And now for a list of all the hitters with at least 20 spring AB and a higher OBP than Dewayne Wise . . . Josh Fields, AJ Pierzynski, Chris Getz, Alexei Ramirez, Gordon Beckham, Michael Restovich, Wilson Betemit, Brian Anderson, Paul Konerko, Josh Kroeger, Carlos Quentin, Jerry Owens and Jermaine Dye. That's 13 players, only 17 have at least 20 AB. The players behind Wise? Brent Lillibridge, Dayan Viciedo and Ben Broussard. So no major league hitters. Look out Grady Sizemore, Curtis Granderson, Denard Span and Covelli Crisp there's a new leadoff man in town!

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 18, 2009 -> 03:13 PM) I did that too in empathy for him since leadoff and #2 are so pressure filled. Denard Span lit a candle.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 18, 2009 -> 03:12 PM) Yet he's having a "great spring" and going to lead off with bad defense in CF. I'm hoping the Sox are just kidding. KW has to have something up his sleeve. Nothing screams Division Champs quite like a 31 year old career minor leaguer with a .290 spring OBP and .254 career major league OBP hitting leadoff.
-
Good start for Dweezy. His 6th K of the spring puts his BB/K at 0/6 and his OBP at .290.
-
I heard from a pretty good source that when today's lineups were posted and Chris Getz saw his name in the 2 hole he immediately vomited all over himself and collapsed into the fetal position. Word is he's supposed to miss about a week with an ulcer.
-
Since when is a 4th outfielder called a "utility player"?
-
Good to see Wise getting plenty of AB, maybe he can get his OBP under .270 today. An 0-4 day will put him at .273/.265/.455/.719 for the spring. 1-4 w/ no walks still dips his OBP below .300 at .294.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Mar 18, 2009 -> 01:59 PM) There was a rather hefty bet involved with SBIMI's lawyer status IIRC He tried to make a couple more $1000 bets with several posters in the "scary, very scary" thread.

Bard has thrown out less than 19% of prospective base runners for his career. He'd fit in perfectly.

I find it hard to take any team USA game seriously, Davey Johnson plays it more like an All-Star game than a legitimate international tournament. I was actually hoping for a USA loss after watching Thornton pitch tonight, it'd be nice to have him back in Sox camp.
-
I'd be in favor of making it a keeper but if this league does fill up by the 24th and we stick with the set draft time/date there's about a .01% chance I'll be able to make it seeing as how that's my birthday and there's no chance I'll be anywhere near a computer at 10:30. It'd be a shame since I also missed League 1's draft.

RotoWorld Suggests White Sox should sign Jim Edmonds

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 17, 2009 -> 10:01 PM) You do not know that Anderson cannot do that. Do not say something you cannot prove. f***ing Jose Lopez nearly put up 85/85/20 last year while playing half his games at Safeco, hitting in an awful lineup and being bad. Give Nick Swisher more than 588 PA last year and he does it with ease (finished with 24/86/69). -
QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Mar 17, 2009 -> 09:49 PM) Yes, how did you figure that? He has a sacrifice fly. OBP is calculated using plate appearances while batting average is calculated using AB. A SF doesn't count as an AB but it does count as a PA. So it hurts your OBP because you tallied a PA without reaching base but leaves your AVG unaffected since it doesn't count as an AB.
-
It's pretty funny, if the season started today our leadoff hitter would be a 31 year old career minor leaguer with a .300 spring OBP.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 17, 2009 -> 09:24 PM) Please turn it around BA, we NEED you to win this job. Anderson actually has better spring numbers than Wise, he has 10 more AB but still . . . .282/.370/.513/.883 in 39 AB, 5/10 BB/K, 0 SB - Brian .310/.300/.517/.816 in 29 AB, 0/5 BB/K, 1 SB - Dweezy

Every Year I Plan on Following Spring Training ... but

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Mar 17, 2009 -> 08:45 PM) Wise leading off will be a disaster. But what lineup would you like to see given the players we have? Assuming Beckham will not make the team. Getz - Regardless of the crippling pressure involved with leading off the bottom of the 1st he's the best fit at the top of the lineup given his tools as a hitter Ramirez - Outside of Getz there are no other high/moderate OBP hitters left to hit in the 2 hole, at least with Alexei hitting second you're getting one of your best hitters more plate appearances and late in close games I want him getting that 4th or 5th PA that might not be afforded to a #6 or #7 hitter and will be given to a mediocre offensive player like Pierzynski in Ozzie's lineup. Quentin Dye Thome Konerko Pierzynski Fields Anderson/Wise -

QUOTE (tommy @ Mar 17, 2009 -> 08:49 PM) If they won't bat Getz leadoff I still think he might bat second. Ozzie has said that he'd like to ease Getz into the lineup via the 8 or 9 spot in the batting order, if he were willing to hit him second then why not just go all the way and lead him off? Is there exponentially greater pressure batting 1st in inning #1 as opposed to hitting second? QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Mar 17, 2009 -> 08:51 PM) What about Beckham in the leadoff spot? Does he have the patience and eye to be one (for this year at least)? I think he'd be a really nice player in the 2 hole... He's not making the team, with the way Getz is playing it's making Ozzie's life a lot easier because you can tell he really didn't want to have to carry Beckham on Opening Day. He can send Gordon down for at least a month and start Getz who's hitting .333 w/ a .900+ spring OPS at second to start the year. -
It's on MLB network right now.

Carlos first got a start in the 3 hole during game #40 (May 14th, @ Angels, the grand slam game) he didn't hit anywhere else after that day. He spent the 9 previous games in the 2 hole so he moved to the top of the lineup on May 5th, game #31 (the final game of that awful 4 game series sweep by the Jays). -
QUOTE (Cubano @ Mar 17, 2009 -> 03:40 PM) Yes Network does the Yankees games. Right? I guess they have more fans. Like 10 times more.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 17, 2009 -> 03:09 PM) I stand corrected on the detail, but, my point is still the same. I'm not going to pass up an opportunity to degrade Jerry Owens, there may not be many more chances left.

CSN has only broadcast 2 games so far this spring.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 17, 2009 -> 03:31 PM) The double play the D-backs turned was a 5-3-6 double play. Poor baserunning by Viciedo? Had to have been.
