8/21/2017 Twins @ White Sox
He doesn't seem to have any command nor any true put away pitch that I am seeing. He is getting to some two strike counts but failure to locate is killing him.

Ouch! That was crushed.

A Star is Born
He may need the struggle to realize he has to adjust/change something. If you are doing well it is harder to change.

Leury Garcia
He doesn't have the track record at this point to make me commit 25 million to him. I let him show me at least the first half of the year. He could then be extended or a valuable flip. This is his fifth year appearing in MLB. Age 26 and the first he has had any success. His OPS this year is .788, previously his best year was .614. His upside if he can continue to do this is very valuable. Zobrist has a career OPS of .784 , over 12 years has 42 WAR and earned 57 million with about 30 more guaranteed. Now this could be Leury's high point but let him show us. The first year of arbitration won't be that expensive. Revisit this discussion the middle of next year. Pretty much the same way I feel about Avi. If one or both are doing this well at next years deadline with 1.5 years of doing well, they will be very valuable trade pieces or you discuss extending.

Flores
Really scary video of a guy throwing first major league pitch for I think Seatle. Just got the glove up in time to prevent a full on facial. Very lucky.

Flores
Saw he left game in second due to injury and game thread said possibly hit by line drive. Figured it may get lost in that thread since few look after a day or so. Anyone have updated info?

Zack Collins/Eloy Jimenez promoted
Did Kopech throw in the instructional league last year? If so it won't be as much of a jump in innings.

Liriano IL POTW
After taking the fastball to the face, I am glad we have left him alone. Granted, he started so cold we couldn't rush him but next year will be big for him. Another one of the borderline guys who just may turn into something.

A Star is Born
I think it is possible that once the front office decided on a rebuild, they knew that Sale, due to his highly competitive nature, may not fare well on a really bad team especially one tanking. Q was always quiet and highly professional. While I think the constant trade rumors bothered Q, he never publicly complained. I don't know if Sale would have handled it as well. It really doesn't matter because once the decision to rebuild was made, they both had to go as they were the assets most likely to return important rebuild pieces. Eaton also had value. It was business and assets left as soon as the offers were judged to be adequate.

Sox vs Stros game 2
Our 3-5 hitters have no hits or rbi, we have 7 runs. Funny game baseball

Reds Claim DJ Peterson from White Sox
Davidson is fine as a placeholder. At one time, he was a good prospect. If he puts it together fine. If not, he won't hold anyone back.

Luis Robert out for at least 7 days
You hate to take aggressiveness and speed away from a guy but I would analyze his sliding to see if a technique issue and while working on it ban him from stealing in a game.

8-5 Games
combined line for the big 3, 18 ip, 10 hits, 0 ER, 5 walks, 30 strikeouts. Thats a night!!!

Lets Catch up from the last few Days
Our low levels are full of prospects. Upper levels there a smattering of prospects but a lot of filler. Gonna take awhile, longer than I had hoped.

Moncada/Willy Garcia leave game after collision
Garcia had surgery for a broken jaw out 4-6 weeks.

ITS ALIVE!!!
Holy crap my access just now came back. The last few days sucked! I need warning before this crap happens again, I didn't know what had happened. I spent so much deadline time on line, I may need help. Cold turkey withdrawal left me shaken.

White Sox trade deadline
I think we have several slots open on our 40 man roster. As these teams add players at the deadline, they may have to DFA someone who may be worth trying. They will probably have warts but should be no risk vs some reward. May find a interesting arm or two or a positional player with a interesting tool or two. The older prospect etc. This may be as good a return as we get for some of our last players.

Who Should Be In The Lineup Next Year?
I think we will need to sign several free agents for next year. We need to protect our young pitchers and not rush them ala Carson Fulmer. Shields seems ok as the veteran mentor and no one is going to take him so he stays. We will also have to replace a lot of other innings. We have several things to offer. 1) opportunity, that's easy to see 2) A great medical staff for those looking to bounce back 3) Don Cooper, again for bounce backs. 4) low payroll I am in no way suggesting we sign high level guys. You bottom feed and hope you find something. Also watch that we may be able to bring in some minor league free agents ala Q and give them their chance. All the people we acquire also should know if they do well, they could be pitching meaningful games late in the year as we will flip them. Every year, there are free agents who linger far longer than they expect. We can swoop in and buy low. We need several relievers as well. Let them compete, several one year deals , see who sticks and flips. As our young guys get ready none of these players will block them. I am not against bringing back Gonzales but I think he may get a better offer than I would give but I would keep the door open. Holland, we need his innings but I wonder if he could reestablish value as a reliever? At 6 million I am not willing to resign unless he shows he can still pitch this last part of the season or signs an incentive madden deal at lower dollars to pitch in relief.

Dan Jennings
MLB.com had Fox as a 50 FV which may be to good a prospect. Looking in the 45 pool they have some interesting LHP, Genesis Cabrera and Brock Burke (great names) who are far away projection wise or Ryan Yarbrough who is the older type (25 yo) at AAA who we might actually be able to use at the major league level.

Minor league coaching: get away from ex players
Not a bad thought. I think we should get the best people/person we can. It could be a old player who happens to use the new toys. Look how things have changed in golf with instant swing tracker analysis. The best have incorporated the new tech right into their teaching. We also need a consistent organizational teaching program. When we had Charlie Lau, all levels taught his philosophy. We also have to realize that some players may click with certain styles or teachers better than others so you still have to be adaptable. It would be interesting to see an interview with Getz or hitting coordinator where they discuss how we do things.

Matt Foster
QUOTE (Señor Ding-Dong @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 04:59 PM) Your username is BamaDoc and Foster's MiLB profile says he went to Alabama. Do you know anything about his stuff/repertoire, perhaps from watching him in college? His stats are good, but it's a small sample size and I don't know anything about him. Considering he was a late round pick, I doubt there's much info on him out there. Nice pickup but I am a bit older. My son was at UA then but doesn't have anything to add. The affiliation did catch my attention. The lower levels have had a bunch of closers/late inning guys doing well. I realize they would probably by lesser prospects than starters but hey I am all for finding diamonds.
