  1. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 05:17 PM) If I was the cubs management, I would try my hardest to get Gardy from the twins. I think he is one of the most underrated managers in the game. Yes...he was awesome this wknd.
  2. QUOTE(Wealz @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 04:59 PM) He probably does have a say, but he isn't accountable for who is on the team. Kenny Williams must think the pros of Mackowiak playing center outweigh the cons or he would have found someone else to share time with Anderson. I think it has more to do with Ozzie/KW not wanting to have to get rid of someone like Ozuna or Gload.
  3. QUOTE(Wealz @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 04:46 PM) If Mackowiak isn't good enough to play 2 or 3 times a week in center, he isn't good enough to play center at all. Kenny Williams dealt Guillen this hand. I can't believe that you think Ozzie has no say about who is, and isn't, on this team.
  4. Impressive homer for Fields to center field against one of the best relievers in the minors, Salas.
  5. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 03:27 AM) Who the hell is this Gary Bennett? Babe Bennett
  6. QUOTE(stretchstretch @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 02:55 AM) With the sickening feeling I took to bed last night after that heartbreaking loss, I spent some time today reflecting upon how many things fell into place last year and how spending nearly a month's pay to fly in from the west coast and take my father to games 1&2 of the WS brought memories I'll take to my grave. I then stepped back and realized how unrealistic it is of me to expect a repeat of next year, with record setting 1-run wins, a pitching staff all having simultaneous career years, and almost perfect chemistry in the clubhouse, when considering how difficult it is simply to make the playoffs two years in a row, for anybody except the one team spending $250M per year. Ozzie makes a lot of mistakes, players go through highs and lows throughout the season, and the GMs moves don't always pan out (the gamble on Thome that no one else would take paid in spades, Vasquez did not). All in all we're still right in it, MN still has to play a month of baseball better than us, and there are about 4 very real possible outcomes (though all not equally probably), including MN taking the division, us taking the division, or Detroit not even making the playoffs. There's going to be moments of confidence and despair in the coming month, but I have to be patient and not over react because we might just win the WC by a 1/2 game and then win three straight series. No one on this site believed last Sept 25th that we were going to make the playoffs (and the Sox gave them every reason to feel that way), let alone go 11-1 through Bos, LAA, and Hous.......... Detroit's 10 game lead shrank to 5.5 in a few days, our lead over MN evaporated in days, we both face Bos, NY, Det, Oak, and LAA, no one has a clue how this crazy thing might go??? One of the best posts I've read on this site in a long time.
  7. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 02:18 AM) I want their money. Simplest question to ask a Sox fan to see if they are serious or not....who do you want up in the clutch? Jim Thome or Joe Crede. Their answer to that question pretty much determines it for me. What if I say Geoff Blum?
  8. QUOTE(Wealz @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 01:47 AM) Guillen has been nothing short of extraordinary in developing Anderson this year. Anderson was lost at the plate for much of the first half of the season. To make the transition to being the tough out he's become is remarkable. His development remains a work-in-progress, but kudos to Ozzie for understanding how important Anderson is to the near future of this team and not throwing him completely into the fire. I've always learned that if a player is going well, you keep playing him. Maybe I was just taught wrong.
  9. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 01:40 AM) Is there anything better than having your 2nd best starter rot in the bullpen? Isn't it amazing that the Twins amazing run started once they moved their 2nd best starter from the bullpen into the rotation?
  10. The only other person that I've heard use the excuse that Ozzie is trying to shelter Anderson from good pitchers is Chris Rongey.
  11. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 11:27 PM) That manager of the year trophy is going to look real good on Girardi's resume this offseason. I give it about 3 months before he's named the Cubs manager.
  12. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 09:37 PM) This is true about Sunday, Jackie. However, I've noticed over the last couple weeks that a White Sox loser thread fills up much, much quicker than a White Sox winner thread. Anyway, it's not that big a deal. There's a lot more "debating" back and forth during the loser threads.
  13. Today was as much of a must-win game as you can have in late August. Great job by Buehrle today, and our offense had some good balance.
  14. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 08:27 PM) I think that's all they have. I know...I was just making fun of Hunter for his hood comments from a few years ago. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 08:28 PM) Once again we are a playoff team, if the season ended today. NOT
  15. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 08:26 PM) That the Micky D Hook! Want some fries with that Torii? They don't have McDonald's in the hood.
  16. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 08:22 PM) id care more if he was in the hall of fame
  17. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 08:19 PM) DAY OFF TOMORROW!!! I think everyone associated with the White Sox, from the players to their fans, desperately need it.
  18. Oh boy....Crede's back is acting up again. Good catch whitesoxmanager.
  19. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 08:17 PM) idiot If he knows what's best for the Twins, he wants to keep Pods on the field as much as possible (even though he looked much more energetic today). QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 08:18 PM) are we going to hit someone in retaliation for AJs plunking? I hope not...let the scoreboard be our retaliation.
  20. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 08:15 PM) We might as well release him then. or just use him in mop-up duty. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 08:16 PM) Blyleven takes offense to Pods stealing and says he should be hit in the wrist the next time they play the Sox. I'm almost positive that the Twins were stealing when they were up 5-0 yesterday.
  21. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 08:11 PM) Cotts with a short leash. No way, you don't even put yourself in a position where you give the other team a chance due to trying to get your worst pitcher some confidence. Let either MacDougal or Thornton try to finish this one out.
