4/28/09 Mariners @ White Sox - Game 1, WGN
Kalapse replied to maggsmaggs's topic in 2009 Season in Review
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 01:59 PM) So Thome's getting two days off in 3 days? Makes me think something is going on with his back. This is ridiculous though...play Quentin in LF, and get Betemit in the f***ing lineup. This is the one game you better make sure you win in this series, and this is a pretty discouraging lineup. Agreed, I just don't get it. It's really not that difficult to incorporate him into the lineup. Lillibridge 2B Fields 3B Quentin LF Dye RF Konerko 1B/DH Betemit DH/1B Pierzynski C Anderson CF Ramirez SS And if you MUST DH Quentin then stick Betemit at 2B for the day. I doubt he kills you there and his pop against some s***ty righty starter would be much appreciated with Thome out of the lineup. The Sox/Angels Sunday night game last season was quite good. As was the early season Tigers game.
-
It gets no better than Albert Pujols.
-
And what do you know?
-
Gavin had trouble pitches over errors last year, I think he had something like 18 unearned runs against him.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 24, 2009 -> 02:56 PM) We'd have to make up an injury for the guy, so he can "rehab" in Charlotte, but i'm all for calling up Poreda to see what he can bring to the table/ Contreras has an option remaining. He has 5+ years of service so he'd have to agree to it but it is possible that Jose could be sent to the minors sometime this year.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 24, 2009 -> 04:29 PM) Actually, I'd almost rather see an extra off day here or there for guys, esp. Dye if we could somehow swing that. 12:30 game on Sunday, day off on monday, rain delay tuesday kind of screws things up then back to back 6:00 games on WED and THU. They're plenty rested right now. If there's one thing Ozzie loves, it's getting his players rest, we'll be seeing a whole lot of Lillibridge and Betemit. With Colon and Contreras pitching in this past series we were going to need as much offense as possible swapping out Dye for Owens or Lillibride would have been a huge hit offensively. Tomorrow's lineup will undoubtedly include Lillibridge, Betemit and Miller against the lefty Burres. It's just nice to have good lineup stability for once.

4th straight game and 6th time this season that we've seen this exact lineup. Very nice.

That's not funny at all. I f***ing hate that bulls***.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 06:35 PM) Is Colon hurting perhaps? His fastball velocity has dropped so low that Gameday thinks every pitch is a changeup. He's throwing nothing but 2 seamers. Apparently he believes that he's gonna have to have good movement on every pitch if he wants to get outs, problem is that 2 seamer is sitting at 86 MPH. I wouldn't doubt that his arm still isn't where it should be but the command is pretty much there. -

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 06:30 PM) I would have to argue with you and say that Jermaine is a very good defender That's because you don't get to you know, watch him crawl around in right field and show off his terrible arm. -

QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 06:27 PM) Yeah, I only saw Getz drop it but Hawk said JD side-armed it, and one-hopped it a few feet from Getz, so he couldn't get the read on the hop. He probably didn't expect a throw to be bounced at his feet from 30 feet away. -

QUOTE (Cali @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 06:21 PM) What kind of throw was THAT JD? He does that on every throw doesn't matter the distance, the ball is going to be either bounced or rolled to its intended target. His arm is crap. -
QUOTE (heirdog @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 03:37 PM) Would you trade Beckham for Markakis? Without hesitation.
-
QUOTE (G&T @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 08:23 AM) That's not entirely fair since Carlos was considered a right fielder except that Dye is there. Of course, I have no clue if CQ can actually play right. RF isn't a premier position either especially when you don't have an elite arm (Carlos is FAR from elite), I'm talking about non-corner positions. A guy with maybe a little less production than Carlos but who is able to play a good CF would probably be considered more valuable. I only mentioned Markakis because we happen to be playing him right now and he's a better baseball player than Carlos. I'd trade Quentin for him in a heartbeat.

QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 01:23 PM) I know 3 weeks into the season is why too early to start the debate, but I think a guy named Ian Kinsler deserves that title right now. Dude's hitting the cover off the ball right now. Not to mention Brian Roberts, Aaron Hill and Robinson Cano.

Fear the Tigers and Justin Verlander's 9.00 ERA

QUOTE (Felix @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 09:11 PM) Without a doubt he's the best pitcher on our staff. Another great performance today, he's quickly becoming one of the premier young starters in the AL. I'll also point out how well BA has been doing since getting the starting job. It was noted in another thread, but he's definitely proving that he deserves the starting spot. Two more hits today with a double and RBI He's f***ing incredible, there's really no argument in my mind as to the best starter on the staff. 0.84 WHIP, .138 BAA and 0.95 ERA so far and that includes a game in which he really didn't have it. 9 hits in 19 IP

White Sox (7-6) @ Orioles (7-7) 6:05pm CDT on WCIU

.316 AVG and .386 OBP for Getz Unfortunately he awakes in a cold sweat every night out of fear of leading the next day's game.
