So Swisher's OPS is up to .789 and he's got 20 homers. He could conceivably finish the season with 30 HR and an .850 OPS.

For those of you who don't read the futuresox forum, Crede's latest attempt to rehab his injured back isn't going to well it seems. He started yesterday's game getting in two ABs, striking out in one and was then pulled after the 2nd AB. He did not play today.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 11:21 PM) On the radio broadcast, they said he's getting close to ready to start with the rehab assignment in Charlotte again. Which will bring up an interesting dilemma...can you bench Uribe for Crede, the way Juan has been playing? If Crede does return to starting, he's on a very short leash offensively/defensively. I posted this at the end of the game thread a few days ago but I'll say it again. IMO the return of Joe Crede (unless he's a whole different player than what we saw before he hit the DL, which he likely is not) would not be a positive addition, it would in fact hurt the ballclub. Uribe has been awesome at 3B, replacing him with a lesser player (which Crede has been this season IMO) would be a mistake. (not that they'd have much of a choice) EDIT: ick WAY too much tip toeing in that paragraph. I'll just put it bluntly. The White Sox upgraded the 3B position when Uribe took over for Crede.

Crede left Charlotte a couple days after getting an epidural injection, he's been rehabbing at home. He's supposed to join back up with Charlotte and start playing again in a few days (according to Stone.)

QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 10:57 PM) CQ's OPS after the ASB has to be pretty insane. HBP count towards one's OBP, correct? .350./460/.786/1.246 and 13 HR in 103 AB and yes HBP definitely count.

QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 09:41 PM) Nope. Fautino plays for the Stockon Ports in the California League. And he's been on the DL since April. (BTW - there are over 20 players in MiLB right now with the last name 'De Los Santos'.) Fautino had Tommy John surgery in April.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 10:41 PM) I think you have to keep your eye/s on Morneau again. If the Twins make it and the Sox don't, he might be the quietest two-time league MVP in recent memory. I almost think that Hamilton has a better chance if the Twins win, because they might prefer not to give it to Morneau two seasons in a row. Carlos Quentin makes for a better storyline than J. Morneau fwiw. I also think Dye could siphon off some votes as well... A-Rod won the MVP last season so it wouldn't be 2 years in a row for Morneau. I would have a tough time voting for Justin Morneau (if I had a vote), he's a first baseman with an OPS right around -- though at the moment below -- .900 and will probably finish with 25 HR at the most. That's pretty weak. I'd give it to Youk before Morneau.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 09:34 PM) After both games today: G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO AVG OBP SLG OPS Hamilton 121 486 80 146 28 3 28 114 50 94 .300 .365 .543 .908 Quentin 119 440 89 129 22 1 35 96 56 75 .293 .395 .586 .981 After tonight's games Carlos Quentin's OPS is now .073 points higher than that of Josh Hamilton. That's Big difference.

Keith Hernandez and Don Mattingly (two of the greatest defensive 1B in the history of the game) were only 6'0" tall during their playing days.

Jerry Owens is listed at 6'3" 195. His SLG at AAA this season? .316

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 15, 2008 -> 11:58 AM) he plays solid D (only 13 errors this season) but he seems to make the clutch plays especially against us. So you're judging him based on fielding percentage? I'd think just watching Sox games this season would teach people how useless errors are when judging a player's defensive abilities. Besides, he had the second worst fielding percentage of any qualified AL 3B this season, so even that worthless stat says he sucks. His defensive metrics suck, he has a reputation for being pretty bad at the third (just look around the internet), he's going to be 36 years old and his lateral quickness is pretty much non-existent.

QUOTE (JFields27 @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 10:46 PM) so basically he just has to be part of the team for the rest of the season? I feel like i have some understanding of the options, but then something always comes up, you usually know it though Kalapse, hats off I edited my post a bit to clarify. Since Clayton was only in AAA for 10 days (shorter than the required 20) an option was not used. Now since rosters expand 17 days from now, even if Richard is sent back to AAA some time this month, as long as he's recalled when rosters expand on Sept. 1st, once again an option will not be used.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 10:33 PM) Does all this shuffling use up Clayton and Lance's options? You can only use up 1 option per year. When Broadway was optioned to Charlotte in March it burnt his one option for the year so he has 2 left. (you start off with three) Clayton being recalled only 10 days after he was optioned to AAA means his demotion will not count as an option. (any assignment shorter than 20 days does not count as an option) So even if Clayton is sent back to the minors sometime this month but is recalled again when rosters expand on September first then the Sox will still retain all 3 options on Clayton Richard.

I was definitely impressed with the results today but not particularly impressed by the way he went about it. He only got 7 swinging strikes today, he wasn't missing bats at all. That s*** ain't gonna fly against a team with a couple big league hitters in the lineup, he's gonna have to find away to get the ball past the hitters if he wants to be successful especially with the current defense behind him.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 03:29 PM) I thought it was this year actually. Wasn't it Ortiz-Manny-Youk-Lowell??? I remember Varitek being involved. -
QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 03:22 PM) It really is, even if his clutch/RISP #'s bite the big one Longoria is pretty awesome in close and late situations: .314/.419/.725/1.145 including a walkoff HR against the Angels.

The fact that Wise is not in LF or RF right now leads me to believe that he may no longer be with the club. -
