QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 14, 2006 -> 01:08 PM) Wow, Cena has never come off as that kind of prima donna to me. Nope, absolutely not. Some of the people I know associated with the business have always thought of him as one of the good guys in the profession.

QUOTE(Felix @ Apr 14, 2006 -> 07:07 PM) Bobby Jenks? It wasn't fat....IT WAS MUSCLE!

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 14, 2006 -> 07:06 PM) It was also reported that he came to camp out of shape and doesn't put the work in to be the best player he can be. No thanks. Let him go to the Yankees, he sounds like a perfect fit for them. I'm not going to complain about his work ethic when he's on one of the worst rosters in the history of baseball. I'm sure that being on a great team and with Ozzie as his manager would solve a lot of issues. Going from Pro Player to the Cell would make him even more dangerous. And yes, I know it's not likely going to happen. I just don't think you can count us out thanks to the Ozzie factor.

QUOTE(Felix @ Apr 14, 2006 -> 07:01 PM) I think I would die if we got him. Seriously, he'd be a perfect fit in Chicago (even though there were rumors about him being an ass in the locker room awhile ago) I think Ozzie would welcome the challenge with Cabrera (who's Venezuelan, I think). Also, Ozzie was with the Marlins when he came up. If we got Cabrera for LF, I wouldn't be upset if we let Buehrle go via FA, and put Fields at 3b for Crede.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 14, 2006 -> 06:56 PM) Let me correct my statement: Any relevant Sox player I can remember. Wells, Paniagua and Walker were not relevant. Wells was a fat turd who did nothing. Paniagua lasted what, one game and Kevin Walker hardly pitched. Billy Koch was in a primary position...and boy did he suck.
-
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 14, 2006 -> 06:52 PM) He can rot for all I care, I probably hate him more than any Sox player I've seen in my life. JOSE PANIAGUA! Also, David Wells and Kevin Walker have a special place in Sox history for suckiness.
-
I know this is probably the wrong thread for this, but with the rumors that Miguel Cabrera might be on the market this coming offseason, it will be interesting to see if Ozzie and company try to make a run at him. He'd be the perfect long-term fit for LF.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 14, 2006 -> 06:46 PM) Sad how people are bailing on Podsednik this quickly. It really is. Once he gets healthy or works back into playing shape, he'll be fine. Here's a question to ponder: Will Pods ever get back to 100 pct? He wouldn't be the first premiere base stealer to having lingering leg injuries completely rob him of his ability to steal bases at a high rate.

QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Apr 14, 2006 -> 04:26 PM) How soon people forget that he hist a walk-off in the World Series, against one of the best closers in the game. How soon people forget the pansy-ass throw he had in the top of the 9th that allowed the Astros to tie the game! In all seriousness, the bottom line is that we need more production from Pods. He just looks so uncomfortable on the field right now, it's very disturbing. It's too bad that we don't have any other leadoff/LF options.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 14, 2006 -> 02:47 PM) hmm, I heard that Freels problems were more coke-related than alcohol related. I second this statement

QUOTE(My Dixie Normus @ Apr 14, 2006 -> 07:33 AM) I am not a fan of the Hawk. I have met him on several occasions and my opinion of him is confirmed everytime. He has a huge ego. Quite an ironic statement coming from someone with your screen name.

I watched the game on tape when I got home, and Garland's offspeed pitchers were terrible. Not only were they up in the zone, his curve and change-up were just extremely flat. He doesn't have a good enough fastball to be a one pitch pitcher.

QUOTE(Sam @ Apr 14, 2006 -> 04:12 AM) Imagine how great the Jayhawks will be in 2 years when Chalmers, Rush and Chicago Heights native Julian Wright all stay for their junior year. That is, however, a big if. By the way, did anyone ever catch one of Homewood-Flossmoor's games when Wright played there? Yep, saw quite a few of his games. He was good, but never a big scorer. -
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 11:51 PM) A simple answer would be, "why risk a starter to injury when the game is in hand?" But, I'm sure you could have gone around the infield and could have made the same, if not better, cases for those starters. So, my answer would be something along the lines of, "why risk a starter to injury that is still bothered by a nagging injury." Which of the two makes more sense to you? The answer lies somewhere between those two. Here's the biggest problem: It's brutally obvious that Pods just is a terrible baseball player when he's not 100 pct. We saw signs of this last year, and he's just been flat out awful so far this year. However, we don't have anyone that we can really place in LF for him to start on a regular basis. It's a tough call for KW and Ozzie....and I think it's a damn shame to mildly negate a red-hot 2/3/4 like we have right now.

This is an unsual type of post for me, but it's very encouraging that this team could EASILY be 8-1.

I think it's safe to say that Thome deserves a standing ovation tomorrow.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 08:17 PM) Anyone who wasnt actaully watching the game should not comment on how Thornton pitched. He looked VERY good. Tony....I didn't see him pitch, and I my comment was in regards to THORNTON being on the mound. Rather, I thought it would be a good situation for Cotts to try and get the final 3 outs of the game. He hasn't had a lot of experience with that. I do like that Ozzie kept Thornton in to face Granderson though. Politte vs Granderson has already backfired once for us. -

You know...as a south suburban resident, I've always liked Curtis Granderson. -

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 08:17 PM) He pitched extremely well. Same could have happened to Cotts. Yeah, but if Ozzie wanted to give Cotts some closing experience, this would have been a perfect situation. -

QUOTE(heirdog @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 08:05 PM) Anyone worried about an inexperienced bullpen guy like BMac getting overused a la Cotts and Adkins in 2004? They were pretty good all season until they just hit a wall in August. Could that happen to BMac pitching multiple innings every other day? There's one huge difference between McCarthy and the Cotts/Adkins version of 2004. McCarthy is good, and he has the command/stuff to get MLB hitters out consistently. -

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 08:02 PM) K, now its time for Optomstic Tony. Its amazing that we scored 13 runs, 15 hit outburst in Comerica, and our LF and CF have zero hits. Just imagine when they do start to hit. O ya, and Anderson cant field. :rolly BTW Tony, I've been saying for a week now that I can't wait to see what will happen once we start to get more production from the 9/1 spot. I think it's great that we've found a way to win this week with such liabilities at that position. Also, I think Anderson is a fine fielder. I figured that since he dropped that ball yesterday....maybe I could just get by with the comparison. -

QUOTE(AbeFroman @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 08:02 PM) ozzie is very walter matthau-esque (coach buttermaker)... nice comparison Eagerly awaiting someone to compare Jon Garland to Tatum O'Neal's character.
