Rogers: Basically, Ozzie is trying to get fired on purpose...
Kalapse replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 03:53 PM) In the last year, He's been caught for DUI and one of his team's players killed himself doing the same thing. That's reason enough for me to not want him running our clubhouse right now. And when reporters started asking questions about the circumstances surrounding Hancock's death, LaRussa threatened to beat them with his fungo bat if they dare dig any deeper into the story. It was sickening. -
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 03:22 PM) Eckstein f***ing sucks and this club would be completely stupid to sign him as he will get a multiyear deal when one year is too long. I'd much rather sign Vizquel for one year around $2 million, but I still think that isn't that good of a move. If it came down to a 3-4 year $4M per deal to Eckstein or a 1 year $2M deal for Vizquel, I'd take a chance on Omar replicating his 2006 numbers (no matter how unlikely that may be.)

I, personally love the idea of Brent Lillibridge.

Did Da Orioles Get More For Trachsel Than We Did For Iguchi/Mack

Both Iguchi and Mackowiak will be available via free agency this offseason if the Sox just can't go on without them. -
Did Da Orioles Get More For Trachsel Than We Did For Iguchi/Mack

How are the two situations comparable? -
.291/.343/.344/.688 55 R, 15.5 2B, .5 3B, 2 HR, 24 RBI, 25:30 BB:K, 7.5 SB, 3.5 CS That's what he's averaged over the past 2 seasons. That's 18 XBH 18!
-
Boras will get Jones a deal similar to that of Vernon Wells.

THE RETURN OF THE HUMAN RAIN DELAY! There isn't a pitcher in baseball I hate watching more than Trachsel.

That's kind of the point, if he's not good enough for the Cardinals -- who have one of the worst offenses in baseball and no middle infield prospects -- why is he good enough for the Sox? And if I am right about him and the Cardinals feel the same way, why is he the White Sox's main target this offseason?
-
Mets and Phillies, one takes the East and the other takes the Wild Card.
-
Why aren't the Cardinals even making an attempt to re-sign Eckstein? He was a member of the World Series team and is apparently a damn good leadoff man. They have no in house replacement, why are they letting him walk?

QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 11:22 AM) Wish I had as much free time as you do. The man in your avatar has a strange effect on me, when he plays I must watch.
-
QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 11:14 AM) I think Eckstein is one of those players who you don't realize how good he is and what he does until he gets on your team and you watch him everyday. As long as it isn't Uribe, I'm fine with it. It's funny because I've seen about 80% of the Cardinals games over the past 3 seasons and I know for a fact that David Eckstein is f***ing horrible, injury prone and 33 years old.

It's going to be so much fun watching Eckstein next year. He'll duplicate his 03/04/07 OBP (.230's), spend a month on the DL (Andy Gonzalez will kick ass at short in his stead!), he'll have absolutely no extra base hits (the guy can't even hit 20 doubles) and no stolen bases all while playing meh defense with the worst infield arm in the history of the game. YAHTZEE!

It's all coming together. Eckstein Rowand Thome Konerko Dye Pierzynski Fields Richar Crede

Rogers: Basically, Ozzie is trying to get fired on purpose...
Kalapse replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm not sure I could watch Sox games anymore if that sleazy prick LaRussa were running the club. He's the last guy I'd like to see take over for Ozzie. -
If he is non-tendered by the Padres would a Jim Thome/Morgan Ensberg 2008 platoon be an acceptable/plausible scenario? I'm thinking no since Morgan would probably be looking for a team that would offer him more than say 100-150 ABs next season. Ensberg Vs Lefties: AVG OBP SLG OPS 02: 32 PA, .320 .469 .640 1.109 03: 119 PA, .316 .429 .592 1.021 04: 116 PA, .282 .351 .408 .759 05: 163 PA, .299 .411 .575 .986 06: 136 PA, .245 .463 .553 1.016 07: 107 PA, .260 .336 .479 .816 A 2006 Thome/Ensberg platoon would have theoretically put up a .303/.456/.702/1.159 collective line w/ 45 HR and a 114:104 BB:K ratio. Kevin Mench maybe? Career .917 OPS vs lefties.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 11:10 PM) I'd want Crede to play third and Fields to play left after playing it in winter league ball and spring training. Why not get Fields some experience playing LF in major league conditions? Believe it or not but the playing conditions in the AFL and ST are insanely different from those of the Cell. Who on the current roster would be more productive than Josh Fields in LF for the rest of this season? Getting him some work in Major League playing conditions can only help him in the future.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 11:03 PM) If this is KW's master plan, then neither does he. It is embarrassing to do what they are doing with Fields in left and the hack at third. It is ridiculous, embarrassing as loss after loss pile up. Why not just go all the way and have tryouts with young guys at every position this final month? Why are they pitching Garland, Mark B, Vazzy, we know what they can do. Sit them and bring up all prospects and let them also lose games. I understand what you are saying. I just don't think a team that won the WS two years ago should be a disgrace and this team is a disgrace partly because so many automatic outs are in the lineup. If Joe Crede shows he's healthy and ready to play in spring training of next season what would you like them to do with him?
-
QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 10:55 PM) Name one team in baseball that uses 2 months as a tryout for next year or the future. It's a ridiculous philosophy. You play the best players to win. In the offseason if you are a good organization or a bad organization that gets lucky, you acquire some free agents (like Soriano, not Erstad; I hate to compare us to the Cubs). A 2 month tryout is an insult to Sox fans who might want to spend a nice night at the park and try to win a few games or watch some games on TV and not have to puke because Fields is getting a tryout in left and some hack is at third. And some prospect like Richar is making outs at a ridiculous rate. No offense or anything but you have absolutely no clue how a professional baseball organization is run.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 10:53 PM) Well Richar is no Aaron Guiel you realize. Am I the only one who is blown away by the way some Sox fans talk about inexperienced rookies? I wonder what people would be saying about Chase Utley if he had started his career here. His first 86 major league ABs weren't any better than Richar's: .221/.277/.337.614.
-
QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 10:34 PM) Nice job offense, six hits. Good job. Nice hitting, Dye and AJ and Owens and the hitless wonder, Bee Bee Richar. The 24 year old rookie with less than 90 career ABs.
-
QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 10:39 PM) Because Kalapse, for whatever reason, I like to win games. It's baseball season and I like when the Sox win. I hate when they lose. I hate it more when they are the laughingstock of baseball. I don't give a s*** about draft picks. I just don't. This has jacks*** to do with draft picks, this has to do with the Sox getting a look at their top position prospect (Fields no longer being a prospect) in the final 2 months of the Major League season. Giving him the starting job for the rest of the season and maybe, just maybe finding a new $400K, 24 year old #2 hitter/2B which would be absolutely huge. Working out the future of this ballclub > Iguchi possibly winning this team 1 extra game down the stretch.
-
QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 10:35 PM) I give a s*** about Iguchi when his replacement can't hit any better than Bee Bee Richard. And what would be the point of still having Iguchi in the lineup at this point? At least with Richar out there the front office can get a look at him against major league pitching. Nothing good would have come from keeping Iguchi, there was literally NO downside to dealing him.
