QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 09:04 PM) Did he say who plan A and B is? And wouldn't they deal for Duchscherer if 1 or 2 deals DON'T fall through? If he said who plan A and B were I would have posted it. And no, according to Cowley Duchscherer is kind of a fall back plan, if KW can't land his #1 or #2 targets then he'll turn to the A's and Duch. So in order for Duchscherer to end up with the Sox a couple other deals would have to fall through (ie: not happen.) I assume you just misunderstood the definition of the term "fall through."

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 07:12 PM) Does that mean they will break into when he's talking to announce the deal? I'm waiting for the breaking news jingle to interrupt Cowley any second now.
-
Ok so according to Cowley (he's on the Score right now) Duchscherer is NOT a priority for the Sox right now, he's plan C or D, the only reason the Sox would deal for Duch is if 1 or 2 other deals fall through.
-
QUOTE (sircaffey @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 06:14 PM) OMG, a pitcher pitching well without a 95 mph fastball! Plus command, a plus curve, and a good cutter. Sign me up. Don't give a s*** that he can't run it up in the mid 90's. Duch wasn't a failed SP turned RP. In fact, he was damn good throughout the minors. He moved purely based on the fact Oakland's rotation was nasty and the pen wasn't. He became an all-star there, and now he's back in the rotation where he's needed. He's good. Not this good, but he's good. I'll put Buehrle, Duch, Vazquez, and Danks up against any playoff rotation in baseball. And he moved back to the rotation because he was falling pray to a new injury every other week and spending at least a month per season on the DL. He figured moving to the rotation and pitching every 5th day would help him avoid these injuries. So far so good but when taking into account his medical history, the fact that he hasn't made a start in 5 years prior to this season and hasn't thrown 100+ innings since 2003 what are the chances he holds up to the workload?
-
QUOTE (striker62704 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 05:17 PM) If we got Duchscherer would we assume that Contreras is out of the rotation? I'd rather we went after Lowe in a deal that would also net us LaRoche. Any takers for Logan + Cabrera for Lowe and LaRoche? then Poreda + Fields for Duchscherer then Vazquez to Mets for prospects then prospects to Orioles for Roberts This is so easy Buerhle Floyd Danks Lowe Duchshcerer wow From now through the end of the 2009 season Javier Vazquez will be a more valuable major league starter than Justin Duchscherer. That is my bold prediction for the day.
-
QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 04:39 PM) I would think that Duch would cost more than Burnett. It should cost much less to acquire Burnett since he has the option of opting out of his current contract at season's end so you could be looking at a 2 month rental. Duch on the other hand would be under team control through 2009 and has been arguably the best starting pitcher in baseball this season while Burnett has just been "good."
-
Bernstein just mentioned that various outlets are reporting that KW's talks with the A's regarding a trade for Justin Duchscherer are heating up. Fields and Poreda would likely be involved. This makes me very nervous because I don't like Duch for the long term one bit.
-
I'd LOVE to see the Brewers somehow acquire Halladay, they should still have the necessary talent to pull off such a coup.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 04:14 PM) Lose some salary off our book like Count, Thome, Uribe, Crede and our team is better with Halladay. It's not an issue at all financially, the money is and would be there to pay him, he'd just be impossible to acquire.
-
In case anyone is curious: '08: $10M '09: $14.25M '10: $15.75M Not gonna happen.
-
Kenny has probably inquired as to the availability of every pitcher in baseball at this point.
-
Pitchers traded during the 2004 season: Jeremy Griffiths Dave Weathers Gabe White Denny Bautista Jason Grimsley Mike Wood Octavio Dotel Freddy Garcia Jimmy Anderson Gary Majewski Jon Rauch Mike Dejean Scott Randall Terry Adams Todd Jones Brad Penny Josh Hancock Andy Machado Guillermo Mota Felix Rodriguez Bill Murphy Bartolome Fortunato Jose Diaz Kris Benson Jon Huber Francis Beltran Tom Martin Esteban Loaiza Jose Contreras Ismael Valdez Travis Chick Scott Erickson Jeriome Robertson Cory Lidle Elmer Dessens Mike Venafro Dan Wheeler Freddy was a HUGE get, especially when you consider in the fact that he was mainly bidding against the Yankees.
-
Alexei Ramirez is just horrible with cutoffs.
-
QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 01:25 PM) Thome's OPS is now above .900. .262/.385/.520/.905 Creepy back towards his career averages.
-
And Jim Thome stays hot, that's about 2 full months now. Imagine how good he'd be if he still had adequate bat speed.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 22, 2008 -> 09:06 PM) He pitches against the Phillies at some point? I believe he gets the Marlins next time out, that should be interesting.
-
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 22, 2008 -> 10:36 PM) How frickin' bored are you? Not very, I just logged in to see the reaction to tonight's win, saw a fallacy in the Winner thread and helped by correcting it. You're welcome.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 22, 2008 -> 10:33 PM) I don't know, Everett and Alomar got plenty of people excited. And the reacquisition of Everett brought us a World Series a year later. He picked up Mike MacDougal on July 24, 2006. He went on to be one of the best relievers in baseball from July 25th right on through to the end of the season.
-
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 22, 2008 -> 10:21 PM) Last time Crede missed games due to injury was after that rocket off his wrist. He came back after that and absolutely tore it up for a week and a half or so. We could use that again in these upcoming series' vs MIN and DET. So missing the first 2 games of the Dodgers series (20 days after the wrist injury) with a lower back tightness (same thing he has now) followed by a 20 game stretch where he managed a .186/.234/.314/.548 line doesn't count?
-
QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 22, 2008 -> 01:07 AM) So far so good for Mr. Harden. Should be interesting to see what he does against a big league offense.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 21, 2008 -> 06:27 PM) To be honest. The best player on the trade market for us right now would be DeJesus if Dye is hurt for awhile. You play him in CF and lead him off. Q goes to right and Swish to LF. According to Cowley Dye will be in the lineup tomorrow.

Sox Option Russell, Call Up Clayton Richard
Kalapse replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 21, 2008 -> 03:11 PM) -- Wow, he's 6-foot-6. Hope he has command. Sometimes these tall guys are wild. Should be an interesting start against the hot hitting Rangers (except last weekend). From what I've read Clayton Richard's whole game is based around command/location of pitches since his stuff is so mediocre. This certainly isn't another Andrew Sisco. -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 21, 2008 -> 02:56 PM) Most of the bashing is that she's ugly. I haven't seen the movie yet but imo she's pretty disgusting looking. She's supposed to be the love interest of Aaron Eckhart and Christian f***ing Bale (Billionaire, Ballet enthusiast, Batman) she must have one HELL of a personality.

QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Jul 21, 2008 -> 02:54 PM) Very surpised by all the hate Maggie Gylenhall is getting here for her performance of Rachel Dawes. Acting wise, I thought she ran circles around Katie Holmes in "Begins" and as long as Maggie doesn't have the crooked awful looking smile that Holmes loves to flaunt, I don't see how you could think of this as a downgrade. I thouhgt she did a very admirable job, and judging by most of the reviews, I'd say most tend to agree. I havent seen more Maggie Gylenhall bashing anywhere more but here?? Her acting was very good, her face on the other hand . . .
