Rangers inquire about AJ
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 17, 2010 -> 02:20 PM) The one thing that could help is the fall in the salaries in the middle of the pack due to the recession going on. The argument has to be made for players of similar ilk, and trying to argue that their salary should fit that. The fact remains; even in AJ's worst possible scenario he's still guaranteed $5.4M in arbitration. Last year the 2 highest paid catchers in free agency were a couple of shockers in Jason Kendall and Ivan Rodriguez at 2 years and $6M each so one year, $5.4M at age 34 coming off what's looking to be a pretty bad year at the plate would be one hell of a get for AJ.

Rangers inquire about AJ
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 17, 2010 -> 02:05 PM) It could. It depends on the figures submitted by the team and AJ, and then who sells the case better to the arbiter. The very least the Sox could offer him would be $5.4M which is likely quite a bit more than he'd be looking at on the open market and if he finishes the year with even mediocre offensive numbers and his people submit a number of $7M up against any figure lower than that submitted by the Sox he'd win in a landslide. A good major league veteran everyday catcher making a reasonable salary is not going to see a salary reduction in arbitration, a slight pay rise would be likely.

Rangers inquire about AJ
QUOTE (WCSox @ May 17, 2010 -> 01:58 PM) Wouldn't arbitration also give AJ a pay raise? He's making $6.75M this year, and it's kind of difficult seeing the Sox paying him $8M next year (especially if this year forces them into outright rebuilding). At the very least he'd make $7M. I can't see any conceivable reason why he'd turn that down, there's really no way he'd land that on a TWO year deal on the open market let alone 1 year.

QUOTE (T R U @ May 16, 2010 -> 10:39 PM) No I did not select the prime trial.. Also, it does not say that I get a $20 gift card so I think I am going to just cancel the whole thing and give up my brief amazon career.. I hate dealing with stuff that I am not directly involved with, like I cant tell if its the pre order edition or not.. Bah, quitter. And for the record, the only place you'll see the $20 gift card and guns pack deal is on the game's page, no email or order status will say you're getting those but they will come.

QUOTE (T R U @ May 16, 2010 -> 10:33 PM) No I did not select it to be gift wrapped.. The game itself is 59.99 and then shipping and handling is 5.98 which I am assuming is for the get it on Tuesday shipping I selected.. I will cancel it and try it again and make sure there isnt any unnecessary stuff.. That's odd. You did sign up for the free trial of Prime, right? Unless things are different with the membership and trial membership shipping should be free. If you didn't sign up for the free trial, you really should you get it for 90 days and it should save you $6 today.

QUOTE (T R U @ May 16, 2010 -> 10:26 PM) Its listed as a gift item too, dunno how that happened.. Either way it appears to have worked, but I still didn't see anything about golden guns or a $20 gift card.. I did get some $5 thing for an mp3 download which is worthless to me anyways.. I dunno, if I get it Tuesday afternoon for the same price that I would have gotten it for had I gone to gamestop its whatever.. Did you choose to have it gift wrapped? That would account for the extra $5. If so cancel the order and do it again this time make sure you don't check the gift wrap box. Don't know why you wouldn't get the gift card, you did order Red Dead Redemption, right?

QUOTE (T R U @ May 16, 2010 -> 10:20 PM) Ok so now I went back and tried to redo it and now all of the sudden I am getting it on Tuesday and it was $65.. This is confusing as hell, I hope I did it right.. Did you sign up for the free trial of Amazon Prime? If so it should be $59.99 and arrive Tuesday. On the invoice it sent to your email what raised the price to $65? Shipping should be free and there's no tax (assuming Texas is the same as Illinois).

Sign up for a free trial of Amazon Prime (just remember to cancel it before it runs out), it comes with free release date delivery. It'll show up at your doorstep Tuesday afternoon. It makes sense for me personally because I'm an Amazon prime member which means free 2 day delivery on all purchases and free release date delivery on games.

Amazon. I tend to buy a good amount of s*** off that site so a $20 gift card is pretty valuable to me. Don't really care about the in game stuff. With the gift card I could turn around and pick up 3D Dot Game Heroes for $15 or Arkham Asylum for $20, sounds like a good deal to me.

White Sox vs Royals 5-15-10 @ 6:10 pm
QUOTE (Capn12 @ May 15, 2010 -> 03:42 PM) If one of our biggest concerns, is driving in runs from the leadoff spot, we have FAR bigger issues. I don't care if Pierre drives in 10 runs all year, as long as he is hitting and getting on base. Let those whose job it is to drive runs in, do their job. Juan Pierre has the second most ABs with RISP on the club, it's pretty ridiculous to be ok with him not driving any of those runs in just because he happens to hit atop the lineup. As a high average hitter he needs to be picking up hits in those situations same as anyone else in the lineup, it's simply unacceptable that he's 4 for 29 in RBI opportunities, that's WAY too many wasted opportunities. Given that he gets the most PA on the team he's going to get plenty of late inning RBI opportunities and he doesn't deserve a free pass in those situations just because he's a punch and judy hitter or a "table setter".

2010 Cubs Thread
QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 15, 2010 -> 12:16 AM) He is pretty good and gets no love. Will probably always be underrated by most people except die hard fans and Pirate fans. It's not like he's been tearing apart the league for 3 years with no recognition or anything. He was great in half a season last year at age 28 on an awful team and coming into yesterday's game his OPS for the season was at .750 with 1 HR in his previous 131 PA. He hasn't done nearly enough to earn an outpouring of affection.

QUOTE (The Critic @ May 15, 2010 -> 09:01 AM) I've always said that Pat Hughes deserves twice of whatever they're paying him to carry that numbskull. Santo is only worth listening to when the Cubs lose an important game. Plus, he's a real asshole, so I never want them to win while he's around. It's a damn shame that he has to work with that clown because Pat Hughes is really a hell of an announcer. Unfortunately having to work along side a man with the mind of a 10 year old drags him down a bit.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 14, 2010 -> 04:11 PM) Decisions like these are why Ozzie keeps hearing those fire rumors, constantly defending himself. I don't even think Dusty Baker or Ned Yost are this stupid. Here's a list of mangers that weren't stupid enough to DH Omar Vizquel because they actually know where his value lies: Ron Washington Eric Wedge Charlie Manuel Joel Skinner Mike Hargrove Lou Piniella Bill Plummer Jim Lefebvre

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 14, 2010 -> 04:03 PM) So you want Nix to DH over Omar? Fine. The lineup still sucks. Magical Mark Teahen in theory should plaster the ball tonight off Meche, ditto AJP. And Paulie should loft a few of his meatballs out of the park. And Becks and Alexei should rock. How do you not get this? If Ozzie wants to put Omar in the lineup, that's fine but he needs TO BE IN THE FIELD as that's the only thing he does well. He could get away with DH'ing any of Teahen, Ramirez or Beckham today and plugging in Omar at any of those positions and it'd perfectly acceptable, not optimal but next to no one would be livid. Starting an ALL glove NO hit infielder at the DH slot is a joke. Think about this: Omar Vizquel has NEVER before DH'd, largely because none of his previous managers were daffy enough to slot him there.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 14, 2010 -> 03:58 PM) So basically you all are mad at one slot in the lineup. Nix for Omar? What lineup do you magically want with our personnel that will be any better? If Omar is going to be in the lineup then he needs to play the field, the only value he offers to a team is with the glove. There's no excuse for using one of the absolute worst offensive players in the big leagues over the past 3+ years as your DH even for one game. Especially when you have a bad defender at 3B just screaming for DH duties on a day when 2 of your regular designated hitters are on the bench.
