Widger should have been able to keep that in front of him.

Good job Thornton. I wonder if Ozzie is saving Cotts for a potentially closing outing if we get a lead?

QUOTE(YASNY @ May 7, 2006 -> 08:07 PM) Nobody would have expected Ozuna to be successful in his attempt to get back. But, you have to try and force them to actually make the play. But what if the pitcher drops the ball, and Ozuna has changed direction? Then, he's in a pickle, and you don't score that run. I see your point though, and it's something that you don't see in baseball too often.

Ugh....another hanging slider by Cliff. Lucky it stayed in the park.

Good INSIDE fastball.

QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ May 7, 2006 -> 08:03 PM) the issue is the effort back to 3rd not the suicide being tentative or not. by the time the pitcher caught it ozuna wasnt across home. he decided to take 3 more steps and give himself up. IMO he had time to make a play back at third. look im not on the field and maybe im wrong but little things matter! If Ozuna would have had the ability to just quickly pivot and run back to 3rd, then he's playing the wrong sport. Barry Sanders would be proud of that footwork.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 7, 2006 -> 08:03 PM) Wish we'd take Cliff out here to be honest. If he pitches like he did last inning he might get rocked and it'd be nice for him to leave with some confidence. Brown's been swinging the bat fairly well this series.

QUOTE(YASNY @ May 7, 2006 -> 08:02 PM) What? That argument makes no sense. Pablo stood there and waited to be tagged. If he attempts to get back to 3rd, then MAYBE a throwing error happens. By running back, he forces a throw where something COULD happen. Waiting for the tag eliminated any risk of an error. That's true, but I disagreed with manager cause he made it seem like it was a case of Ozuna not hustling. Basically, once the squeezed is popped up in the air, you're screwed.

QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ May 7, 2006 -> 07:57 PM) why doesnt someone tell juan to just wait an extra second, then swing. I think he's the only person at the park who didn't know a changeup was coming.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ May 7, 2006 -> 07:52 PM) No. He has a point. If Ozuna would have turned and sprinted back toward 3rd, the pitcher might have thrown the ball down the line. You have to make them make the play without just giving up on it. It's hard though to judge the ball off the bat. Ozuna is focusing just as much on the plate as he is to where the ball goes. By that time, he's so far down the line, he has no chance to get back. With all of his momentum heading towards home, by the time the pitcher catches it, Ozuna would still be 60 feet off of 3rd base.

Got away with a hanger to Graffy, but we'll take the results.

QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ May 7, 2006 -> 07:47 PM) he is dead to rights when he is out. look this is a very little thing but definitely something that ozzie will address to his team. he doesnt overlook even these little things. at least that is my take on how baseball should be played and the type of manager ozzie is. No offense manager, but you're wrong here. The last thing a runner on 3rd can do in that situation is be tentative. If the squeeze is called, it's either going to work or it's an easy, easy out.
-
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ May 7, 2006 -> 07:44 PM) Ozuna was pretty much dead-to-rights. Calling for the squeeze was the mistake. He has absolutely no chance in that situation. You might as well hope that the defense drops the ball then. I didn't like the call, but shockingly, I understand why Ozzie did it. Iguchi's normally a very good bunter.

Politte pitching with Widger catching....a match made in outside pitch heaven.

Has anyone heard an update about Dye?

Another amazing AB by Mackowiak.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 7, 2006 -> 07:37 PM) That was not one of Jim's better ab's. These might be the worst swings I've seen in a game between Thome and PK that I've seen all year.

QUOTE(YASNY @ May 7, 2006 -> 07:34 PM) I didn't realize that was you, in particular. I was just commenting on the fact that someone was missed that never even played on the Sox. I didn't comment on it because you made the post. Fair enough. And to be honest, I hadn't even looked at Gio's stats until I saw that thread, and thought about him. I was more surprised that there hadn't been any posts about him (for the record, I loved the Thome trade).
-
That will possibly be it for Buehrle. Lets get some runs so Politte can get us some outs.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 7, 2006 -> 07:32 PM) Yeesh, too the track in right. Huber's a strong kid. I thought that was gone off the bat. Politte's warming up.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ May 7, 2006 -> 07:29 PM) Those aren't jabs, they're counter punches. I still don't understand why you had to "point out" to me that Gio was never on the Sox last season. All I mentioned was that he's the person that I miss the most in the organization, as he's been great again this season. I didn't mention anything in that thread about it, as there's no reason to start bickering.
-
QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ May 7, 2006 -> 07:29 PM) ozuna should have at least attempted to get back to third...he gave up on that play....other than that he is a stud! No chance. You have to commit to the guy getting the bunt down. That's why it's called a suicide.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ May 7, 2006 -> 07:27 PM) Must have been one our subs that popped that bunt up. You don't get the argument, do you? It's all about rhythm with your lineup, and that's what we've had with our starters. The typical starting lineup has a great mixture of power, contact hitters, and defense. The more you go to the bench, the more you lose that rhythm. If we had more success with the 3 bench lineup this season, then many on us wouldn't be complaining about it.
-
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ May 7, 2006 -> 07:26 PM) Smallball is so f***ing stupid. We had 1 out. I'll be happy if we don't bunt again the rest of the season.
