QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Apr 21, 2009 -> 10:29 AM) He's large. His biceps are absolutely gargantuan, he was already probably the biggest (non-fatty) player in baseball and he's only getting larger with age. I can only imagine how big his ass is these days.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 21, 2009 -> 01:13 PM) Heads must be thrilled. Anyone have better confirmation than MLBTR yet that they can link here? Before I pin it? I already pinned it. It's being reported by the Score and just so everyone knows: MLBTR is not a f***ing source.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 21, 2009 -> 01:02 PM) Egbert really seemed to make an impression this spring. You really didnt hear his name at all, despite his numbers, and now he is the first call up. Hopefully he can do a solid job in the middle and as a long man. Just keep the ball down and throw strikes that's all I ask.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 21, 2009 -> 01:00 PM) He'll easily clear waivers, whether the Sox want to bother sending him back to Charlotte or not is another matter. I would imagine they have had enough and the Mike MacDougal era with the White Sox is ova.(Although you would wonder why they would DFA him instead of just releasing him if that were the case unless maybe they think they can throw him into a potential trade to offset costs) Its too bad because he has a ton of talent. Some guys just can't be fixed. Perhaps they're hoping a desperate team such as the Nationals will take a chance on him getting his s*** together for a couple months in a new environment, I doubt it'll happen but I suppose it's worth a s*** given the $3M hit they'll take if he's released.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 21, 2009 -> 07:14 AM) How is Betemit at corner OF? I know Getz has played some LF. I just think that leaves the team thin on the OF. Betemit's only played out there twice, he isn't an option. If they ditch Owens then we have 3.5 CF (Alexei and Quentin has played the position, hell Jim Callis thinks we should start him there) on the roster and maybe 6 guys that can play the corners in a pinch (Dye, Quentin, Anderson, Lillibridge, Getz, Ramirez). I don't see it as a problem.

The Nats and Braves are playing in the bottom of the 8th inning after a couple of rain delays. The game is being played in Washington so there's about 60 people left in the stands and you can hear every word they're saying. It's quite entertaining. Rafael Soriano has no idea where the ball is going when it leaves his hand.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 09:17 PM) The question is who does Nix replace? Lilli? Getz? Betemit? I think he will have to mash to be called up. Lillibridge, Getz and Betemit are safe. None of them are going anywhere. The obvious choice is Jerry Owens with Brent becoming the backup CF and Ozzie being content with only 1 lefty off the bench.

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 08:05 PM) I think Nix is playing SS only to show if he can be a back up on the Sox. This move has nothing to do with Beckham other than to keep in the lineup tonight. That won't keep people (I'm thinking media members) from checking the box score and making it out to be something it's not. If Nix is going to make the big league roster when his rehab assignment is up then he's gonna have to prove to the organization that he can play a competent SS and that's what they're trying to find out tonight.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 07:38 PM) If Jermaine Dye actually played good defense all-around, his arm would be good. As it is, he is bad out there though he makes some spectacular plays from time to time that a lot of right fielders make look easy. He really enjoys running into walls. Reckless abandon ≠ range/prowess -

QUOTE (qwerty @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 06:52 PM) Been way too occupied with other thing this past year- year and a half to memorize everything that is said. I thought it was odd since i recalled you noting that dye is brutal defensively, i will admit i figured you could have possibly flipped. Eh, I'll give you a pass this time. I'm not sure if I've ever even used the green. -

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 06:42 PM) I read that as sarcasm, Kalapse regularly rips Dye's perceived arm strength. During Friday night's game I heard Darrin Jackson praising Dye's arm in right field. He admitted that Jermaine catches everything flat footed but that his quick transfer from glove to hand, quick release and strong arm make up for it. How he could watch runners take base after base on Jermaine Dye over the past 4 seasons and continue to defend him is beyond me. I know he likes to get creative and throw behind the runner at 1B in an attempt to keep them honest but that s*** (which I don't remember ever actually working) doesn't make up for his 4 hopping throws into 2B on hard hit should-be singles into the gap or rolling the ball 6 feet up the 3B line on plays at the plate. "Jeramaine's got a shot with a good throooooow . . . no!" -

QUOTE (qwerty @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 06:13 PM) I don't think it is obviously flawed because you do not agree with it. Fangraphs ''arm'' would be in agreement that his arm has never been particullary good. http://www.baseballthinkfactory.org/files/...n_2003-03-21_0/ You don't read nearly enough of my posts, you need to brush up damn it. Hell I posted those same Runs/200 numbers a few months back and probably more than a few times since '06. I've always found it annoying that Jermaine has a reputation for being a good defender with very strong arm when neither is even remotely true. He has some of the worst mechanics of any outfielder in the game and it leads to one of the least effective arms in Major League Baseball yet Hawks and blind Sox fans will continue to sing his praises. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?s=...t&p=1820977 -
QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 05:38 PM) I thought "the foot fist way" was really terrible. Sometimes I think I'm alone in not absolutely loving Danny McBride. Foot Fist Way was a complete mess.

QUOTE (qwerty @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 05:24 PM) I Doubt It Um, no. Runs/200 is OBVIOUSLY flawed, how could they have the canon that is Jermaine Dye's right arm rated as below average over the past 3 years? Blasphemy. -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 05:23 PM) Dude, what? Anderson had an OF assist just the other day, had a bunch in ST, he has a plus arm. You want him to be Clemente to be acceptable? Anderson led both the Cactus and Grapefruit leagues with SIX outfield assists (2nd: 4 assists by 2 guys). No other Sox outfielder had more than 1, Brian has an very good arm. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 18, 2009 -> 05:05 PM) I used to love watching Dodgers games late at night when Gagne would come in and dominate the opposition. Broxton is getting to that level now also. He has the best fastball in the majors. That Dodgers team is fantastic, especially if Martin remembers he's supposed to be good. His average fastball this year is 97.6 MPH (96.3 last year and 95.2 MPH in '07) which is far and away the highest in the game (he led baseball last year too) and he's been touching 100+ in 2 strike counts. He's a blast to watch. 21 batters faced, 1 has reached, 11 have struck out.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 11:07 AM) Hey look, its the Washington Natinals The happenings in DC these days are really quite sad, I've caught more than a few of their games this year since they've been playing the Marlins. If Extra Innings gives me a choice I like to watch the MASN feed because A.) Dibbs is one of the more interesting color guys in the game and B.) They have one of the oddest/uncomfortable/sad marketing campaigns I've ever seen for a professional sports team. Right up there with the Bulls of the early '00s: "get your ass down to the UC and watch talented opposing players like Iverson, Carter and McGrady destroy the lowly Bulls!" Find more videos like this on myMASN There are many more, including some for the Orioles. They tend to follow a similar theme; "Remember last September when we were 32 games out of first place and pulled off that win against a good team? That was awesome and I'm a f***ing nut job." http://www.mymasn.com/video/video/listForC...e=1q26i2n7uwq46

Mike North is easily avoidable, there's really no reason for me to ever hear or see him, wish I could say the same for Kaplan. It literally gets no worse than Dave Kaplan, he offends every sports sensitivity I have, he needs to be removed from the airwaves and preferably deported. As for the poster who said Dave Kaplan knows "some stuff", um bull-f***ing-s***. What stuff? How to be an insufferable prick? How to go hours without blinking? He's got the Lew Ford lifeless puppy-killing smirk down and he needs to be stopped.

It's mid-April. Just over the next 30 days or so things will change so much that none of this will matter, if there's one thing I've learned it's that you really can't project offseason moves before mid to late July (and even that is too damn soon) things will almost undoubtedly change significantly over the next 5 months and render any predictions in this thread moot.
-
I had a ton of time to play the week/weekend of the original draft time (sadly it got pushed back) but things have changed significantly for me over the past 6 days or so, I thought I could make time but I've only been home for maybe 4 non-sleeping hours over the past week. Don't know if things are going to open up a bit this week (dear god I hope so) but I doubt it.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 18, 2009 -> 12:54 PM) Would someone PLEASE inform Ozzie that Getz hits lefties as well or better than righties, and that Lilli is not a major league hitter? I sure as hell hope someone does, and soon. Every day Lillibridge starts retards Getz' growth and undermines his growing confidence. And we wonder why veteran left handed hitters are so god awful against lefties, that's going to happen when they get no big league experience against them early in their careers. If Getz is going to sit in favor of the god awful Brent Lillibridge every time the Sox go up against a left handed starter then Chris is going to struggle to hit lefty relievers late in games that he starts. Even without looking at splits it's obvious that Chris Getz is a MUCH better bet than Lillibridge against a lefty starter even if he is a left handed hitter because he's a much more skilled/polished offensive talent. (and then there's the whole "Getz actually hit lefties better than righties in the minors" thing)

Swisher is currently PITCHING for the Yanks

QUOTE (rangercal @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 01:25 PM) He was?! .261/.469/.435/.904 w/ 1 HR & 9 walks through his first 32 PA last year and .269/.457/.538/.996 through 35 PA, it was only downhill from there. 10 games later his OPS dipped below .800 and wouldn't reach that mark again for the remainder of the season. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 12:27 PM) Well, Swisher is the new clean-up hitter for the Yankees. Yet he couldn't start over DeWayne Wise over the last month for the White Sox. The Yankees must be getting really desperate. Yankees desperation move: putting a hitter with a 1.500+ OPS through 32 PA in the cleanup spot. (not to mention that .815 career OPS, .850 in '06+'07) White Sox desperation move: putting a 31 year old career minor leaguer in the leadoff spot / putting Brian Anderson in CF / signing a 33 year old Scott Podsednik to be the backup plan in CF I wish the Sox were in a position to make desperation moves like this one.
