  1. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 07:14 AM) Of course the obvious question is why bother with a Geoff Blum trade rumor. Exactly. The move makes perfect sense for both teams, as the Padres have no need for Blum with Loretta and Randa added to the mix recently. I'll state that I think it's 98 pct legit.
  2. Now that I know Blum is better vs rhp than lhp, this move is even more solid to me. We don't need a 2b or 3b vs lhp. However, he could give up support against tough righties. Both Crede and Iguchi struggle with the righty slider, so Blum could give those guys some rest vs those types of pitchers.
  3. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 07:06 AM) Huh? On MLB.com 'splits' page for Blum, I see him having about a .265 OBP vs. lefties (there's two rows for lefties, dunno why) in 75 ABs this year. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/stats/indivi...0398&statType=1 Well, lets just say the stats I was looking at were wrong. Kudos for calling me out on it.
  4. Anyone else find it hillarious that so many are b****ing about this already? First, Willie Harris doesn't deserve to be on this team. This will get his ass sent to the minors finally. Next, we needed a back-up 3b. Problem solved. I know everyone has their hopes set on Huff....but we're not the only team going after him, and their asking price is INSANE.
  5. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 07:01 AM) Here's something I came across. http://www.fanstop.com/public/mlbboards/pa....cgi?read=92992 I hope this is bulls***. If this is bulls***, there's a lot of people involved in this hoax.
  6. According to what I read, the Padres postgame said they're just waiting for confirmation. However, they say it's a done deal.
  7. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 06:52 AM) Yippee. Career line of .253/.317/.396. Pretty useless vs. lefties. So, another guy who can hit righties. Ross Gload says hi? I swear... if any of these prospects are remotely considered 'prospects', than Kenny deserves a beating. He's hitting lefties better than he is righties this season. What some people don't realize is that this guy can play both 3b and 2b. His OPS is abouat 175 pts higher than Willie Harris. Assuming we don't give up too much, I don't have a problem with this trade. It's a definite boost to our bench (including a switch hitter who has some pop from the right side ).
  8. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 06:42 AM) If true, Mackowiak is gonna be a non-White Sox member come tomorrow I'll sleep fine at night without his 4-35 since the ASB coming here.
  9. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 06:43 AM) Nothing like another low BA, low OBP guy for the team. He has a terrible June, but his numbers have been quite good besides that month. Don't forget he had to hit in that monsterous park. I'd rather have Blum than Willie, I'll tell you that.
  10. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 06:41 AM) I would rather have Macowiak. WTF We don't know what the asking price for Mackowiak is. Lets wait to find out who the 2 minor league guys we traded were. I don't mind this deal at all, as long as none of our main prospects were involved.
  11. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 06:39 AM) This makes NO sense. It makes total sense. He's a back-up 2nd base/3rd base guy, who's a switch hitter. See ya Willie! He had a terrible June, but he's been very solid every other month.
  12. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 06:36 AM) Ya, I saw this and I'm confused. Sounds legit to me.
  13. Rumor has it that the Sox traded 2 minor leaguers for Blum.
  14. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 06:33 AM) From the Padres? meh I hope not. Padres fans say it was announced during the postgame radio after their game tonight. For 2 minor leaguers.
  15. BTW, there's a rumor going around we just traded for G. Blum. Not sure if it's true.
  16. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 06:28 AM) Explain....? Check the Knights schedule. They're playing at Durham from Monday until Wednesday. It was just a little joke.
  17. I have it on good authority that McCarthy will be playing at the home field of the Durham Bulls this coming week (Tampa's AAA team).
  18. BTW, the Cubs are reportedly interested in Huff and Baez.
  19. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 06:06 AM) julio lugo? i like, a good utility infielder we've been wanting off the bench And if Timo gets out of line, he can beat the s*** out of him and slam his head into a car.
  20. Just so I'm on the record: I'd rather just trade for Huff, and not get Baez. However, I'm sure Tampa will make a team take both guys, so they can get more prospects.
  21. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 06:02 AM) i'm slowly starting to warm up to huff. I don't care what his numbers say.....he's one of the best hitters in the AL. He typically racks up a ton of extra base hits, and I've seen him get a lot of hits against very good pitchers (especially J. Santana). He's be the best lefty hitter we've had in a long time.
  22. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 06:01 AM) Thats why getting Huff NOW makes the trade that much more important. Couldn't agree more. I think it's obvious PK is gone after this year. Thus, it's either Huff at 1b, or probably moving Dye to 1b. I'd be pretty content with both.
  23. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 06:01 AM) That is true. But some seem to think he always was and STILL is on the market? Either way, they will get a lot for him when they are ready to deal him. That guy has talent! Brewers still have an outside chance at the WC. I believe they're only 6.5 games out right now. Overbay is the fan favorite there also. He's not going anywhere, and I wouldn't be shocked if he's there for a few more years (I know they've discussed the outfield with him, I think he might be too slow though).
  24. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 05:58 AM) Overbay? Although he is supposedly off the market... He never was on the market. Brewers would be foolish to trade him now. They'd get a lot more value for him if they trade him in the offseason, when more teams are looking to upgrade at 1b. PK will be the class of the FA 1b market....and after that, it's awful. Overbay will be in high demand.
  25. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 05:56 AM) I'd still like a blockbuster trade getting a middle of the order bat But doesn't look like that's happening, so i'll be willing to settle for a huff type situation i guess. In this market, Huff is the biggest blockbuster middle of the order guy you could get that wouldn't set your team back financially for years to come.
