Why are Buehrle's rough outings more annoying that others? Is it the high number of hits he allows? The fact that it looks like he's just tossing the ball up there? Hard to say.
-
That's really a play that needs to be made.
-
YES! There's the Podsednik we know and love! f*** him.
-
I really wish they wouldn't call an opposing player but a cutesy nickname.

QUOTE (Ranger @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 07:38 PM) Why does this annoy anybody? Why would a manager ever say, "Yeah I don't think my team is good enough, we could use some help"? Especially while the team is playing well. I never understand this reaction from people. It's talk. Nothing more. Trust me, if there's something available to them and they can swing a deal, they'll make one. Ozzie said the same thing during the offseason, and KW still went hard after Damon. Funny you would pick that post out of all of them considering just how tame it is. Why does it annoy me? Because it does, it's a normal human reaction that I can not explain, I read the quote and it irks me. Perhaps I just dislike bulls*** coach speak. I obvious "get it" considering I posted this like 6 posts down from that one: QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 05:46 PM) Really though, what's the guy going to say? He can't name underperforming players specifically and he's not going to publically state that he feels his team needs help. He has to show faith in his guys whether he believes it or not. The only thing that bothers me is that I think he believes it, he believed it in March and he believes it now. Though that really shouldn't matter.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 07:30 PM) Jones is playing 20 feet from the warning track in LF for everyone. He tends to play deep in the corners and I have no idea why since he play(ed?) arguably the shallowest CF of anyone in the history of the game in his heyday.

No communication in RF. I hate that s***.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 07:28 PM) Any chance Pierre has that? It'd be close.
-
You're not often going to get the call when your catcher drops the ball.
-
If he can get out of this with only 1 run scored that'd be HUGE. There's been a terrible feel to this first inning, 1-0 is fine in my book.
-
In his other 2 starts Lerew got through the lineup relatively unscathed the first time around but not so much the second time.

QUOTE (maki @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 04:17 PM) Move him to 2nd in the meantime to get Dayan starts at 3rd or find ABs at DH for him. There's a guy that was brought up, in Kenny's eyes I'm sure, to get regular ABs in 2 spots, as the downside risk is minimal when the general production is already significantly under replacement value. Don't you think Kenny thought it was an ideal spot to get 50-60 ABs waiting on Teahan and getting a feel for what he's going to need if he's a buyer or what he's got as a seller? No not really. Given that Ozzie and KW had a discussion about Dayan's playing time when he was called up and he's gotten all of 9 PA in 9 team games since then I'd say he was recalled just to give him a taste of the big league lifestyle, let him work with major league instructors and get a close look at him in on field drills and batting practice. Their #1 priority right now is to get Gordon back on track and given that he's still playing everyday for the big league club they obvious feel the best way to get him through this is to just let him play, not sit on the bench or take a trip to Charlotte. His swing has looked much better of late given just how brutal it was as recently as a week ago but who knows if that actually means anything.

QUOTE (maki @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 04:00 PM) Beckham is hitting .200 and showing no signs of life. The argument previously was that you can't move to viciedo/vizquel full-time because you're not sure how well vizquel would hold up, yet he's still playing everyday. What is the detriment of seeing if Viciedo is capable of hitting over .200 at this point, whether it's at DH or 3b? We're not looking to replace someone at 2nd or DH that's hitting .250 and there's downside if Viciedo hits .200. Everyone we're trotting out there is at the Mendoza line, there is no downside!!!! Ok, hitting at least, there is downside in the field. And the fact that he's just not a very good baseball player, he has plenty of value as a part time player to spell your starters and give you some D but he's not a good enough hitter to be an everyday player especially in a lineup as offensively challenged as ours. It just so happens that he hit a hot streak just as our starting 3B went down so for about a month or so it was nice to have him in the lineup but he's going to cool off big time some time soon and he'll have to be relegated back to bench duty.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 03:40 PM) Looking forward to the premier of Louis tomorrow night on F/X. Big Louis CK fan. He is an outstanding stand-up definitely one of my favorites. At least out of the more famous comedians.

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 03:33 PM) It goes up to $9.5 mil if he's traded. So, he's not worth the option, he's just a rental. You also almost NEVER see mutual options exercised. The only one I can really think of is the Astros and Brian Moehler exercising his $3M mutual option last year. I suppose it's significantly easier with a reliever, I can't imagine a very good 1B and the club both agreeing that he's worth a very specific value that had been determined a year earlier.

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 03:16 PM) We should really just go after Ty Wiggington. He can play multiple positions and has just solid enough a bat to plug that haggard ass hole at DH. He keeps everyone fresh and he has been semi respectable at 3B this season (-2.7 UZR), he's hit 13 homers this year and has a .357 wOBA. He isn't expensive and should be pretty easily attained. Heh, that -2.7 UZR is in 38 innings this season, it puts him at a -80.3 UZR/150, that's not so good (helping to offset his bat and making him a 0.7 WAR player this year). He's going to be an awful fielder no matter where you put him and personally, I have much higher expectations for our big impact bat than Ty Wigginton.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 12:36 PM) Plus why are we giving up 4 players for an inconsistent and kind of crazy pitcher? Now Linebrink or Williams for Carlos Z maybe, but at this point I think Linebrink might be coming back around. Zambrano not so much I don't think yesterday's outing means much, this is the same guy with the 9 ERA, 2 WHIP and 4 HR in 7 June innings.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 11:35 AM) Yanks? That doesn't even make any f***ing sense. If they sign Morneau and already have Teixeira at 1B then where the f*** are they going to play Pujols? Can't move him back to 3B because geriatric A-Rod is still being paid $25M to patrol the hot corner and LF is home to Carl Crawford can't slide him over with Andrew McCutchen and Andre Ethier fully entrenched in the other 2 outfield spots. The 2014 Yankees have no room for an old scrub like Morneau.
-
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 11:33 AM) Seriously, where is Morneau going when his contract is up? The Twins won't be able to resign him with Mauer's contract taking up so much money, will they? Plus, eventually they're going to wanna move Mauer to first base, right? 2014 is a LONG ways away, many, many, many things will change by then. Morneau will be 33.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 09:23 AM) If somebody like Torii Hunter or Brett Gardner gets on the team and Alex Rios doesn't, that's just sad. Yet entirely possible, Konerko's just getting a ton of buzz right now, not so much for Rios. It's a lot harder to snub a guy who's leading the league in home runs than one that just does everything incredibly well but no one quantifiable thing better than everyone else.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 11:13 PM) Final interleague tally: AL 134 NL 118 That's a .532 win percentage or an 86-76 record over a 162 game slate.

Heh, so if you just throw out Adam LaRoche's best month and Kotsay's worst month they're about equal? Seems fair. ZIPS has Mark Kotsay putting up this line the rest of the way this season: .253/.317/.355/.672 and a .303 wOBA And LaRoche: .280/.360/.509/.869 and a .378 wOBA Does a .378 wOBA qualify as a difference maker? Yeah, probably. Is it a significant upgrade over Kotsay? f*** yeah. One of the big reasons why everyone keeps bringing up his name is his career splits: 1st half: .253/.328/.450/.778 AB/HR: 24.8 2nd half: .300/.363/.546/.909 AB/HR: 17.7 Year by year 1st/2nd half splits by OPS: '04: .680/.934 '05: .810/.732 '06: .805/1.042 '07: .763/.854 '08: .764/.975 '09: .784/.915 '10: .808/??? Dude's got a consistent track record of significantly picking it up in the second half. He's also put up a sub .300 batting average in the 2nd half of a season only once and that was in 5 years ago. Are people drooling over him? No, not really. Would he be an acceptable and reasonable (financially and talent wise) replacement for Kotsay at DH? Most definitely. LaRoche is the most realistic and sensible target, that's why you see his name so often.

Brett Gardner scares me, I could see Girardi taking him and Rios staying home. Same goes for DeJesus (as the Royals 1 rep).

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 06:48 PM) I love that I get s*** for hating on Peavy for talking stupid, but Oz saying EXACTLY what the f*** he is supposed to gets flamed here. Absolutly ridiculous, whats he supposed to say? "Yeah a few of these guys suck ass, we should go get someone. This team isn't good enough" This place is hilarious sometimes That's because Peavy said nothing stupid.
