2018 White Sox draft picks and signings thread
Sorry I don't have a link, but I did see a scout with a great track record of about eight major leaguers really went to bat for him. He came in a couple rounds earlier than ranking. Maybe a little savings?????

The White Sox have lost the most strikes in baseball
There is also a component of this on the pitchers command. If the catcher never has to move his mitt on a slightly off the edge pitch, he may get the call. If the catcher sets up outside and has to dive/move significantly inside to catch a pitch, even though it may be over the plate it will often be called a ball.

I wonder if the recent cool bats in W-S have any effect on Eloy going to Charlotte. Who would you replace him with? Hard to move up guys who are in the midst of a struggle.

2018 MLB Draft
Wonder if this is a year you may be on the clock and on the phone with more than one player rep and say " What is your lowest $ to sign at this pick?"

FS: We've Suffered Enough - Call Up Eloy
Doing something for the fans is the worst reason to make a baseball move. While he might succeed in the majors now that is not guaranteed. With that said, he has earned a promotion to AAA. His performance there should dictate his arrival time to MLB. If you are within days of super two, it probably makes sense to let that pass.

Sox have team meeting after game
If these guys are somewhere and meet someone, they probably introduce themselves as a "professional baseball player". I see no problem expecting them to act/fulfill the first part. You can't always control outcomes, but you can control attitude, effort, and preparation. It is actually hard to maximize those three things in a losing culture. We have a lot of guys who haven't been there before and many who shouldn't be there now but this is the sad part of the rebuild. You really need Jose and the few vets to hold guys accountable to playing the game the right way. Ricky has talked about playing the White Sox way and that is being tested. Some of these players are getting what may be their only chance in MLB. They should be busting ass. The minimum salary is still a lot more than what flipping burgers makes.

2018 MLB Draft
#50 Kris Bubic LHP Stanford is listed as a senior. Is that someone who gets taken and due to being a senior is signed way under slot freeing up money for others? If so, I wonder if someone with a lot of comp picks might take him a bit early.
- Welington Castillo to be suspended 80 games for PED, per Rosenthal

Leury to DL, Gonzalez and Tilson up
After digging, for those wondering, Castillo doesn't count against the 40 man roster while suspended. Think he can actually do 15 days in minors prior to coming back as well. So no-one has to be dropped from 40 man to add Gonzalez.

Did we see history?
Stat heads I need help. With at least 100AB in a season, did Engel have the lowest batting average to have a 4-4 night? I give him grief but would like to recognize him if he has done something historic. He also has been streaky in the minors so maybe we are going to see a good stretch for him.

Abreu- does he stay or go?
The front load only works if there isn't an opt out which he will probably have several. Frankly, any big star coming here probably requires opt outs in case rebuild not working and/or it is to their advantage.

Sadly, I fear he may be this bad a hitter.

2018 MLB Draft
Would you take a chance on Mize if you knew TJ surgery was very likely? At slot or under or pass?

2018 MLB Draft
I would think/hope that swing tracking technology (used a lot in golf) is done in practice sessions and preseason especially where you could try different bats and lengths. The weight/mass of a bat also impacts the speed and control as it is easier to accelerate or decelerate a lighter object than a heavier one. Many anecdotes of players going to a lighter bat when tired/later in the season. Nowdays you don't have to guess or feel if it is different, you can get objective data. You should be able to find the optimum speed mass setup to produce the most force/power. Thinking back I remember........force= mass x acceleration Sorry if hijacking. I have heard our minor league pitchers talk about being given pitching data. It would be interesting to hear if our hitters are doing higher tech stuff. At one time, it was high tech for all guys to get eye exams, know routine.
