  1. Garcia is exactly the type of pitcher that the Yankees could use right now.
  2. Phil Rogers is making his case for why the Cubs should trade ARam and J. Jones for ARod. We don't have the pieces to trade the Yanks to get ARod, as we don't have a 3rd baseman to give back (we'd be trading ARod to play SS). Personally, I think Tejada would be so much of a better "blockbuster" guy to try and trade for.
  3. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 02:52 AM) Did anyone else notice the lack of enthusiasm in Garland's demeanor in the throw? Some people are saying, "Sometimes you miss, blah blah blah, he tried," but I thought it was clear in his demeanor that he wasn't trying very hard, and wouldn't mind missing. Jon Garland never shows enthusiasm on the mound. It's been something that's frustrated a lot of Sox fans over the year. Judging by where the two pitches ended up, there's no doubt that Garland tried his best to hit Kinsler in the leg.
  4. I couldn't agree more. Tomorrow's game is huge for us. You don't want to lose the first game, and then have Santana lurking in game 2.
  5. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 02:17 AM) YEAH!!!!!!! HIGH FIVE!!!!!!!! WOO-HOO!!! We just won the Series!!! We've played about as bad as possible, against the toughest stretch of our schedule, and we still have a 2.5 lead in the Wild Card. We could be in a hell of a lot worse position than we are right now.
  6. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 02:12 AM) Listening to Farmer and Singelton on XM today it sounded like Ozzie was telling Jon Garland that he din't want him hitting anyone and that the Sox needed him. If in fact Garland was going after the hitter at least he was showing support for his team. I don't think Ozzie was yelling at Garland for NOT hitting the guy. What is everyone elses take on it? Of course Garland was told to hit the batter. Any talk about it being otherwise is just trying to make it look like our pitcher wasn't ordered to throw at someone (and save face with MLB).
  7. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 02:09 AM) But this is certainly Kenny's style. Keep trading to get back players you've once had. Has Alomar Jr. passed Carl Everett's record yet? Or maybe to bring in players that you know will be a strong force in your clubhouse and be a professional on and off the field.
  8. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 02:08 AM) Uribe is safe. Maybe Podsednik isn't, but there's no way Uribe is going to go. Was the Garland-berating shown on Sportscenter? It'll probably be on BBTN or on Sportscenter later, right? Uh, I'd intended to post that about Garland in the Sox Catch-All, but accidentally clicked this, so I'll just leave it unless someone else decides it's better elsewhere. Yes, I saw the Garland clip again on SprotsCenter earlier. They showed a brief clip of it, and you see Dye/Thome walking closer to it in order to break it up if needed.
  9. I think it's safe to say that no one is safe on this roster right now. For some crazy reason, I think that KW's comments about forgetting about 2005 were directed at either our LF or SS.
  10. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 01:00 AM) Note I said his ceiling is comparable to Gary Majewski. Minor League relievers are a dime a dozen to a point. Losing such a player is not a huge deal. Some will work out. Some won't. Didn't R. Meaux have great numbers last year?
  11. QUOTE(korntownballa @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 12:34 AM) he [podsednick] is becoming a liability on the field and isn't producing the way they expected the table setter to ----------------------------------- are you kidding me? podz is actually having a better year at this time then he did last year (except for the SB).. he has more HR, more RBIs, about the saem BA, and better OBP. That still doesn't mean he's a good player.
  12. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 10:59 PM) That tells me the staff wasn't very happy with the pre game work he did with the pitchers prior to starts, if not more. And makes the addition of Sandy seem more likely.
  13. Check out the Widger reaction thread for some strong words.
  14. Lack of game preparation is quite a strong statement by the Sox.
  15. QUOTE(CySox @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 10:41 PM) No, I always thought Rongey was an idiot. I personally can't stand him, and I think he is one of the worst pre/post game guys the sox have had. I wish we could bring back the guy from last year. His names escapes me right now... Duck
  16. QUOTE(CySox @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 10:35 PM) please change the title of this thread. It is not official that Alomar is back. The only source we have is Chris Rongy, speculating that we got Alomar. He'd know better than anyone else. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 10:36 PM) I want to point out that Alomar has caught just once since May 1st for one of the Dodgers front line starters and most of his starters came from a combo of Perez (whose awful), Tomko (who has pitched surprisingly decent and was alright in Alomar's starts) and Sele (who had one good and one bad with Alomar Jr). Most of the runs allowed came from Baez who has been terrible with whoever caught up. Great research
  17. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 10:33 PM) At least Thome will have another guy to party with. And Hawk will go on and on about how the 90s Indians were the greatest offense ever (that didn't include Yaz, Jim Rice, etc.). QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 10:34 PM) Any word on who we gave up? Broadway
  18. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 10:32 PM) Alomar is one guy you would like to see whiff more often. His consistent contact a lot of times bring up the numbers 6-4-3. I can remember quite a few games where he hit into a walk-off double play. Luckily, one of those was when he was on the Indians, and it was against Foulke.
  19. QUOTE(CySox @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 10:26 PM) Wasn't widger hitting like .280-.300 in his first 60 ab's? He was hitting around .300, but I think he's 0 for his last 25.
  20. QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 10:21 PM) at least he can lay a bunt down.... Ha....amazing post!!
  21. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 10:18 PM) Better offensively, neither are great defensively, but Alomar is the much more savvy veteran, imo. I realize Widge is a veteran as well, but he's not nearly as respected around the baseball world as Sandy is. The ONLY positive I see on the field is that Alomar is difficult to strike out. I didn't think it was possible though, but we actually decrease our team speed with this deal. Hopefully Alomar will be able to do something that Widger couldn't, and that's catch the damn ball on a play at the plate.
  22. From what I was told, we tried to get Jake Taylor to come out of retirement.
  23. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 10:12 PM) In what way is this an upgrade over Widger? He'll make more contact. However, I think he also likes to wear shades at the plate.
  24. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 10:06 PM) So let me get this straight, Alomar has a higher CERA than Widger and the Dodgers have won all of 1 game with him starting? That's just terrific. We better not have given up anyone even remotely decent in order to get him. I'm surprised the Dodgers hadn't released him yet after trading for Hall.
  25. QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 10:05 PM) SA Jr. has a 6.09 CERA this year I mentioned this earlier, but the Dodgers were 1-12 in games he started. I've seen him try to throw some guys out on the bases this year, and he was 2 hopping the ball to 2nd base.
