  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 07:20 PM) Ichiro also At least Ichiro can play some defense, steal a few bases and make your franchise some money. Michael Young hits singles and that's about it.
  2. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 07:15 PM) Michael young = overrated and inflated hit count. $16M a year for a mediocre baseball player. But he gets 200+ hits every year so he's beloved by the stupid.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 07:13 PM) I agree completely with this. It's getting to the point where his defense is costing us more than his offense is helping. He's pretty much a plotting, power hitting designated hitter at this point minus the walks you normally get from such players of course. He'll likely go into the All-Star break with a .790 OPS and 17 or 18 errors.
  4. It's sort of ironic that Joe Crede made the All-Star team seeing as how he's had at best a neutral influence on the team this year. He's just an awful defensive player right now.
  5. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 10:21 PM) Hawk said OC had nothing to apologize for because he got himself in position to score on a sac fly with one out. Feisty said he understood why JD would be annoyed by OC jumping around out by second base. Hawk said we needed the run and we got it. advantage hawk Because he wouldn't have scored from second on a single anyway? I understand trying to get to third with less than 2 outs but when you're distracting the man at the plate on a 2 strike count your actions becomes counter productive.
  6. That's not the first time Cabrera's done that either, he did the same thing to Quentin in Tampa. Hitters don't like it when a runner steals 3rd with 2 strikes, a guy running around behind the pitch is distracting.

  8. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 06:57 AM) It's not like .873 OPS is bad, though. That's still a pretty damn good line. Bad? No. One of the premier hitters in the game? Hell no. He has a reputation for being one of the the best hitters in baseball which is ridiculous IMO. His reputation suggests he's Manny Ramirez, the numbers -- when you look a little closer -- suggest he's probably a slightly better version of Raul Ibanez.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 01:33 AM) I don't think Jenks will ever get to 90-92; to the contrary, I think if absolutely necessary, he could get it up to 98-100. Cooper historically asks pitchers to take a bit off to get better control and movement on their pitches. That's exactly what Jenks is doing and it's one of the biggest reasons the White Sox staff has been among the healthiest in the league over the past 5 years or so. That, and the conditioning and training programs the Sox have. I also don't think Wood will be healthy at the end of the season. If he is, I'll be surprised as hell. 2008 .362/.441/.610/1.051 at Coors Fields .309/.401/.472/.873 on the road. Career .363/.427/.656/1.083 at Coors Field .277/.340/.450/.790 on the road Yeah, just try and convince me he's not overrated. 200 point difference in OPS this season, 300 point difference in his career. So, just wondering - if he does, in fact, get traded to St. Louis - can he still play half of his games at Coors Field? Career numbers: In AL ballparks: .267/.330/.429/.759 In NL East BPs: .302/.365/.483/.847 In NL Cent BPs: .291/.358/.493/.850 In All BPs minus COL, SD & SF: .284/.349/.455/.803
  10. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 11:16 PM) Rumors are swirling involved these 2 groups- CHI/PHI/TB and CHI/TB/OTT. Not sure on which players are rumored to be involved. As long as Khabby is gone and receive a 20-20 or so guy and maybe a pick in return, I'd be all for it. Link??? Source???
  11. I just did a little research, since May 1st Scott Linebrink has allowed only 3 runs. All 3 runs have come by way of the leadoff HR in the 9th inning. In all 3 circumstances those hitters (Floyd, Ramirez, Sizemore) were the first Linebrink had faced in the game. 6 times this year Scott Linebrink has replaced someone to start the 9th inning of a tied ballgame, Scott has allowed a HR to the leadoff hitter in half of those outings. (yesterday Scott replaced Danks in the top of the 9th inning of a 1-1 game, he got the leadoff hitter [sizemore] to pop out to short, not so lucky today.)
  12. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 11:00 PM) Don't fool yourself- I thought that'd be fairly obviously I was kidding. On another Sox board I used to be on, they kept saying how we could have gotten all these young studs from these other teams for Konerko. I thought the same went on here. There's a contingent of people who are under the impression that before this season Konerko's awesome power was so overvalued by the Angels organization that they'd be willing to deal Kotchman and Santana just to acquire said power (and of course a low level prospect or two.) I don't know you well enough to just assume you're not one of these people.
  13. 3rd 7+ game win streak this season. Third since May 14th.
  14. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 10:44 PM) Should have given them Konerko and Richar for Kendrick and Kotchman when we had the chance. There was never a chance. Don't fool yourself. Reagins/Stoneman is not retarded and Kenny Williams is not a Jedi.
  15. Well, Hawk just nicknamed Russell "The Vulture." I could definitely see that sticking.
  16. Sucks to be an Indians fan/employee right about now. f***ing heartbreaking.
  17. Wow, if Russell is going to be effective in high leverage situations then this bullpen just got even better.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 10:33 PM) I can only remember one game where he pitched more than 1 inning. He's gone 1.1+ innings in 7 outings this year, he didn't allow a single run in any of them.
  19. Linebrink's had a strange season: May: 1 ER, 1 HR June: 1 ER, 1 HR July: 1 ER, 1 HR? Ozzie truly believes in baptism by fire.
  20. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 10:25 PM) Sizemore 0-2 with 2k this year vs. Boone. Lifetime: 0-9 w/ 4K
  21. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 10:23 PM) Then that 1 was last time when Q hit the game un-tying single. Yep, the other run he allowed that inning was inherited.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 10:18 PM) There's a reason Linebrink has never been a closer. That's something people just can't understand. Setup man does not equal closer. Totally different animal.
  23. Octavio Dotel is just f***ing nasty.
