Spring of '09 television season thread
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 06:01 PM) Today's Red Eye had Flight of the Conchords listed as a show that might not come back. That would be a damn shame, this past season was outstanding. Didn't skip a beat from the first.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 06:48 PM) It started getting bad when it became too self aware and preachy. It tried to get cutesy with stuff and it just didn't work. It's kind of like South Park to me though that show can still churn out a decent episode here and there. The first 6 seasons were simply incredible but then the show began to change, much like with the Simpsons the animation got a lot better (don't know why this is a negative with me but it is, I can often tell a good Simpsons episode from a bad one right away just based on the animation), the subject matter was more graphic (at times it seemed like they were going for shock factor alone) and nearly all the episodes became parodies or based solely on real life events often lampooning a person in the news. I know Trey and Matt would often brag about the fact that they could start and finish an episode in 3 or 4 days. A story could break on Friday and they'd run an episode lampooning it by Wednesday. The Simpsons is just a different show today, completely unrecognizable from its heyday. Watch and episode from season 12 or 15 then an episode from season 4 or 7, same characters, entirely different show.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 06:37 PM) Season 9-season 10 was the beginning of the slow decline, IMO. Just about every episode in season 9 was excellent IMO, it began to change but still very good. Season 10 is definitely where it began to waiver, a lot more celebrity voices and the episodes were more hit and miss. Season 11 is where the show went straight to hell, from then on out it became unwatchable. It's kind of sad, for the first 9 seasons it was about as good as it gets but around half of the show's run has been crap.

4/28/09 Mariners @ White Sox - Game 1, WGN
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 01:59 PM) So Thome's getting two days off in 3 days? Makes me think something is going on with his back. This is ridiculous though...play Quentin in LF, and get Betemit in the f***ing lineup. This is the one game you better make sure you win in this series, and this is a pretty discouraging lineup. According to David Shuster Thome is having problems with his heal. Could be a smokescreen.

Agreed, I just don't get it. It's really not that difficult to incorporate him into the lineup. Lillibridge 2B Fields 3B Quentin LF Dye RF Konerko 1B/DH Betemit DH/1B Pierzynski C Anderson CF Ramirez SS And if you MUST DH Quentin then stick Betemit at 2B for the day. I doubt he kills you there and his pop against some s***ty righty starter would be much appreciated with Thome out of the lineup. ESPN Sunday Night Baseball May 3rd
The Sox/Angels Sunday night game last season was quite good. As was the early season Tigers game.

And what do you know?

SOX v. Blue Jays 4/24, 7:11 PM, CSN+
Gavin had trouble pitches over errors last year, I think he had something like 18 unearned runs against him.

Should KW take a flyer on an old nemesis?
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 24, 2009 -> 02:56 PM) We'd have to make up an injury for the guy, so he can "rehab" in Charlotte, but i'm all for calling up Poreda to see what he can bring to the table/ Contreras has an option remaining. He has 5+ years of service so he'd have to agree to it but it is possible that Jose could be sent to the minors sometime this year.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 24, 2009 -> 04:29 PM) Actually, I'd almost rather see an extra off day here or there for guys, esp. Dye if we could somehow swing that. 12:30 game on Sunday, day off on monday, rain delay tuesday kind of screws things up then back to back 6:00 games on WED and THU. They're plenty rested right now. If there's one thing Ozzie loves, it's getting his players rest, we'll be seeing a whole lot of Lillibridge and Betemit. With Colon and Contreras pitching in this past series we were going to need as much offense as possible swapping out Dye for Owens or Lillibride would have been a huge hit offensively. Tomorrow's lineup will undoubtedly include Lillibridge, Betemit and Miller against the lefty Burres. It's just nice to have good lineup stability for once.

4th straight game and 6th time this season that we've seen this exact lineup. Very nice.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 06:35 PM) Is Colon hurting perhaps? His fastball velocity has dropped so low that Gameday thinks every pitch is a changeup. He's throwing nothing but 2 seamers. Apparently he believes that he's gonna have to have good movement on every pitch if he wants to get outs, problem is that 2 seamer is sitting at 86 MPH. I wouldn't doubt that his arm still isn't where it should be but the command is pretty much there.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 06:30 PM) I would have to argue with you and say that Jermaine is a very good defender That's because you don't get to you know, watch him crawl around in right field and show off his terrible arm.

QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 06:27 PM) Yeah, I only saw Getz drop it but Hawk said JD side-armed it, and one-hopped it a few feet from Getz, so he couldn't get the read on the hop. He probably didn't expect a throw to be bounced at his feet from 30 feet away.

QUOTE (Cali @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 06:21 PM) What kind of throw was THAT JD? He does that on every throw doesn't matter the distance, the ball is going to be either bounced or rolled to its intended target. His arm is crap.

Who Would You Rather Have?

Who Would You Rather Have?
QUOTE (G&T @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 08:23 AM) That's not entirely fair since Carlos was considered a right fielder except that Dye is there. Of course, I have no clue if CQ can actually play right. RF isn't a premier position either especially when you don't have an elite arm (Carlos is FAR from elite), I'm talking about non-corner positions. A guy with maybe a little less production than Carlos but who is able to play a good CF would probably be considered more valuable. I only mentioned Markakis because we happen to be playing him right now and he's a better baseball player than Carlos. I'd trade Quentin for him in a heartbeat.
