  1. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 07:49 PM) I agree we could use some help. Our offense is below average all across the board except HRs. Even though we face more RHP (at least so far this year) we are worse off against LHP. I don't know if the trend of the drastic difference in LHP vs RHP will continue but as a team we are worse against the LHP and might be as much if not a higher priority. Our RHH don't seem to be getting the job done against the LHP. Of course maybe thats because they haven't seen many this year. Our RHH are above average vs RHP, it's our LHH who are killing us vs RHP because they are not good hitters. our RHH vs RHP: .259/.326/.443/.769 league average: .259/.318/.410/.728 our LHH vs RHP: .259/.324/.364/.688 league average: .263/.336/.407/.743 Just as we suspected during ST: we're getting no power from the left hand side. Personally, I don't really care what side of the plate our newly acquired hitter bats from just as long as he's a good hitter with above average power because that's what we're lacking: productive hitters with some pop. It just so happens that some of the more intriguing names out there are left handed hitters.
  2. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 07:32 PM) Everyone keeps saying we need a lefty bat. If I'm reading the stats right we have a 259BA and 738OPS against RH pitchers and a 227BA and 696 OPS against LH pitchers. This would imply to me that we need help from RH hitters not LH hitters or at least players that can hit LH pitchers effectively. .259/.325/.412/.738 vs righties (that's before today, worse after getting shutdown by Santana) .234/.319/.385/.704 vs Lefties and then comes the rub . . . 2390 PA vs RHP and only 702 vs LHP. 77.2% of our total PA this season have come vs righties (higher after today). We go up against SIGNIFICANTLY more righties than lefties and our team line vs RHP is below league average which is .264/.333/.415/.747. It would stand to reason that we could use a some help against the pitchers that we face more than 3/4 of the time when our team OPS is 9th in the AL against said pitchers.
  3. To counter that: Ira Winderman IraHeatBeat Heat pulled James, Bosh, Wade print ads not because of any knowledge of James decision, but because of unsigned status of Bosh and Wade. and chadfordinsider If LeBron is really going to notify teams shortly before 9 p.m. about his decision ... the actual decision is going to leak.
  4. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 05:09 PM) Sometimes you have to overpay to keep players away from rivals. And completely decimate your farm system to acquire a rental that I don't think greatly improves our chances at winning the division. And as Fathom said: it's all moot since I don't see how we could possibly beat the Twins offer.
  5. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 03:45 PM) Larry Stone of the Seattle Times? hears rumblings that the White Sox, who just lost Jake Peavy to the DL, are at least 'kicking tires' on Lee. That would not be a surprise given Kenny Williams' track record. Such a trade would legitimately upset me.
  6. This team is like a runaway f***ing freight train right now. It's awesome. 25 QS in our last 28 games, at least that's what Garfein said.
  7. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) Some would argue that's better than some of the people we're giving a lot of at bats to right now. That's not exactly saying much. There's 160 players in baseball with a higher wOBA than Kotsay.
  8. How about "Lillibridge" why does every s***ty player that comes through town need to get a nickname? It also doesn't f***ing count if you're brainstorming nicknames, it needs to be an organic process that develops over time. Thinking up a "good one" for a player defeats the purpose entirely.
  9. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 01:49 AM) You and your hate-o-rade post have become unbearable to read lately. Sucks that you can't face the truth. Keep on loving some mediocre, career minor league firstbaseman.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 12:00 AM) Really wish the Sox would kick the tires on Garret Jones instead. No way he'd cost as much as Dunn. Think about just how little sense Jones makes: He's under team control for FIVE more years after this season, yeah that's right, not a typo FIVE. He's super cheap so the Pirates have little incentive to trade him unless they get overwhelmed, that 5 years of control adds to this value. He's wildly inconsistent: since May 1st he's touched an .800 OPS 5 times but can't keep it up there over an extended period of time. In May his OPS range was nearly .100, in June it was .067. His power is also inconsistent, going weeks between HR, he's currently on a 20 game HR drought. We definitely need more of a sure thing than Garrett Jones (the man with the .340 wOBA that looked like a career minor leaguer until last season) and I'm not sold at all on his cheap price tag.
  11. QUOTE (Sonik22 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 01:15 AM) Broussard says Bulls still have slight shot, f*** you, you were just saying how it was basically a done deal to Miami. f*** it all make it 8 pm already Ha, he really said that? That's just ridiculous. How can these reporters hope to be taken seriously?
  12. You can't play defense like this and win close ballgames, it's just not possible.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 11:00 PM) Who are the Angels announcers? Rojas and Hudler?
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 10:59 PM) These Angels' announcers are real assholes....they sure do like ripping on our players even though we've been better than them in all facets this entire series. They did a Coors Freeze Cam of Andruw catching a fly ball without even looking the ball into his glove and said "I wonder if he'd be smiling still if it hit him in the face?" Jeesh. Heh, Andruw's been doing that for 15 years. I don't think it's an issue.
  15. I can't believe how horrible he is at bunting. It blows my f***ing mind.
  16. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 09:17 PM) By the way, did anyone else notice that Carlos Quentin's cousin is the State Farm guy? I think the same thing every time I see those f***ing annoying commercials.
  17. From DeLuca: Detatched lat for Peavy likely means he's out till Sept. best-case. White Sox will pursue starter on trade market. What? Why?
  18. This has been a pretty depressing 18 hour stretch.
  19. Not saying that I did freak out, because I didn't but I can understand why people would. It looked really bad and this is a pitcher with poor mechanics (inverted W) and 2 elbow strains in his history as well as fluid in his shoulder which has caused him to skip side sessions. Hard not to think the worst.
  20. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 08:39 PM) Miller Park You're probably right, I just remember him being a Cubs fan so I assumed.
  21. Same thing happened at Wrigley a while back, the guy just recently died from his injuries.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 08:23 PM) Well the Blue Jay announcer screwed it up, then. Are you sure? You are wrong or he is. He's wrong. Wise and Jarrett Hoffpauir nearly identical singles off Rivera on the 2nd.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 08:13 PM) I disagree especially with your first sentence. And to beat Rivera with a 3 run homer the other day and make a great catch tonight and hit another bomb. Yes these are just 2 instances, arguably providing the Jays with more than Beckham say has given us all this season. Some guys belong as the last guy on the roster. This guy fits the bill as a last roster outfielder, pinch runner, late inning fielder, whatever. Some say the hatred is because Ozzie started him and led him off to start the season. well you are all smart baseball people. The hate should be all on Ozzie. I doubt a high school kid could bash a homer off Rivera and roam center like he can. This guy isn't as good a hitter as Teahen I will admit that. I am all for keeping Teahen, but not crazy having Teahen start, especially at third. Wise can draw a paycheck as he's doing and feel like he's earning it, though. I do not classify him as a bum. Wise didn't homer off Rivera, he homered off Hughes. He got a little single into center off Rivera.
  24. Travis Snider is due back after the All-Star break at which point Wise will likely find himself either in the minors or unemployed once again. This is the life of the journeyman. A player gets hurt and the team brings him in for a few weeks to a month to fill out the roster (it helps if the organization is familiar with your as the Jays are with Wise since he spent 4 years in their system after doing nothing with Cincy) then the starter comes back and the journeyman is left looking for a job.
