It's also another guy who can't hit lefties and struggles mightily against finesse pitchers, like we don't have enough of them already.

If he's going to acquire a plodding lefy corner OF/DH from the Reds why couldn't it be Dunn? At least he's still talented and would bring this team a couple draft picks at the end of the season.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 07:33 AM) Whats his contract status? Is he a type A or B free agent? Likely B and he'd probably accept arbitration.

Ugh, sometimes Kenny Williams makes it so f***ing hard to defend him. I just can't envision a scenario in which this is a good fit, Griffey's just not very good anymore.

QUOTE (G&T @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 07:17 AM) The Score seems to think he'd be in center so Swish can go to first because Swish hits better when he isn't concerned about playing defense. Which the numbers don't support one bit. It's basically just people making excuses for Swisher. Gotta be honest, I'm pretty f***ing confused right now. You'd think the last thing we'd need is a washed up corner OF.

http://www.palmbeachpost.com/marlins/conte...730ramirez.html The Palm Beach Post has a tentative deal in place that looks like this: The Marlins would get Ramirez for Hermida, right-hander Ryan Tucker and two other prospects, with those four players being flipped to Pittsburgh for outfielder Jason Bay and left-hander John Grabow. The Red Sox would send the Marlins enough cash to cover the remainder of Ramirez's contract, as well as a prospect to be announced. Pittsburgh would get Hermida and three prospects - two from Florida and one from Boston. One of the Marlins' prospects is believed to be Tucker Then from Rotoworld via SI.com's John Heyman: If this deal doesn't get done Will Carroll won't be the only one with egg on his face.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 10:47 PM) 1. They have Brad Ziegler 2. I believe Street could leave after 2009. 3. OC brings them two high draft picks. That's life as a mid market team. Now this deal isn't going to happen, but that is why it's not illogical to bring up. He's a free agent after 2010.

QUOTE (JFields27 @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 10:34 PM) Thanks, where you hear that one from, and how does the whole trading of picks work, I thought picks couldnt be traded. If they can, it just never happens. Picks can't be traded but the Marlins will get 2 draft picks as compensation when Manny signs elsewhere in free agency. 1.) Manny rates out in the top 20% of OF, 1B and DH for the '07/'08 seasons by the Elias Sports Bureau, making him a Type A player 2.) The Marlins decline the 2009 $20M option they hold on Manny 3.) The Marlins offer Manny arbitration 4.) Manny declines arbitration 5.) Some team signs Manny in free agency 6.) If said team finished with a top 15 record in 2008 and did not sign any other Type A free agents before signing Manny the Marlins get that team's 2009 1st round pick as well as a sandwich pick (somewhere between 31 and 45 overall) 6.a) If said team had finished with a bottom 15 record and has yet to sign a Type A free agent the Marlins get said team's 2nd round draft pick 6.B.) If Manny is signed by a team that has already signed a Type A free agent then the Marlins will receive either a 2nd or 3rd round pick depending upon said team's 2008 record.

So when was the last time 3 first ballot hall of famers were traded at the deadline? Because we could very well see that happen this year. -

I love Matt Thornton, aside from the occasional hiccup he's been nails this year. -

Ugh, why can't we just have one f***ing game where the defense makes no mistakes? Hawk is about to unleash hell on OC. -

They seem pretty split over at Marlinsbaseball.com on the reported Manny deal. It seems like half dislike it either because they love Hermida or think Manny is a cancer and the other half know they still have plenty of corner OF prospects left and Manny is still one of the best hitters in the game. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 09:03 PM) Just commented on him being part of the Sox PR team. Hawk deals more in "fan relations" than anything else. If he's ripping on Cabrera for being a lazy b**** in the field then he's traded the next day, the fans should be happy he's gone because he's a lazy b**** in the field. -
