 2nd half with very few walks.
  13. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 01:39 AM) Indeed. That would have helped me... So what do you know of Lugo's intentions? Does he want to stay LAD if they will start him? Because he'd be a lot cheaper than 13M. I've heard rumblings that the Dodgers have been less than thrilled with his attitude so far. Also, he's expecting 8 mil a year, and the Blue Jays are said to be very interested.
  14. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 01:38 AM) Anyone else like my idea of Gload/Mack/Byrnes/Anderson platoons for CF and LF? No, and only for these two reasons: 1) Byrnes is going to get a lot more money than he's worth this offseason, 2) I don't trust Ozzie to use those players the right way.
  15. I wish we could have a banner that says: LUGO IS A FREE AGENT
  16. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 01:24 AM) I rather not see us start two super young players everday in the OF. We don't exactly have a strong history of our prospects looking major league ready in their first few years in the majors, in regards to offense.
  17. QUOTE(Felix @ Oct 1, 2006 -> 10:00 PM) Can I have "Ryan Sweeney" for 500? (or hell, Ross Gload) If he's starting in LF, I hope we upgrade offensively in CF, as well as add a back-up LF we can platoon Sweeney with.
  18. McDonough is going to take over for now, but the rumors of Steve Stone becoming team president are already starting.
  19. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 1, 2006 -> 08:53 PM) So did Thome, have we not taught him how to hit either? 97 mph gas followed by a high 80's slider is hard to hit and hard to see. Come on man, sometimes the pitcher beats you. I guess I'm just disappointed that Josh Fields looks like he can't touch a good fastball. I've heard awful reports regarding him in the minors, and they seem to be justified so far. The only positive about Fields is that when he does hit it, the ball jumps off of his bat. That's my biggest concern with Sweeney so far. Anderson's final AB was quite fitting.
  20. Catalanotto also seems to get hurt quite frequently. Considering how many tough lefties we have to face in our division, it makes no sense to bring him in unless you have another player who can platoon with him.
  21. Do we teach our players to not protect at the plate? Both Fields and Sweeney have looked like statues today watching the called 3rd strike.
  22. I have no problem with how he managed today. If the Tigers are pissed if the Twins end up winning the division, then they should have just beat the f***ing Royals.
  23. Great...we're trading our best infield prospect in years for a reliever who had a 3.62 ERA at the best pitcher's park in baseball.
  24. Vazquez on his way to capping off his disappointing season. Also, is anyone else disturbed that Anderson looks as the bad at the plate right now as he did to start the year? I know he improved for a few months, but he's given Ozzie no reason lately for him to favor him going into next season. Anderson has no one to blame but himself if KW goes out and acquires a new CF this offseason.
