  1. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 04:15 PM) Can Vidro still play second? Isn't he a free agent? His power has dipped but he still gets on base at a good rate and doesn't strikeout much which would please Guillen. He's signed through '08 with a vesting option for '09.
  2. This team already has a LOOGY and he unlike Myers has been getting lefties out this season plus he's like 13 years younger and doesn't have a silly name.
  3. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 10:46 PM) Konerko signed a 5 year deal following the '05 season.... By my count. he has 3 years (and six weeks) remaining on that contract. This is correct.
  4. I don't see his hip allowing him to play 8 more seasons with the White Sox.
  5. 1-0 Sox, bottom 1st. Thome hit a bomb to left. He still has that good oppo power stroke.

    Films Thread

QUOTE(shipps @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 08:18 PM) Am I alone in thinking Micheal Cera and Jonah Hill of "Superbad" are going to have long successful careers in comedic films?I dont think I solely enjoyed the movie on the writing of the script alone, those guys were amazing in the delivery. Michael Cera was great on Arrested Development as well. He'll stick around for quite a while playing that sort of character.
  7. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 08:22 PM) Wasn't Hirsch one of the pitchers in the near Garland/Houston deal? Yes
  8. QUOTE(BearSox @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 08:13 PM) I agree completely, but if my choices are down to him, Erstad, and Podsednik for LF and leading off, I'm afraid I'd have to choose Owens. You? I'll take Nook Logan or Ryan Church over any of them and I think Nook is terrible and Church is only decent.
  9. QUOTE(vandy125 @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 07:38 PM) Why all the hate for Owens in CF next year? If he keeps making improvements, I think he can be very solid out there. Then, we won't have to tie up a bunch of money in a FA CF, and we can see whay needs to be done to get a good SS, which I see as the biggest hole in the lineup. What does Jerry do well outside of 'run fast'? I know he's been amazing since being recalled in early July . . . 39 G | 156 AB | 19 R | 49 H | 2 2B | 1 3B | 1 HR | 7 RBI | 8 BB | 27 K | 14SB/3CS | .269/.313/.314/.627 and even better since July 19th (beginning of the BOS series) . . . 25 G | 106 AB | 8 R | 26 H | 2 2B | 1 3B | 1 HR | 4 RBI | 4 BB | 19 K | 9SB/0CS | .245/.279/.311/.590 but can't this team do better than a dirt poor, barely breathing (possibly dead) man's Nook Logan in the leadoff spot next year? It's pretty obvious the organization wants to go for it again in 2008. With a group of aging (but still quite good) veterans leading the way, this team is going to need a productive leadoff hitter if they want to win anything. I can't see Jerry Owens posting anything better than a .265/.305/.315/.620 (this is on the optimistic side) line in 500+ ABs next year and that's not going to get it done. I just don't think he's all that talented.
  10. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 11:56 PM) Young in CF would make things a lot easier for next season, but Hunter-Rowand-Cameron are all options this off-season. There really isn't a pitcher of Vazquez talent on the FA market this season, not for 11.5 at least... There isn't a pitcher even half as good as Javy that will be a FA this offseason.
  11. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 03:31 PM) Haha...thats seriously laughable. The move from the NL to AL wouldn't have a major impact on a guy like Z (not with his stuff). I realize his control problems would get him into a bit more trouble as he wouldn't have the pitchers spot to bail him out, but the guy has one of the best arms in all of baseball. I've seen close to every start Zambrano as made as a member of the Cubs and I can say with great confidence that switching leagues would have hurt him big time. The guy has amazing stuff but he also tends to leave hittable pitches out over the plate which is why he's made a living out of walking the more dangerous hitters in lineup to get to the #8 hitter or pitcher to end the inning. Having to face 8-9 legitimate offensive threats would be a huge challenge for Carlos and I'm not sure he'd survive it mentally. I also think not being able to get his 3 ABs per game would drive him insane. Zambrano was born to pitch in the NL.
  12. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 04:06 PM) I'd like to see him hit a little better than Uribe before appointing him a star. I'm not writing him off, but on the other hand, it seems ridiculous to name this guy the starter when he has only 45 ABs in the major leagues and isn't even hitting .200. Uribe happens to be oozing with talent as well. It doesn't mean its all going to come together. Uribe will make $5M next year if he's back while Richar would make the minimum. I'm 100% behind giving Richar the starting 2B job for next year, he's quick, slick defensively, knows how to take a walk and incredibly cheap. If I can get those 4 things out of my 2B/#9 hitter, I'm happy. Having 2 near minimum salary players in the starting lineup in Richar and Fields adds a whole lot of financial flexibility.
  13. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 01:00 PM) So is Kalapse's chart reflect those changes? Not yet, I'll update it with the prorated salaries of Iguchi and Mackowiak as well as Dye's new contract.
  14. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 11:44 PM) He also grew up a Sox fan. I'd love to have him back. He was actually playing good ball for us this year until we unloaded him for a 23year old A-ball relief pitcher. What was the point to even dealing him? So we could have clowns like Cintron batting with the tie run at 3rd in the 9th inning against jj putz? Pathetic. This organization is in shambles. The trade makes sense if they're intent on bringing him back as a free agent. Get something for him, make someone else pay the buyout and sign him on the cheap during the offseason. It's a good move.
  15. QUOTE(ottawa_sox @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 11:42 PM) The Mariner announcers said Alex had a .350 average with runners in scoring position. It's too bad his OPS with RISP and 2 out is .568.
  16. Rob Mackowiak needs to be brought back this offseason. His contract is going to get bought out and he's going to become a free agent. He grew up here, he loves the city, seemingly likes the organization and he's a good baseball player. Seems like a perfect fit.
  17. QUOTE(ottawa_sox @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 11:22 PM) I think I will back up on that suggestion. His fielding is above average (like Uribe) and his average is 25 points higher than Uribe's, but .............. the guy takes way less walks than Uribe (how could this be possible). Probably because McDonald is all glove and NO stick. He's one of the absolute worst hitters in the history of the game.
  18. That was quite awesome. And meanwhile Jerry Owens is still terrible.
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 08:05 PM) Well, at least Konerko and Thome are getting some time off... Gotta have 'em fresh for the stretch run.
  20. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 02:03 PM) Because we can trade starting pitching and still wind up having starting pitching be a strength. It's also entirely possible we could trade starting pitching and have our starting pitching get even better. Also the idea is to deal from a position of strength to address a position of great weakness.
  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 01:55 PM) No more so than our lineup for the last couple years right? 05 lefties were Pods, AJ, and Everett, 06 they were Pods, Thome, and AJ, 07 Pods/Erstad, Thome, AJ, and now the Rally Richar. True though it's been a while (2004) since this team had anything but a L-R-L-R setup at the top of the order. Pods - Iguchi - Everett - Konerko (2005) Pods - Iguchi - Thome - Konerko (2006) Pods/Erstad/Owens - Iguchi/Fields - Thome - Konerko (2007)
