QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 8, 2009 -> 05:32 PM) I'm sensing another first career home run tonight. And by that I mean one walk, two groundouts and one or two K. Brent homered off Joe Thatcher in his 11th career game. Still waiting on his first career CS, GDP and SF.

If Pods gets recalled, will Fields change his #?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 8, 2009 -> 03:55 PM) I don't see Wise hitting any better than Pods, in fact probably worse. I also disagree that Pods is not that fast anymore - he still runs the bases as fast as anyone (base STEALING is another topic). And defensively, I think Wise is only slightly better. I see these two guys overall as nearly interchangeable, with a slight edge to Pods. Yeah, I pretty much disagree with all of it. I honestly don't know how you can watch this incarnation of Podsednik and believe he's as fast as Getz or Lillibride or even Wise at this point. I just don't see that burst. -

QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 8, 2009 -> 02:52 PM) You know Pods isn't going away anytime soon as long as he keeps hitting anywhere near .300 regardless of what Oz said. He's hitting .273 without a walk, he's not all that fast anymore, isn't driving the ball and is only capable of playing 1 position. If Ozzie chooses him over Wise then he's hypocritical fool but what's new? You're probably right. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 8, 2009 -> 02:27 PM) BABIP includes foul outs doesn't it? Then it's easy to calculate...hits/(ab's - k's) That gives .275 by my reckoning. A home run is not a ball in play and a sac fly is a ball in play but does not count as an AB. So . . . (H-HR)/(AB-SO-HR+SF) (24-8)/(99-12-8+1) 16/80 = .200 BABIP

QUOTE (WinningUgly85 @ May 8, 2009 -> 02:33 PM) yeah but he did a walk off WS winner for us back in 05. I think that counts. Lets say Gordan Beckham gets called up next week and he takes number 27 because that's his number then we acquire Geoff Blum and the deadline is Blum getting his usual #27 from Beckham? -

QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 8, 2009 -> 02:13 PM) I believe Fields had said he really didn't like the idea of wearing a former world series winners number who's back on the team...he said it didn't feel right. And no matter how bad Pods is, that's exactly right. And let's stop pretending like Fields is a "star". He's not. This gangrape soxtalk mentality for and against certain players is the most annoying thing about this place. Fields can say whatever he wants in the press doesn't really matter. Podsednik was going to ask for his number back, he said as much before he was recalled, IMO you have to be more than a marginal ballplayer in order to get that sort of respect. It doesn't matter if Fields is a "star" he's the starting 3B and a better player than the washed up CF the Sox signed to a minor league deal a month back. It has nothing to do with any dislike I have for Podsednik, could be anyone. If Dustin Hermanson came back and wanted his old number I'd feel the same damn way and I was a fan of Dustin's. And when Podsednik is gone a month from now (if Ozzie sticks to his word that's exactly what should happen) then our former 1st round pick and starting 3B will have given up his number to a 1 month replacement player. -

It's ridiculous. Scott Podsednik is just simply not a good enough player to pull this s***, he's been a marginal ballplayer for the majority of his career, HE'S the guy that other should be giving up his number to a new acquired star, not the other way around. Just the fact that Podsednik was willing to ask our STARTING THIRD BASEMAN to kindly relinquish his number bothers me. -
Although it's early, Buehrle getting the Cy Young

QUOTE (BaseballNick @ May 8, 2009 -> 11:43 AM) He's coming off a rain shortened no-hitter, has a 1.85 ERA, and 28Ks in 27.1 IP. "Isn't even close" is being a bit tough on AP don't you think? He needs to work on the walks, but clearly, he's closer than you're giving him credit for. How many pitches did he throw in those 5 innings? That's not going to work at the next level, I don't see how he could be relied on to give this team innings when his command is as unpolished as it is. Really the earliest I'd like to see him in the bigs is September. -
They do make mouthpieces to help wean you off chewing tobacco and relax your jaw. It could be that these guys are trying to kick the habit.

QUOTE (3E8 @ May 7, 2009 -> 10:59 PM) Did anyone see The Office tonight? That episode felt really strange What in the hell was that? It felt like a fan written episode or something. Very bizarre.

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ May 8, 2009 -> 01:50 AM) hopefully Jose sucks, we recover and win and promote Poreda. Poreda isn't even close to ready and luckily I believe the Sox know this. -

No he will not because he is not good enough. If we're going to get ahead of ourselves then we should be awarding Zack Greinke or Roy Halladay with the merchandise. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2009 -> 07:57 PM) Well, this is sure nice to see after a long ass drive home due to traffic. Also, just noticed that Boston has scored 12 runs in an inning without making an out. We improved our season total from 4 to 9 first inning runs today. We're no longer in last place. Only second to last. -

Very good day for the brother's Nix. Laynce gets promoted to starting LF for the Reds taking over for the struggling Dickerson and Jayson Nix plays his first game as the White Sox "starting" shortstop AND gets his first career home run. They're like the Uptons, only much less talented. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2009 -> 07:03 PM) I'm sure it cost Pods something. He said he's yet to pay up but that he'll have to "get creative" in his repayment. -
Dewayne Wise took flyballs today. This is going to be interesting.

QUOTE (G&T @ May 7, 2009 -> 11:08 AM) An LA sportswriter had a great comment. Manny is going to be pouty and mad when he comes back because he won't get his big pay day next year. He won't be happy Manny anymore and probably won't help them much. Or . . . if he does come back and pouts he'll lose the only fans/defenders he has left, they're not going to stick by him if he becomes a pud after returning from a suspension that was 100% his doing. I guess it depends on how Manny wants to be viewed, if he comes back upbeat but remorseful and tears the cover off the ball over the final 3 months of the season people are gonna jump on his bandwagon. Or . . . he'll just be bad because he's off the roids.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2009 -> 10:55 AM) Will Omar Vizquel get in? Some announcer the other day thought he'd get in for sure. He's a tricky case. The only middle infielder with more GG than Omar is Ozzie Smith and they're incredibly similar hitters only Omar never got the same pub for his game that Ozzie did. Only 5 position players have more gold gloves: IRod, Brooks, Smith, Mays and Clemente. That's some prestigious company. Only 15 players have more than 10 GG and the only guys not in or not getting in would be Keith Hernandez, perhaps IRod and we'll see what happens with Andruw Jones. So Omar would be the only non-drug user/probable user with 10+ gold gloves to not get into the HoF.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 7, 2009 -> 10:42 AM) Well, we know Alexei and Lillibridge won't be implicated!!! Wouldn't surprise me one bit if they were, both would have their reasons.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 7, 2009 -> 10:48 AM) Forgot about Gary Sheffield...there's another name that will draw a lot of scrutiny, and he's sort of the Jim Rice/Eddie Murray of this generation of baseball players anyway. He was never getting in. He's was also implicated in Balco.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 7, 2009 -> 10:29 AM) we all think he's just cycling. How do you know he's just not trying to be like that dude from the bay? I always wondered why he, Sosa and Giambi (Brady Anderson too, hell almost all of them) made such a show out of their physiques. I suppose it's arrogance. Sosa wearing those sleeveless shirts during BP, showing off the tree trunks growing out of his torso always made me sick.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 7, 2009 -> 10:28 AM) The next question: does David Ortiz come under investigation? Youkilis? Pedroia? I mean, it is pretty suspicious an organization as adept at judging talent with Terry Ryan letting Ortiz go quite easily, then he morphs into a Hall of Fame type player like that magically by playing in Fenway. David Ortiz has yet to hit a HR this season and his ISO is .160 points below his career average.
