Tomorrow is absolutely HUGE, a win and Detroit will fall to 9 back in the loss column.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 09:11 PM) Who would they really trade besides Ivan and maybe Todd Jones? Hence why I'm not really buying it. I suppose this series could determine whether they are buyers or stand pat but I can't see them selling off pieces.
-
Buster Olney mentioned on Mike and Mike this morning that the Tigers are on the fence on whether to be buyers or sellers at the deadline since if they lose the next 3 games they'd be 9 games out of the playoffs in the loss column. I don't totally buy what Buster is selling but the thought of ending the Tigger's season in late July makes me feel all warm and fuzzy in side.

4 game lead over the Twins and 7 over the Tigers in the loss column.

Oh how things can change with just a swing of the bat. JD is just flat out clutch.

So who's actually available tonight? Dotel not being used in the 7th tells me they don't want to use Linebrink and Thornton is unavailable due to a back issue. His pen has Masset, Logan, Carrasco, Dotel and Jenks. f***ing great.
-
QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 08:19 PM) I know Linebrink is hurt but where the hell is Thornton or Dotel. Thornton is being treated for a back ailment. According to Cowley.

Nick Masset f***ing blows. He's not a major league pitcher. No f***ing reason for him to be pitching in the 7th inning of a tied ballgame.

Crede to DL, Fields Called Up, Loaiza Released

QUOTE (RME JICO @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 03:15 PM) He would have to jump up 10 spots in order to be in the top 20%. There is no way he makes it since it is 2B, SS, and 3B: Oh believe me, I know. I've been saying it for about year now. 2008 would have to be an absolute monster season for Crede to be a type A free agent, like a .950 OPS stud defense kind of season. -

Back lumbar inflammation according to the latest Score update. Loaiza is also going to be released. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 08:45 AM) Is there a significance to the order the players are listed in? They're my own rough rankings. Just kind of off the top of my head.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 02:42 PM) I doubt it. This is not good... although I guess in the big picture it doesn't matter a whole lot, eh? Will it diminish his "sandwich pick" value? I think as long as he doesn't spend the rest of the season on the DL and finishes with an OPS somewhere around .800 he should be a type B free agent. With how poor his defense has been and how his numbers have nose dived his small chance of becoming a Type A is all but gone. -

Extend him now while his value is down!!! -
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 07:14 AM) That isnt even a question, its a certainty. Ahh, the Cubs must be wishing for the good ole days when their prospects threw baseballs at endangered birds as opposed to fans Birds and players in the opposing on deck circle.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 11:39 PM) Right...there is a gaping hole at 1B though... Who was on the other team that was good? The Barons were playing the Braves AA affiliate.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 11:30 PM) With Hudson's injury, there's no one on the Braves that really excites me. The elbow tightness doesn't seem to be a big deal and he's been injury free since he strained his oblique in June of '05. He's one of the more consistent starters in the game (his seasonal ERA hasn't topped 3.54 since 2006 and didn't get any higher than 3.78 from the beginning of '03 straight through the end of '05), if he can pass a rigorous physical I'd be in favor of acquiring him.

There's still $38.663M left on Meche's deal. Um, no thanks.

QUOTE (ChiCard @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 10:14 PM) Didn't they say today that they made it retroactive to 7/14 so he's off the DL 7/28?????? From Cowley: Perhaps he can't be placed on the DL retroactive to July 14th since it was a league wide non-game day? I don't know, maybe Cowley was wrong. Jose's ESPN page has him eligible to come off on August 2nd which would be retroactive to the 18th.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 10:11 PM) Why are people talking about trading Contreras? The only chance he gets traded is after the deadline during the waiver period. He won't be included in any deal until he shows he actually can throw the ball. He isn't even eligible to come off the DL until August 2nd.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 10:02 PM) I'm pretty close to getting behind a possible Duke for Fields/Poreda deal. I actually think 3rd base is a pretty easy position to fill, so I'm not worried about 2009 and on. I'm very interested to see how he does at home against Texas on Saturday.
-
QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 10:01 PM) From that article I linked, it sounds like Duch wants some security with a deal. He should be easy to sign if they dealt for him. BTW, Does Jose have a no-trade for 2008? Or did that expire? I'd be very weary of giving Duch any sort of extension before the 2009 trade deadline but it's good to have that option appear open. And Jose is without trade protection for the remainder of his contract. He can be dealt at will.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 09:45 PM) Has Duke had any surgery on his shoulder/elbow in his history? Not that I've seen. He did have reconstrucive hip surgery last season and missed some games this year with right biceps tendinitis but from what I've found he hasn't had any surgery on his arm. Here's kind of a run through of some of his injuries: 26-Apr-08 Missed 17 games (right biceps tendinitis). 01-Oct-07 Missed the last 125 games of the regular season (right hip injury). [led to surgery] 23-Jun-06 Missed 37 games (right elbow injury). 25-May-05 Missed 12 games (back spasms).

QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 09:39 PM) IMO, Duch should be the #1 target, if the price is right. If it's Poreda and Fields +, that would be fine w/ me. Duch is having an awesome year, has gone 8 straight starts of 7 innings, including 8 innings of 1 hit ball vs. the Red Sox, wants to sign a long term deal, and at minimum be around for 2 more years. Coming into this season Duchscherer had a service number of 4.051 which means he'll be up over 5 this year and assuming he doesn't spend up much time in the minors next year he'll be a free agent after the 2009 season. So at minimum he'd be under White Sox control for 8 months.
