  1. There's always Josh Willingham though I'm sure the price for him is higher than even that of Dunn.
  2. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 04:27 PM) If the DBacks throw in Adam LaRoche, do you bite if you're the Sox? Also, give reasons please Not a fan of Edwin Jackson, I'm not paying $8.35M and Daniel Hudson for a starter with an xFIP consistently in the mid 4's, that's a mid to back of the rotation starter. Personally, I haven't lost faith in Gordon, I see him as a future franchise player and he's under team control for another 5 years, Kelly Johnson on the other hand is a typically good offensive player (~.345 wOBA) and a mediocre defensive 2B under team control for 1 more year (at around $5M-$6M, maybe more), personally I see Beckham outperforming him next year (all around) and possibly even this season the rest of the way. I like Johnson but I'm not giving up incredibly valuable assets to acquire him. Throwing in an Adam LaRoche rental changes very little. You really have to look at the future value of your young players: Beckham 5 more seasons (3 very cheap) and Hudson 6 (4 very cheap) more seasons. Compare that to 1 more expensive season from both Jackson and Johnson.
  3. For those of you who love Cody Ross: jaysonst Clubs that have been talking to #Marlins about Cody Ross report they've been told that for Fish, trading him now is "definite no-go" #trades 12 minutes ago via web
  4. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 04:23 PM) Would you guys do this trade (and do you think the DBacks would bite?) Gordon Beckham + Daniel Hudson for Edwin Jackson + Kelly Johnson? You keep your Vizquel/Viciedo/Teahen TriPlatoon at 3B for the rest of the year, or until the playoffs, you get a left-handed hitter with a decent OBP & Pop playing where Beckham was, and you have a rotation going into the playoffs that's pretty solid, and your 2011 rotation would be pretty ridiculous, and you have Johnson locked up for 2011 as well f***.no.
  5. QUOTE (BFirebird @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 03:14 PM) Wouldn't that make him pretty cheap to get from the O's? I see your concerns but other than LaRoche I don't see many lefty options that aren't named Dunn or Fielder. He is not ideal but I would think he could be had pretty easily. Not when you're dealing with MacPhail. Like Stone said; he wants $1.50 for his $1 -- and got if for Bedard -- and is under no pressure to immediately deal Scott since the team does have the money to keep him around and he's still under their control for another 2 years. When Andy MacPhail holds all the cards it's really tough to hammer out a deal with him. Don't get me wrong I do love Luke Scott I just see a lot more hurdles in the way than others do.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 02:07 PM) Mark Kotsay's wOBA is .295. What are the odds Scott will be that bad? What's the going rate on a 32 year old DH/OF with a .946 OPS (.858 for his career), hasn't had a season with a sub .800 OPS since becoming a full time player in '07, has been a 2+ WAR player 4 of the last 5 years (1.5 last year) and is under team control for another 2 years (though those last 2 arb years are going to be very pricey, he made about $4M this year)?
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 01:58 PM) The problem with Luke Scott is that he is so damn streaky. He is on a hot streak right now, so he could be outstanding for the next 2-3 weeks, but after that he won't be much of an addition to the club. This is actually my -- possibly irrationally -- worry with Scott. After his recent torrid hot streak his numbers on the year are now some of the best in the game (.404 wOBA); well Luke Scott isn't that good, he's just not. Over the last 3 years his wOBA have ranged from .343 to .365, so my worry is that he's gonna have to bring his overall numbers down to around those levels (maybe a bit higher since he probably won't get to 500 PA) over the final 2 months of the season meaning if you trade for Scott now you could get some absolutely horrible production out of him while he regresses back to the mean.
  8. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 01:17 PM) With this Mariners offense, that should continue. But you never know with these things... BTW, where's Russell Branyan? Branyan has been dealing with a sore back, could return to the lineup tonight.
  9. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 07:49 AM) Bump. Now that Peavy is gone, maybe this isn't such a bad idea. Sure it is.
  10. OCR_DanWoike #Angels Dan Haren's injury is a contusion on his right forearm. Will be re-examined tomorrow. 6 minutes ago via web
  11. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 10:23 PM) Haren looks fantastic. 7 Ks through 4 innings. Did give up a HR to Ortiz. That's really the only legitimate criticism of him. He's got a gopher problem. f***ing Joe Saunders. I'm gonna hurl. Yeah well, now his right arm is broken thanks to a liner off the bat of Youk. Or it's just a bruise and he'll be back out there in 5 days. Who knows? Humorous (in a very dark sort of way) regardless.
  12. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 04:55 PM) I'm still in shock. How the hell did they (the Angels) pull this s*** off? Unbelievable. And shame on us for not swooping in and making a legitimate play. f*** the offense. There's no realistic bat out there that we could get that would make us a more dangerous team than if we added Haren to the rotation. That's the thing about this deal, though. It looks like a pretty mediocre package of players so either Dipoto panicked, lost his f***ing mind or is in love with some of the guys he picked up. If I had to guess I'd say it's the 3rd option, Dipoto and the D-Backs brass/scouts see something in these players that they love and couldn't pass up, especially given that the trade got made a week before the deadline. If that's the case then it would have been difficult for any team to swoop and top the offer.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 09:16 PM) Why wouldn't he? I know I would. Problem is: he's the one that requested the trade in the first place. Kinda silly to ask to be traded then hamstring the club by demanding that an extra year and $14M in guaranteed money be added to your contract AND it looks like he really only wants to play for the Cardinals as he's apparently not too keen on playing for the Phillies.
  14. QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 06:52 PM) I’d rather Williams get another Starter for the rotation considering Danial Hudson isn’t gonna cut it and Garcia’s wheels are falling off. There's next to no quality starters out there right now. Very weak market for pitching.
  15. Make sure you read any Java prompts before you click yes or no.
  16. This could be a thing: Ken_Rosenthal Attention, Fukudome shoppers: Source says #Cubs would pay part of $4M-plus left this year and "quite a bit" of $13.5M salary next year. #MLB 3 minutes ago via web
  17. Jayson Stark Bunch of rumors flying that #Phillies were about to trade Jayson Werth to #Padres. Source: "Not true...had discussions...not close" #trades 6 minutes ago via web
  18. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 12:15 AM) Heyman is the worst baseball writer out there. For proof, just check out his Hall of Fame ballot this year. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writ...hall/index.html Preaching to the choir, he's f***ing brutal. He's also one of these National Writers that uses the term "top prospects" for every f***ing trade that goes down. Nightengale did it for the Cliff Lee trade (describing the prospects that WEREN'T Smoak) and Heyman did it today describing the 2 guys that we 100% knew were included in the deal along with Saunders. From what I understand none of those 5 players involved in those trades are what anyone would call "top" prospects. Believe it not, Jon/Bob but not every minor league ballplayer is a "TOP" prospect, this distinction is reserved for the very best prospects in a given farm system. As the days go by I'm appreciating Jeff Passan more and more, who described today's trade thusly: A-f***in'-men Jeff. As a pretty big fan of Dan Haren I can't even put into words how much this trade upsets me; that he was basically given away in a salary dump when he's still one of the very best starting pitchers in the game and is under team control at a reasonable price through 2013.
  19. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 06:58 PM) Man, are teams that scared by an anomaly ERA? That's Jon Heyman's s*** reasoning for why it's an acceptable package of players.
  20. 2007: ARZ turns Chris Carter, Brett Anderson, Aaron Cunningham, Dana Eveland, Carlos Gonzalez and Greg Smith into Dan Haren and Connor Robertson 2010: ARZ turns Dan Haren into Joe Saunders, Patrick Corbin, Rafael Rodriguez and Tyler Skaggs Um, wow.
  21. Looks like a f***ing salary dump. A package that high on quantity but low on quality. Can't wait to see soon-to-be 30 year old Joe Saunders work his magic in that ballpark.
