QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 09:42 PM) Sportsline, FOXsports say $10 million but roto has it at $9 million as well. Regardless, I can't think of too many teams offering a 20% cut to a bigger name player or even the last time the Sox went to arbitration with a player. He makes $9M this year, $10M if you count the extra million he makes from his $4M signing bonus which is paid over the life of the deal. Since his actual salary this season is $9M I assume they could off him as little as $7.2M. And yes, I agree if Orlando accepts arbitration and the 2 sides decide to go in front of an arbitrator there's no way the Sox offer him a 20% decrease in salary, Orlando would win easily. If Orlando accepts arbitration he make at least $9M next year and as much as $9.5-$10M.

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 09:34 PM) His listed 2008 salary is $10 million which means the Sox will have to offer at least $8 million. Yep, this. He makes $10M this year so they could offer him at most a 20% decrease in salary: $8M. Actually ESPN has his salary at $10M but Cot's has him at $9M. Ok, I assume the extra million comes from his signing bonus which is paid over a 4 year span.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 09:25 PM) Kalapse.....how much would we have to offer him in arbitration? $7.2M

Personally I can't wait until Cabrera signs with another team so I never have to watch him play baseball again. I will intentionally avoid his new team's games so I don't have to see him.

Alexei is far from emotionless on the field. Given the fact that he's 26 years old and has only been in this country for what? a few months? he's actually pretty animated.
-
For a 2 time gold glove winning shortstop he sure does attempt to field an awful lot of ground balls to his side. He needs to get in front of the f***ing ball, he probably should have 5 to 8 more errors this season just on balls he booted because he didn't get in front of them. So yeah, I dislike him mostly for his s***ty fundamentals in the field.

It sure seems like Gavin comes through when the team needs him the most. Gotta love the 3.70 ERA from a starter who as of last year was nothing but a colossal bust.

A granny puts them within 1. SUCK IT THE f*** UP RUSSELL! Error #20 for Joe

QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 08:44 PM) When I first started reading yer post...those are the first guys that came to mind...Tigers. They are pretty good. I HATE the Royals announcers...whine too much. Mariners = VERY BAD...and old. Blue Jays...don't remember. The Rays weren't too bad IIRC... soooooo booooooring. That monotone bulls*** doesn't work when announcing a sporting event.

Ugh, I've been thoroughly unimpressed with Adam Russell during his time with the White Sox. His stuff is rather mediocre.

As of right this second: G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO AVG OBP SLG OPS Hamilton 128 517 83 154 29 4 29 116 52 101 .298 .362 .538 .900 Quentin 126 466 95 136 25 1 36 100 64 78 .292 .398 .582 .979 Morneau 131 494 78 152 34 3 20 102 67 71 .307 .388 .509 .897 Like I said; it's not particularly close.

Rockies put Taveras + Fuentes on waivers

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 07:42 PM) If we wanted Tavares we could just promote Owens. Fuentes would be nice, but not at the price of Poreda, which is what they want. That right there is some biting, concise analysis. -
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 07:07 PM) Swish, I think you're on my playoff bench at this point. Why?
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 06:27 PM) Crede hits off a LHP! Must be like the 5th time this year, I swear. 9th hit in 87 plate appearances.

If the Sox win this game by less than 10 runs it'll be an upset.

QUOTE (Felix @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 06:15 PM) Then ask literally any Twins fan here in Minnesota. They'll tell you he's absolutely terrible. Then look at his numbers for yourself. .256/.293/.348 with 118 strikeouts as opposed to only 20 walks. He's been a pathetic player this year, there's no way around that. .236/.276/.299/.575 in 288 PA since June 1st.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 05:56 PM) they'd say he sucks .641 OPS not doing it for ya? He isn't even a prolific basestealer like Jacoby Ellsbury. Apparently his defense has been pretty good despite the occasional youngster miscue. He better be pretty spectacular out there because he doesn't seem to do anything else even adequately.

I LOVE Swisher in the 2 hole. The more RBI opportunities for Quentin the better.

QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 04:22 PM) Will we get anything for Joe? I thought they chose the type A/B free agents based on their previous two season and since Crede missed most of last year I didn't think we were getting anything for him. Also anyone know what happens with Griffey, by declining his option do we lose the ability to offer him arb.? Crede will be a Type B free agent, he's done enough this year to earn that rating. If he's offered arb the Sox will get a sandwich pick. Griffey will also be a Type B free agent, the Sox will decline his option but offer him arbitration (yes, you can do that) which he will hopefully decline and the Sox will get a sandwich pick for him.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 03:28 PM) Doesn't he sound like AJP? "Above average bat" "Lacks frame" (although AJ is a bit tall) "Average power" "Above average D with a plus arm" (although I'd say AJ's arm is solid at best) If we could get him with like the 30th pick or one of the 4 we get from Crede and OC leaving, that'd be nice. 3 at the most, possibly 2. (if Crede isn't even offered Arb)
-
QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 03:26 PM) In terms of BA, HR, RBI, and defense, he is like Crede when Crede didn't make errors. And Beltre has a huge advantage in durability and speed. He's also a much better hitter to all fields than Crede and is a year younger than Joe. One more thing about Beltre: his OPS away from Safeco over the past 3 years is around .825, get him out of that pitcher's paradise and into the Cell and he becomes an even more productive offensive player.

From what I've been reading and hearing it seems Hamilton has really fallen off in the eyes of the national media. Justin Morneau is more of a candidate than Hamilton at this point. The one thing that Hamilton had on everyone else was his RBI total, he's currently at 116 RBI which is only 14 ahead of Morneau and 17 ahead of GOD. His OPS has fallen to .908 and he's 7 HRs off the lead. Hamilton is all but done at this point. Lead Candidates Carlos Quentin Justin Morneau 2nd Tier Joe Mauer Kevin Youkliss Jermaine Dye Alex Rodriguez Josh Hamilton 3rd Tier (will garner votes but are not legit contenders) K-Rod Evan Longoria Grady Sizemore IMO it's a 2 man race right now with Carlos way out in front. It's really not all that close.

Yes, I called it and yes I had to take care of business while watching the replays.

I think we all know what Adrian is about to do, it shall be spectacular.
