  1. QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ May 28, 2005 -> 03:29 AM) we need a guy who gets walks, reaches base, aka frank thomas, and thats it, if dye isnt hitting lately or everett then we trade them for preston wilson who is well rounded and can play all outfield and fits into our small ball system, and its just as easy to hit in the cell just as it is with coors Preston Wilson fits the smallball style? Wow
  2. no matter what happens this AB, just remember: OMIT TIMO!
  3. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 28, 2005 -> 02:24 AM) My point is you've got so down on this team when they lose 2 or 3 in a row, they're in a stretch where they're playing very good teams while in a hitting slump and still a bit over .500 during this stretch. We don't have to blow this team up after every mini losing streak. Like I said I bet Jon and Mark win these next two then all will be right with the world. Even if we won the next two games, by a score of 3-1 and 2-0....I'd still say we have serious issues with this team.
  4. We're the Dodgers of a few years ago. The problem with that is we play in a hitter's park. Once it gets warm out, it's going to be tough to continue to beat teams 3-2 at the Cell.
  5. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 28, 2005 -> 02:17 AM) Ahh, a few weeks ago you were asking us if we really though this team was a superior team cause they lost 3 in a row, then they started winning again. Last week same crap, sox start winning again. So of course a 2 game winning streak brings out the same junk, they've been the best team in baseball since mid april and they still are, hitting slump or not. I said I didn't think we were a superior team, and the main reason I said that was because I didn't think we would consistently be able to win 3-2 games, etc. over the course of the season. Hell, I even said I didn't think we were a superior team when some of our guys were still hitting. Our recent pathetic hitting performances have done nothing to make me think otherwise. Until we stop have 3 or 4 easy out batters in our lineup, we're not going to be a good offensive teams. It's sad to think of the days when Royce Clayton and his .250 avg was considered mediocre.
  6. QUOTE(Brian @ May 28, 2005 -> 02:14 AM) Carl's swing looks awful. Big long hacks and his head just goes flying. A MLB hitter should never, ever miss as many fastball as Everett has lately.
  7. Anyone who thinks this team is actually the best in baseball right now, regardless of record, is insane. We don't get hits, don't take walks, don't run the bases well, and don't hit for consistent power.
  8. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ May 28, 2005 -> 02:03 AM) Dunno, didn't see it, I came late and just read "bunt hit". But w/ everyone hitting like s***, with a lineup full of .230 hitters, I think it's interesting that the scapegoat is a guy who's hitting close to .280 and at least got on base, in a way that most people here would cheer loudly if it were some other players. When did anyone say he was the scapegoat? I have a much bigger problem with the approach that Everett, Rowand, and even AJP and Pods have right now at the plate. PK and Dye still have crappy AB, but they're putting up the power numbers that are expected of them right now. Don't even get me started on Crede and Uribe though.
  9. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 28, 2005 -> 02:00 AM) Umm well he got on base? Yikes now we are b****ing about guys getting on base. No..no...no. I definitely wasn't complaining about Willie getting on base. I was just saying that he's as guilty as anyone for our s***ty offense tonight.
  10. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ May 28, 2005 -> 01:57 AM) Willie's one of the handful of players w/ a hit in this game, and he's the problem? You mean the bunt hit that should have been an error on the pitcher?
  11. Instead of Willie s***ball, it should be Willie "4-3" Harris.
  12. Rowand is now hitting below .225 against RHP. He seems to get jammed or strike out on pitches in the dirt almost every AB against a RHP.
  13. McCarthy gave up 4 homers, and Texas could have easily hit about 3 more. They were hitting him very hard, and had some deep fly outs. McCarthy has got to get some sink on his fastball, as it's extremely hittable.
  14. QUOTE(JimH @ May 28, 2005 -> 01:33 AM) Ok, this one is just about over. McCarthy will be done at 5 innings, he was much more timid in this game vs. the game he threw in Wrigley, I suspect it's because he'd faced these guys before in Tucson and they torched him. The Cubs will make any pitcher look better than they are.
  15. QUOTE(He_Gawn @ May 28, 2005 -> 01:27 AM) We start to lose and some of you guys act like f***ing idiots. It's not because we're losing, it's the way we're losing and the offense that comes with it. No one in their right mind can actually think our particular offense, even with Frank included, is good enough to win the division over the course of the entire season.
  16. See you in 2007 McCarthy.
  17. QUOTE(Princess Dye @ May 28, 2005 -> 01:23 AM) i'm starting to see why the ESPN 'haters' kept saying we cant hit... because we cant. We're not even coming close to sustaining big offensive innings. Something has to be done, but I have a feeling our management wont make any changes because of our record.
  18. First pitch fastballs down the f***ing plate won't get the job done against good hitting teams. Maybe if McCarthy was facing the Sox, he'd be in good shape.
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 28, 2005 -> 01:16 AM) I love how both Ozuna and Harris have fake/bunted themselves into 2 strike counts. Yeah, that's productive. That's what happens when you have a combined 4 homers in 926 career AB. What is this, the f***ing National League?
  20. It's not just that we're not scoring runs. It's also the fact that our players are having terrible ABs, and they're not hitting the ball very hard.
  21. QUOTE(chisox2334 @ May 28, 2005 -> 01:01 AM) ah dye pitch just missed it You're going to just miss a lot of balls if all you do is swing for the fences. It's like how Hawk says that Crede and PK always "just miss it" when the fly out. Dye does seem to be swinging better though.
  22. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 28, 2005 -> 12:51 AM) So........are people going to start admitting we have a serious problem in the batters box or are we gonna hear more of this "LA LA LA we have the best record LA LA LA"? You know the answer to that.
  23. I don't understand putting Uribe in the 2nd spot. Considering that our best offense lately has been when Pods got on base, and we're able to get him in.....it just doesn't make sense having a number 2 batter who is in a horrible slump.
  24. QUOTE(qwerty @ May 28, 2005 -> 12:46 AM) Nearly every hispanic player can't lay off of the high fast ball but they are still on a major league roster. Maybe we should send all of them done to work on laying off of them? Qwerty.....there's a huge difference between a hitter swinging at too many high pitches, and a pitcher who leaves the ball up in the zone. Again, I'm not saying McCarthy can't be something special. It's just that right now, as young as he is, he needs more seasoning in the minors.
