5/26 GT: Sox @ Cleveland - 11:05am
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ May 26, 2010 -> 01:56 PM) Besides two outings, Pena has been pretty good this year. And both of those were blowouts that we pretty much had no shot of winning when he entered, he's really having a very good year.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
Tony Pena basically single-handedly won this game. He was amazing. A well deserved win for the big man.

QUOTE (Brian @ May 26, 2010 -> 01:51 PM) Yikes. Hopefully two positives come out of this. A win and the end of Bobby in the 9th. Hey he got the job done in the end! That's all that really matters, not need to change anything now, right?

This amount of tension really isn't fun, it's pure f***ing hell.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ May 26, 2010 -> 01:44 PM) Stop blaming Ozzie. He got tossed a long time ago. The vast majority of managers still manage the game from the clubhouse, if Ozzie is to be believed then he deviates from the norm.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 26, 2010 -> 01:39 PM) MLB gamecast shows Bobby's FB at 95-96. Does that jive with TV? He's been throwing hard all season and a good portion of last year and it's really meant nothing.

Yeesh, Jenks' WHIP is up to 2.00 with 3 basrunners and 0 IP so far today.

Yeah qwerty, I was talking about Randy Williams but nice try.

I LOVE Omar replacing Teahen in the field with a 4 run lead in the 9th, this is one of the big reasons we signed him.

QUOTE (chw42 @ May 26, 2010 -> 01:17 PM) With a 4 run lead, I say you put Santos in here and see what happens. Eh, he's already thrown in 3 of the last 5 games, probably best to give him another day off today. Unless you're forced to use him, of course.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 26, 2010 -> 01:24 PM) Looking at the boxscore. Wow... what the hell has gotten into TMK? Progression to the mean. His OPS over the past 7 years: .740. His current OPS: .733. He was so bad to start the year that it took a pretty crazy hot streak to get him back to his statistical norms (he's still hitting for less AVG, more power and walking more than he usually does but those will level off as the year goes on). He's not as bad as his worst cold streak or as good as his best hot streak, he's true form is somewhere right in the middle.

QUOTE (qwerty @ May 26, 2010 -> 01:16 PM) I lied, i didn't check his 2010 season in which he has thrown three innings twice. 8 times this season pena has thrown a inning plus. Four times he has thrown two or more. Prior to today that is. Thanks for repeating all the data I've already posted in this thread only you did it inaccurately, you're a tremendous help.

What an amazing outing by pena: 4 IP, 2H, 1BB, 3K, 0R (1 inherited runner scored). It's an absolute miracle that we're up 5-1 in the 8th after only getting 2.1 IP out of Buehrle. Tony Pena really is having a very, very good year there's a reason why he has a positive WPA even with his very high ERA, he's gotten the job done when it's mattered most and gotten lit up in blowouts.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 26, 2010 -> 12:58 PM) Pena still in there??? I think 3 is enough Ozzie, we got the guys to go 7-8-9 He's up to 40+ pitches (43) for the 5th time this season, his max is 59 against the Twins on April 9th.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 26, 2010 -> 12:52 PM) Pena with a heck of an outing, even though his ERA is up, he's done a solid job this season. He allowed 9 of his 12 earned runs this season in 2 outings, both blowouts at the time he entered. Hitters are 3 for 21 (.143) against him in medium to high leverage situations coming into today and he's been superb in outings of 2+ innings.

QUOTE (T R U @ May 26, 2010 -> 12:41 PM) Maybe.. His May line (more ABs than April) is .296 / .387 / .519 / .906 and thats not counting today.. He certainly wasn't going to finish the year with an OPS under .400 so May has been a nice correction for his numbers, he'll probably level off sometime in the next week and give us an average Mark Kotsay month in June.

QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ May 26, 2010 -> 12:35 PM) Kotsay has been a beast for two weeks. He and Pierre are progressing back to the mean quite nicely right now.

QUOTE (chw42 @ May 26, 2010 -> 12:33 PM) Not this season. We had a 4 game winning streak at the very beginning of september last season and a 7 gamer at the end of June/beginning of July.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 26, 2010 -> 12:29 PM) Pena 20 pitches in 2 innings. Gotta like that. He's really been outstanding in his multi-inning outings this season. 9 baserunners and 15 K's in 12.2 innings of long relief this season.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 26, 2010 -> 12:25 PM) Nix oughta be playing second there is nothing Beckham is doing right now that Nix can not. Sending him down would be the best thing they could do as he may need to get away from Walker. Beckham does have 4 hits over his last 10 AB
-
5/26 GT: Sox @ Cleveland - 11:05am
That's 11.2 IP of long relief from Pena so far this year (I assume he'll go at least another inning if not 2) with only 3 total runners scoring.
-
5/26 GT: Sox @ Cleveland - 11:05am
Pena's given us 2+ in a quarter of his outings this year including two 3 inning performances. Only 2 runners have scored in those 10.2 IP, he's stranded all 3 runners he's inherited in these situations.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 26, 2010 -> 12:05 PM) They really need to get an extra inning out of williams. Well, he's given us 2+ innings in nearly a quarter of his outings this year including one 3 inning performance, no reason to believe he can't do it here.

Phillies scouting Jenks and Putz
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 26, 2010 -> 11:57 AM) So I was close (5 vs 3). Its silly to say that a 3.50 ERA over any 3 season span for a starter is anything other than very good. And 3.00 is perennial Cy Young contender territory. Josh Beckett has a 4.22 ERA in the American League (4.05 coming into this year) and people won't shut the f*** up about how great he is.
