Wise to DL with Separated Shoulder/Anderson to Start in CF

QUOTE (Soxpranos @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 01:28 AM) Not bad for the guy that cant play defense, how long will it take Anderson to make the top 10 play of the Day? Yes because the Sports Center top 10 plays of the day is how we grade defensive ability now a days, it actually wouldn't surprise me if that's how gold glove votes are determined, I'm sure Nate McLouth is falling down all the time. I can't remember the last time I saw them highlight an excellent jump and subsequent effortless grab in the gap in a highlight package or montage. Sammy Sosa falling down to catch a ball in right field after misreading it off the bat? I believe those were almost daily. Instincts don't make for the flashiest highlights. That being said, the play Wise made in the gap yesterday was excellent and I'm sure a much better/more important play than some of those ranked ahead of it. -
No thank you. And I'll be honest; I do take some offense to your characterizing me as someone who relies solely on statistics, my second favorite player of the 90's was Mike f***ing Caruso for Christ's sake. That guy was a statistical train wreck.

Will White Sox fans also boo BA if he goes 0/8?

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 06:29 AM) tl;dr Seriously. This is just f***ing ridiculous. I'll simply address the title and leave it at that. Would I personally have booed Wise? No, I think it's stupid personally. Do I understand why people booed him? Kinda. Would he have been booed had he been hitting 9th to start the year? s*** no. Were they actually booing Wise himself or the horrible decision to hit him leadoff on a title contender? Well that would be the latter and I'm 100% certain of that. Kenny preached OBP at the top all offseason then plugged a sub-.300 OBP player in that spot, he failed miserably and I suppose this was the best way for the fans to show their displeasure with him. -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 01:54 PM) Kill Zone 2 is $52.99 plus free shipping on Amazon. They had it as a Gold Box deal today for $44.98 w/ free shipping. I'm sure it lasted a whole 5 minutes.

Alexei whiffed on a near identical pitch against Davies I believe. -
Hawk gets to me with his aggrandizing of some of players. It seems every other game we get a statement like this: "Over the last [#] years [so and so] has been one of, if not the best [some intangible quality] hitters/pitchers/fielders in the American League." Like he's at all qualified to make a statement like this.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 05:26 PM) Pods was horrible in 2006/07 and now he's 3 years older...and he really just can't play CF any better than Swisher or Mackowiak. Owens is a much better CFer than Pods, both of them have lousy arms, but we have Alexei at least to take 60% of the cutoffs, he has one of the best infield arms in the game. If KW takes Owens (even though he wasn't even on the 40 man) and skips over Pods, what does that tell you about what KW thinks about the idea of bringing back Mr. Dergan? But struggles mightily with cutoffs. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 05:20 PM) The odds are better than 50% that Getz will fail at leadoff and that BA will be terribly exposed playing against righties. When's the last time a White Sox rookie was able to just enter the line-up and play everyday...by that, I don't mean Ramirez, who was an international player and already 26...but someone we drafted or even traded for? Maybe everyone has fallen in love with Chris Getz because of how well he played in ST...and he did have a good season last year...but you look at players like Rowand and Crede, it took them 2-3-4 years to establish themselves in the White Sox line-up. Just count me skeptical. I will be more than willing to admit that I was wrong whenever you want to revisit this, but I would be glad to "on the record" state that I don't think Getz will do well enough at leadoff to stay there and I don't think Anderson will succeed as an everyday player with that swing of his. As I said, maybe it's because the last middle infielder even having a decent season as a rookie was Mike Caruso, and he was acquired via trade and rushed to the big leagues before he was ready. Yeah that has absolutely nothing to do with Chris Getz, the success or failure of past White Sox rookies has no impact on Chris Getz's future. How about we give him a few weeks in the role before we worry about pretending to find a replacement? His minor league track record is solid, he was great in spring training and he looks comfortable at the plate, he's been working counts nicely and seeing an above average number of pitches in his 9 leadoff PA. You can play devil's advocate and post long diatribes all you want but I'm not going to participate for another few weeks. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 05:07 PM) Okay, who would you target and what would you be willing to give up? We can all say, gee, it'd be great to have Blanco or Denard Span or Chone Figgins or Vernon Wells or whoever, but are none of those options are realistic ones (well, maybe Blanco if the Braves are 100% confidence in Schaffer). It doesn't matter if in Ozzie and KW's mind that BA has already had enough chances/opportunities to prove he's not an everyday player either...we can whine and bellyache and complain until the cows come home about Ozzie's vendetta against BA, but if really didn't want him, he'd be off the team, just like what happened with Vazquez, Swisher and Cabrera. Why would they keep him on the roster? Just to torture him and those who post on message boards? Um, you f***ing stick with Getz? There's your leadoff hitter. As far as CF, you go with Brian full time. -
I guess that's your third. RIP, Bird.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 04:49 PM) .275 BA .323 OBP .320 SLG .643 OPS That's Jerry Owens career-wise against RHP. I'm not sure how that is so different from BA's averages against RHP over his career. Yes, BA is a better defender, but he's not a leadoff hitter. If Getz/Lillibridge fail at this position, who do you want to use, Alexei Ramirez??? Jerry Owens should NEVER hit leadoff for the White Sox again regardless of who fails. You start Anderson in CF and hit him leadoff before you stick Owens back in that role. You do something proactive like acquiring a new, more talented player to fill your leadoff role. Owens is out of chances. You do not give the worst hitter on your team the most PA especially when he's giving you close to nothing in the field. He's a bad baseball player. And yes you hit Alexei at the top before Owens. Jerry Owens isn't even fast! He has no business hitting at the top of anyone's lineup. -
QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 03:57 PM) Idonno, 2 guys hitting their 300th HR back to back is really unlikely scenario to take place again. And yet it only took what? 50 years for it to happen the first time?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 03:55 PM) We've only had two hits from Wise, Getz and Lillibridge out of 30+ AB's so far from leadoff. I'm sure we have the worst AVG/OBP/SLG/OPS from the first spot compared to every major league team...so I don't see why starting Owens would be any worse. Getz is a 2 hitter, not a leadoff guy. So Getz goes 1 for 9 in the leadoff spot over 3 games and that proves that he's no better than Owens? And what exactly disqualifies him from leadoff duty? -
What did you expect? Ozzie's going to want a left handed hitting [pseudo-] center fielder with [perceived] good speed to replace Wise. Now who in the organization matches that description?

QUOTE (scenario @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 03:35 PM) Cowley is reporting (2 minutes ago) that Owens is getting the call. You gotta have real low standards for this to be considered a miracle. -
QUOTE (YASNY @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 01:41 PM) I doubt that it will ever be done again. I'm not a big fan of this line of thinking. What if they play baseball for another 500 or 2000 years? A hitter first reached 300 career HR 84 years ago and 300 in a career hasn't become prevalent until relatively recently so it didn't take very long for a feat such as this to take place. If Major League Baseball exists for even another 500 years then baseball history as we know it will be a mere drop in the bucket.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 03:27 PM) It means more Owens. And I do believe that is the opposite of a miracle. I don't think much of Wise but he's a much better baseball player than his replacement. And injury to Dewayne Wise is definitely a bad thing and will weaken the club. -
Carlos Quentin has a 1.344 OPS

QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 12, 2009 -> 09:18 AM) I am not a gamer but I am totally addicted to MLB the show. Although I cant get the baserunning down and it drives me f***ing crazy. Switch to the "classic" baserunning control scheme, it's so much better. It's weird, I've been playing a Franchise for the past month or so and for the first 3 weeks of the season I was crushing the ball all over the place, leading the league in HR and AVG then all of a sudden in the past 5 games I've had an all out power outage. I've scored maybe a run a game and hit 1 HR, no matter what I do I can't seem to get men on base. I'm working counts and getting into bullpens, jumping on first pitch fastballs, sitting on breaking balls, nothing works everything is hit right at someone or is a weak groundball. It's seriously frustrating.

Wow, poor control from Liriano early. Good stuff from Lillibridge, I don't expect much from him, just work the count in each AB.
