Gavin Floyd signs 4-year extension
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 02:30 PM) None. Do we know there's no options involved because this is an incredibly risky move with only a moderate payoff if there aren't. Alright there's an option for 2013. That makes much more sense.

Gavin Floyd signs 4-year extension
QUOTE (tommy @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 02:09 PM) Haha, do you think Hahn actually reads Cowley? Now we're hearing we might all be disappointed with the "big news." And Rick Hahn has informed me that my sources stink. Thanks for reading Rick. Now go get a leadoff hitter and get back to me. That's actually pretty funny since I can't think of anything more disappointing than Juan Pierre.

Gavin Floyd signs 4-year extension
Joe Cowley is a f***ing idiot, I don't even know why I bother reading his f***ing Twitter.

Gavin Floyd signs 4-year extension
It would be fitting; preach OBP at the top for the entire offseason then acquire an incredibly expensive player with a sub .330 OBP over the past 4 years in the national league to take the spot.

Gavin Floyd signs 4-year extension
QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 01:55 PM) Please be a trade for a CF not named Pierre or Podsednik According to Cowley it could be Pierre. He says the source isn't a very good one, however. Just kill me now.

Why is BA getting a look at leadoff?
He's just as much of a leadoff hitter as Dewayne Wise, perhaps it's a matter of equality since Wise is the frontrunner for the leadoff job vs righties.

3/20 Sox vs Giants
QUOTE (Soxpranos @ Mar 20, 2009 -> 06:01 PM) isn't Lillibridge a plus defender? Supposedly, at short. He's also been by far the most offensively inept regular in camp and had a horrible season in AAA last year.

3/20 Sox vs Giants
After another awful performance by Brent Lillibridge (0-4 w/ 3 K), his BB/K ratio now stands at 1/18 on the Spring. He has no business making the opening day roster.

John Lujan blows. We should never have traded Chris Stewart!

3/20 Sox vs Giants
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 20, 2009 -> 05:34 PM) BA could murder my family and I would still give him his props as far as being a very gifted defender. I don't see how anybody can dispute that. That's what I don't get. Some people actually question his defensive ability and act like we of Soxtalk are the only one's who believe him to be an elite defender.

3/20 Sox vs Giants
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 20, 2009 -> 05:13 PM) I love the fact that there is never any in-between in regards to Brian Anderson. People either love him or hate him. You never see the "eh, he's OK" I think he's the tallest midget, would you constitute that as love?

Getz is the leader for 2B
QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Mar 19, 2009 -> 10:30 PM) Ozzie thought it was April 1st. This is the dumbest idea I in the history of the spoken word. Fields or BA leading off? The wiff kings? Wise and Anderson had the same K rate last season yet it looks like Dewayne Wise is going to be the leadoff hitter against righties.

Getz is the leader for 2B
QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 19, 2009 -> 10:09 PM) Here's the full blog. http://blogs.dailyherald.com/node/1661 I think it's just Gregor blowing smoke. The Kenny Lofton comment...he was joking in the first line, since Lofton and Phillips both used to play for the Sox. Yeah, Kenny might be trying to do something...but isn't he always? But Podsednik? Edmonds? No way. And Pierre? Only if the Dodgers paid like, 80% of his contract. Try 90% and I wouldn't give them anything of value in return. He's due $28.5M over the next 3 years. I'd have a tough time paying him more than $1M a year in this market. I still don't understand why he's regarded as a regular in the big leagues, he'd be a nice pinch runner/bunter/slap hitter but unless you're a hardcore masochist I don't know why you'd want to watch him everyday.

Sergio Miranda Traded to MIL
Tony Gwynn Jr. is out of options. The last thing we need is another untalented lefty AAA outfielder who's out of options.

Merkin: Marquez a "lock" to make the team
Apparently Coop was on the Score this morning and put the odds of Contreras starting the year in the rotation at 95%, Colon on the other hand only got 50/50 odds, which I suppose is pretty good considering.

QUOTE (longshot7 @ Mar 19, 2009 -> 03:45 PM) That's too bad. The sox radio broadcasts have been pretty good - much better than that televised crapfest with Bill Melton & Whoever. Listening to Farmer and Jackson tow the company line, proclaiming a bunch of crap that they're just going to go back on once the season starts does nothing for me. At least Bill Melton entertains me with his ignorance and heavy breathing.

RotoWorld Suggests White Sox should sign Jim Edmonds
QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Mar 19, 2009 -> 12:42 PM) Yeah, if we convert either Getz or Alexei to center, it would have to be at least after a season of winter ball there. I don't want to live through any more on the job training in season. Been there done that with Mackowiak, and before that with Steve Sax. Alexei played just as much, if not more CF in Cuba than he did SS. He also spent more innings in CF last year than he did SS.

I was just pointing out that 85/85/20 isn't a great accomplishment especially over 700 PA.

QUOTE (longshot7 @ Mar 19, 2009 -> 12:10 PM) Gameday Audio says they have it. I was referring to a video broadcast. I'm not going to sit at my computer listening to a spring training game, it's boring enough watching these games, I can't imagine listening to them.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 19, 2009 -> 11:39 AM) So who will be your target of ire in today's game, K? Wait, let me guess... does his name start with a "J", and end in "erry"? Eh, sadly there's no broadcast for today's game, I'll probably be watching the tournament around 3 o'clock. I'll of course check the box score periodically to see just how many ground balls to the right side Jerry can muster off the high 90's fastball of Matt Cain. He might have to own the left side of the infield today.

2009 Cubs thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 18, 2009 -> 05:59 PM) Wait, huh? Retiring a number for 2 people? The Hawks did it late last year with the number 3 to honor Pierre Pilote and Keith Magnuson.
