QUOTE (tonyho7476 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 03:14 PM) Fisk being our number 2? It doesn't really matter who you choose.

Is there another team that's been around for at least 50 years with a worse 2nd best player in franchise history than the Sox?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 01:56 PM) Wassermann since his callup: 6.1 IP, 6 H, 4 BB (2 IBB though), 0 K, 2.84 ERA. He's starting to look like he might be back to 2007 form. I'd keep him around for now. That's a 1.58 WHIP w/ a 0 K/9 and he's stranded only half of the 4 runners he's inherited. Aside from the 2 ER in 6.1 IP the rest of his numbers are just bad.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 11:56 AM) I don't think the injury is the same as the back surgery. Stiffness or tightness in the back muscles is what I believe the word was from the team trainer. Joe is still a better choice for 3B then Fields or Uribe in my opinion and I would have no problem with an extension. Would you be in favor of giving Crede a 100% guaranteed 4 or 5 year deal right now?

QUOTE (almagest @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 02:04 PM) Like who? Who are we going to replace the 60+ homers and ~200 RBIs we'd get from, say, Thome and Dye, or the mid-.800 OPS we'd get from a career-average Konerko with? What Terry Tiffees and Nick Puntos do you recommend we get? Jason Tyner? He's already playing for Charlotte, he'd be a nice replacement for Thome next year. Bring some much needed hard-nosed, passionate grindertude to this team.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 02:04 PM) I'll say it sort of worked one time with Mussina; 6 year deal, made it through the entire deal pitching anywhere from slightly below league average to a top 10 pitcher in the league and always threw more than 164 innings. But yeah, I'm not about to sign Sabathia, seeing as how that gut that hangs over his belt is probably going to land him with a sore back sooner than later. Eh. Mussina had 1 amazing season, 2 very good seasons, 1 just above average and 2 below average seasons. When I give a pitcher $88.5M I expect him to pitch like a $14.75M pitcher for close to the life of the deal. He pitched like a ~$90M pitcher for about half the deal. Not really what I'm looking for.

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 07:35 AM) I guess Carraso has been pitching alittle better than Wasserman... both are not impressive. I'd say Carrasco has been impressive since being recalled.

QUOTE (C_LEE45 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 12:58 PM) 09 Dream Furcal SS and how about FINALLY GETTING an ACE in C.C Sabathia Never going to happen. Williams and Reinsdorf are not going to give 7-8 years to a starter, seeing as how it has NEVER worked out.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 11:47 PM) Won't the Sox be in 1st based on win pct? 2 words loss.column The Sox are now a game up on the Twins. According to the only standings that matter (the mother f***ing loss column) the Sox never actually relinquished 1st place.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 11:11 PM) How dare Ozzie order a pitcher to throw a ball at a hitter? Doesn't he know the ball is a lethal weapon? The Blizzard of Oz should be fired now. Put him out of his misery. He is a dangerous man. He's actually pscho. The poor fans of the South Side are so sick of this guy. Just fire him. Oops, I just wrote Moronotti's column for him. Other managers should have Ozzie's back and admit they have ordered pitchers to hit batters. It's part of the game. But no ... they'll all shut up and Oz is the victim. Even though the Royals' skipper has had his pitchers hitting Sox batters all season in an attempt to get his team to start playing competitive ball against us. lucky.number.slevin oh and the 6 professional baseball players who have died from fastballs.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 10:22 PM) I haven't heard much of anything about Freddie and his progress. I believe there was some talk of his feeling good piotching to Little League players or something, but I would like to see F Garcia with the Sox then with someone else His name is "Freddy." It's not like it's a nickname or something, when he was born someone liked the "Freddy" with a "y." I know who like the name "Freddie" but it's just not right. I think we should respect the wishes of his parents and call him by his birth name.

What the hell happened to our pitching/defense?

QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 04:39 PM) I'm really surprised I'm not seeing more Chone Figgins love in this thread. He is a FA...correct? Figgin's would make so much sense it's not even funny...CF and 3B and leading off to boot. I'm really expecting Paulie to be gone this off season too. AZ or LAA..... His 3 year deal is up at season's end but he still has a year of arbitration left after this year, similar to the deal Teixeira signed with Texas. With a Service number of 4.145 coming into this season, he won't be eligible for free agency until November of '09.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 04:35 PM) They don't pose. Their slowness at getting out of the box just confuses you momentarily. And posing after a Hr should get you knocked down or hit, not the next batter. Hitting 2 Hr in a row should also have your feet moving out of the box, if nothing than to just stop you from being so comfortable in the box. And there are a few batters the Sox face that they should just consider either hitting from pitch one or walking, either one would be better than what they usually do to us. Griffey poses. He's famous for it.

Alright people keep in mind "bean" = ball to the head. If any of you truly believe a player should take a ball to the head for standing at home plate after they launch one then there's something wrong with you. How about "pegged" or "pelted"? At least these don't suggest any body part in particular So how about Jermaine's hop? Quentin's bat throw? Iguchi's bat flip? Do these deserve action as well? Do you seriously believe hitting Manny in the ass with a fastball is going to keep him from "showing you up?" If anything he's just going to stand at homeplate for an additional 5 seconds the next time he launches one off you.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 12:15 PM) Is Arroyo a free agent at the end of this season? At least if I'm the Reds GM, I'm hoping, if Arroyo doesn't leave, that I can develop a rotation of Harang, Arroyo, Cueto, Volquez, and Bailey. Masset would be a "eh" option, because the other 3 young guys I have clearly have better stuff. If Harang or Arroyo are walking this offseason then that would make sense. Arroyo still has 2 years and $22.5M left on his deal after this season. Harang has 2 years, $25.5M remaining. Both have team options for 2011 as well.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 10:09 PM) I'd assume because he figures the White Sox will call him up and put him in either the bullpen (which I would assume) or rotation. Having a second lefty who can throw 97+ out of the bullpen can be pretty damn nice.

July was a big month for the middle of the Sox lineup with Jim Thome managing his second straight 1.000+ OPS month this season, Jermaine Dye flirting with 1.100, Carlos Quentin seeing a resurgence of sorts with a 9 HR month and Alexei Ramirez logged a .340+ batting average for the second month in a row. The pitching on the other hand was pretty f***ing bad, Buehrle was solid, same with Floyd who only allowed 3 HR (8 last month), Dotel held opposing batters to a .473 OPS plus he picked up a save in his only opportunity filling in for Jenks and DJ Carrasco performed admirably in his first stint in a White Sox uniform. The player who receives the most votes gets a banner. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 09:46 PM) The Marlins seemingly always trade a relatively good prospect to the Mariners for a left handed reliever whenever they are competing. They did the same thing for Randy Villone a couple years ago too. Ron dumbass

Supposedly Kemp is not involved. LaRoche and Morris are however.

#17 He will be in the lineup tomorrow. Not tonight.

Lannan is supposed to start tonight against the Phillies.
