Under The Radar Bats
QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 04:21 PM) Why not Aubrey Huff? The Giants are 3.5 out of the division lead and 2.5 out of the Wild Card.

Teahen
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 03:27 PM) Somebody will go when he gets back. It might be Dayan. Does Lillibridge have any options left? We optioned him to AAA in March so yeah, an option counts for the entire season. It's an "optional year" so you can only burn one in a given season. We can send him down at anytime without having to worry about losing him.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 03:06 AM) I really liked The Men Who Stare at Goats. Sooooo boring, there isn't a single scene from that movie that is stuck in my head, completely forgettable. And Ewan McGregor needs to stop doing American accents because they're epically horrible and it's funny because he was doing an American accent while playing a character who in real life is f***ing British an accent that he can actually pull off as a Scotsman.

Lance Berkman traded to Yankees
Why not Texas? Their starting 1B is Chris Davis who is a train wreck, they have a strong farm system, sure they can't take on any salary but they showed yesterday that they're 100% willing to give up a few extra prospects in exchange for cash and that's exactly what the Astros are looking for.

You can never have enough starters
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 11:34 PM) I didn't know that was added to the sarcasm as Kal pretty much got the other guys "right." Usually the man is incredibly spot on with players even the hands they throw so perhaps. Give me a break, my head hasn't been completely there since my friend was nearly killed alright. Because my getting Jeff Marquez's handedness wrong isn't a dead giveaway that I'm doing a bit?

You can never have enough starters
QUOTE (Felix @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 09:26 PM) I think we'd probably have to throw in Randy Williams. I can't see the Marlins saying no to that deal, as constructed. Yeah because the Marlins want some terrible, mid 30's reliever? Give me a break. They're looking for good, young, cheap talent and that's exactly what Jor. Danks, Retherford, Morel and Marquez are. Danks is a toolsy outfielder who at the very bare minimum is a good national league 4th outfielder thanks to his speed and defense and thanks to his athleticism and pedigree he has some very nice upside. Retherford is a very versatile, grindy ballplayer who reminds me of Craig Counsell and I'm sure the Marlins would love to have that guy back only 15 years younger, well that's what CJ is. Morel is an excellent defensive 3B with a great eye, very good contact numbers and should develop some power, if he reaches his full potential he's a borderline all-star 3B, something the Marlins could use. Jeff Marquez is a left handed starter who could easily work out of the pen as a long man or a good lefty MR. Talented left handed pitching is hard to find and that's what we have here. There's no good reason why they wouldn't do this deal, they can't afford Johnson long term. That's a certainty and they should strike while the iron is hot: he's on a roll right now but that won't last forever, they should get the best package of young talent they can before he reverts back to his normal self. Trust me, they'd bite.

You can never have enough starters
QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 09:14 PM) I think you're kidding. Are you kidding? Johnson would probably be the first or second-best pitcher in our rotation. I don't think the Marlins signed him to an extension just so they could trade him after the team had one bad half-season. Why would I kid? He'd look pretty good slotted behind Freddy. Dude makes way too much money to play for the Marlins and that team sucks anyway so I say we send Jordan Danks, Retherford, Morel and Jeff Marquez to Florida and pay the rest of his salary. They get plenty of good, cheap young talent and we get a pretty good starting pitcher for the stretch run. We're happy, Loria's happy. Everyone's happy. Get it done KW!

You can never have enough starters
Seeing as how they're 7 games out of the wild card we really should go hard after Josh Johnson right now. He's look pretty good in the middle of our rotation.

You can never have enough starters
QUOTE (daggins @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 05:43 PM) Well its not like Marcum is a top of the order guy. We probably lose a win or more going from Peavy to Hudson. Pitching is definitely an issue and a lot of these guys won't require emptying the farm. Shaun Marcum is an excellent #2 starter and under team control for 2 more years. The only reason the Jays would deal him is if they got a King's ransom. I don't even see how we match up with the Jays trade wise.

Cliff Lee Traded to Rangers
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 04:46 PM) True. And I forgot that they get the two picks if Lee doesn't sign with them. Yep and the rest of the package isn't very impressive. Seems like the Rangers did pretty damn well here.

Ken_Rosenthal #Yankees livid with #Mariners. Believed they had deal, then M's took it to #Rangers saying put Smoak in and Lee is yours #Rangers jumped. Adams' ankle injury was excuse for M's to back out. "You just don't do business that way," one Yankee official said. #MLB 7 minutes ago via txt

QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 04:32 PM) only smoak is a top prospect Yeah, you have to be wary when national writers use the term "top prospect" especially Nightengale. They usually don't know what the f*** they're talking about.

Cliff Lee Traded to Rangers
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 04:22 PM) Better Lee to the Rangers than the Twins or Yankees. But wow. I can't wait to see who the other three players are. If Martin Perez is one of them I'm quitting the sport of baseball. Might have to hang up your spikes: Bob Nightengale BNightengale #mlb #rangers The Mariners get 1B Justin Smoak and three top prospects, and will pay part of Lee's salary to Texas. 4 minutes ago via web Gotta wonder if Nightengale knows what a "top" prospect is.

Looks like the Rangers will only take on $1.5M of the $4M still due to Lee this season.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 04:03 PM) You can bet those 3 others will be pretty damn good also. It's an incredible haul for the Mariners. Trading for Lee might be one of the best moves Jack Zduriencik ever makes. Amazing.

Looks like the Rangers are chipping in extra spects for salary relief just as you'd think: BNightengale #mlb Rangers may have Mariners eat part of Lee's salary in return for additional prospects, just as they did with SF for Molina. 10 minutes ago via web Ken_Rosenthal #Rangers' deal for Lee confirmed. #Mariners sending cash in deal. #MLB less than a minute ago via Twitter for BlackBerry®
