  1. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 05:56 PM) I thought that it was insane to offer to Jose and not to Garland. What exactly do you mean by this?
  2. 1.) Rotate it. In 2008 the AL team gets home field, 2009 goes to the NL team, 2010 goes back to the AL and so on and so on. 2.) If that won't work for whatever reason then the league with the better record in interleague play should be awarded homefield advantage in the World Series. That's it, those are the only 2 acceptable options IMO. You can't place great value on a game who's participants are selected via voting by f***ing dolts.
  3. A 30 year old who hasn't started a game in 5 years, hasn't pitched more than 100 innings in 5 years, with a history of serious durability concerns (spent 6 weeks on the DL during the '06 season with a sore elbow, had elbow tendinitis and triceps issues to start the '07 season and actually missed most of the year with a surgically repaired hip, started this year on the DL with a strained bicep . . . it goes on and on) through his first 16 starts is sporting a sub 2 ERA and sub 1 WHIP and is a free agent after the 2009 season. I think I know why Billy Beane might be willing to part with Duch. Talk about a high risk, high reward acquisition.
  4. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 10:38 AM) As someone pointed out on this board last year, it's called the "ALL STAR" game. Nowhere in that title does it imply that the best or most deserving players will be chosen. Whatever criteria is being used by the fans in the voting to determine what ALL STAR means is valid. Which brings us right back to what a f***ing crock it is that the winner gets homefield advantage. If there's no set criteria for choosing the players (ie: any f***ing loser can participate) then it should have absolutely no effect on the regular or post season what so ever.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 08:45 AM) Supposedly he had the next highest total in the player balloting, and that is why he is going. Which is a cop out.
  6. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 10:48 AM) Is that sarcasm? I just don't believe a guy can be doing awesome without having an average in the .270 to .275 range. Just my two sense. I love his periph's as they are very solid, but that average prevents him from being awesome. So if Swish goes 16 for 59 with 9 walks over a 16 game stretch rather than 14 for 57 with 11 walks it goes from being only a decent stretch to a great one? 16/59 = .271 AVG, 14/57 = .246 AVG. Batting average is an incredibly volatile statistic, swing at a 3-1 pitch that's out of the zone and have it fall in for a single in 2 ABs spaced 10 games apart rather than drawing the walk and suddenly your batting average for a 2 week stretch of games jumps 25 points. An .868 OPS and 13 RBIs over a 16 game stretch is pretty good for a versatile player like Nick Swisher, the absence of 2 singles doesn't bother me much when he's drawing a s*** load of walks but maybe I just value players like Nick Swisher over empty batting averages like Toby Hall and his .289.
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 01:58 AM) What's Swish hitting since June 26 ... just wondering. .246/.377/.491/.868 w/ 4 HR, 2 2B and 13 RBI over 57 ABs Pretty awesome.
  8. Keep in mind this is the first time Carlos Quentin has played LF in his baseball career, before this season he's been a RF at every level including college. He's probably just adjusting to a new position, LF is a totally different angle than RF, it takes time to adjust. When we got Carlos from Arizona he carried the reputation for being a very good (possibly elite) defensive RF. It's just a shame he had to move out of his comfort zone to the other side of the field.
  9. Jim Thome has already turned his season around, he's been kicking ass for about the past 6 weeks or so and especially of late (12 for his last 23 and 20 for his last 51 (.392)), not sure what more you want him to do. He's now sporting the 14th highest OPS in the American League and the 3rd highest on the Sox. (about 100 points higher than #4 Joe Crede.) Jim Thome and Paul Konerko are in completely different stratospheres right now.
  10. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 11:56 PM) Everybody knows about his 17 errors, but he's starting to look lost at the plate too. For the simple point of question, I bring up the Los Angeles series. On June 24th and 25th, he missed games out there with "back spasms". At that point, he was .275/.348/.521/.869. As of today, Joe is down to .253/.325/.466/.792. Also, since June 19th, Joe has a grand total of one double and one home run. Is he just in a slump, an offensive regression to the means, or is his back bothering him at the plate now too? The more I think about this, the more I worry because Joe is useless right now if he can't hit because his defense has been pretty bad. It just seems like back problems carry on forever, and I wonder how well the surgery actually fixed things. Since June 26th: 16 games, 56 ABs, 1 HR, 1 2B, 4 RBI, .161/.226/.232/.458 I say we give him $65M right NOW! Catch him while his value is at it's lowest!
  11. QUOTE (Jim Spencer @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 06:35 PM) After this ugly loss going into the All-Star Break we are still a game and a 1/2 up in 1st place. We have 2 All-Stars (should have at least 5) Thome has gotten his average up to .253, Danks and Floyd are alot better than most thought at the begining of the season, we have a Rookie of the Year canidate in Alexi and Juan Uribe is still with the team So looking on the Bright Side, we are alot better than the so called experts thought we'd be and hopefully the second half (I know it's not really the 1/2 way point) we'll be even better I'd love to know who your 5 are because I can think of 4 maybe 5 tops. Not only is Thome's average up to .253 but his OPS is at .887 (14th best in the AL) and he's doing the majority of his damage on the road.
  12. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 05:49 PM) Kinsler and Bradley still are pretty good hitters on the road. Check out the home/away splits for Crede, Konerko, Swisher, and Dye. Those are terrible. Yep, they're both .850+ OPS guys on the road which is about all you can ask of them. I'm sure opposing ballclubs feel the same way about the Sox as I do about the Rangers. Uh oh, he we go in the 9th.
  13. Well it looks like Jimmy is going to finish the first half with a .254/.376/.514/.890 line. Nice save big man.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 05:36 PM) What is the Sox record on Sunday away games? 3-5 after today. 6-1 at home though.
  15. I hate this f***ing team. NONE of them hit away from this joke of a ballpark not even the great Josh hamilton.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 05:16 PM) What's Konerko's career high for errors in a season? At 1B exclusively? 10. He's already up to 7 on the year.
  17. An inning and a half more of this bulls***, I don't know how I'm going to get through it.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 05:02 PM) I agree, and it makes me appreciate Danks so much more How he held this offense in this ballpark to 3 ER over 7+ I will never know. He really is the balls.
  19. I hate this f***ing ballpark and I hate this f***ing team. I can't wait until this f***ing game is over so I don't have to see another game in Arlington for the rest of the year.
  20. Awful throw by Konerko and a short arm from Cabrera, awesome.
