  1. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 10:34 PM) I'm really not sure why anyone would really want to bring Podsednik back. It puzzles me. Maybe we all saw Darin Erstad and figured Scott Podsednik wasn't that bad. Personally, I'd love to have a $3M talentless bench player.
  2. QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 10:21 PM) the thing i like about bukvich is he's a big man with a fear factor for those batters to think about. he can throw a solid fastball in the low 90's consistnetly, so why not? Thornton and MacDougal are too talented to leave out of the pen. So there's 4 guys with the perenial All Star Bobby Jenks. Believe it or not, I like this Wasserman kid. He's earned his stripes the right way, from the bottom up. So that's 5 and hopefully, KW makes a nice dip in the free agent pool to bring us a proven reliever. Like who? Just curious who you're thinking about. RELIEF PITCHERS: 1.) Scott Linebrink 31 ---------- 2.) Joe Kennedy 29 3.) Joe Beimel 31 4.) Jorge Julio 29 5.) Aaron Fultz 33 '08 TO worth $1.5M or $150K BO 6.) David Riske 31 '08 TO 7.) Byung-Hyun Kim 29 8.) Joel Piniero 29 '08 MO 9.) Trever Miller 35 10.) Luis Vizcaino 33 11.) Joe Borowski 37 '08 TO worth $4M or $250K BO 12.) LaTroy Hawkins 35 '08 MO worth $3.75M or $250K BO 13.) Julian Tavarez 35 [bORAS CLIENT] 14.) Rob. Hernandez 43 '08 TO worth $3.7M or $200K BO 15.) Scott Williamson 32 16.) Mike Myers 37 17.) Ryan Franklin 35 18.) Octavio Dotel 34 19.) Ron Mahay 36 20.) Kerry Wood 31 21.) Jon Lieber 38 22.) Elmer Dessens 37 23.) Chris Reitsma 30 '08 TO worth $2.7M or $700K 24.) Eddie Guardado 37 '08 TO worth $3M 25.) Daren Oliver 37 '08 TO worth $2M or $250K BO OTHERS: Alfonseca, Carrasco, DeJean, Mesa, Timlin, Witasik, King, Romero, Villone
  3. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 10:19 PM) Has Bobby now tied that record? Yes and he's 3 outs away from tying the major league record.
  4. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 09:20 PM) I pay $8. Tip?
  5. So next year's pen looks like what right now? CL: Jenks SU: MacDougal SU: Thornton? MR: Logan MR: Wasserman MR: Bukvich MR: Free Agent? With Masset and Aardsma out of options so who knows.
  6. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 09:50 PM) I normally respect you but you're acting like an ass. So he has a lack of "leadership" for being injured? Uribe has very few cluth hits this year, if many hiyts at ALL worth noting. Erstad has done it most of the time he's played. Erstad's defense has been solid this year. Uribe's has slumped. I never said he's lacking leadership abilities, I'm sure he's great in the clubhouse. You see he's spent the majority of the season on the DL which makes it awful hard to contribute anything when in over 50% of the team's games you're sitting on your couch at home. See I'm old fashioned, I find a player who's only healthy for half he season to be pretty much useless. Take as many digs at Uribe as you like at least he plays. Uribe has a f***ing walkoff and a huge RBI triple today that's 2 big hits right there. Darin meanwhile has trouble swinging without pulling something.
  7. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 09:38 PM) Not this year. Yeah, you're probably right Darin was probably cheering his ass off from his couch during the 60 games he's missed this season. That sort of leadership is unquantifiable.
  8. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 09:33 PM) And Erstad continues to prove that he IS valuable to this club. Juan Uribe is more valuable than Darin Erstad.
  9. I gotta say, I absolutely love 4/5 of this infield (catcher included.)
  10. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 09:11 PM) I get my hair cut at a salon. Big whoop wanna fight about it? I spent $25 on my last haircut. There aren't many in this world I trust to cut my hair, I have no problem paying a little more if it means it'll get done right.
  11. Looks like Ichiro is feeling frisky tonight, he's acting like Willie Mays Hayes in centerfield. Running full speed into a backpedal, crouching and turning to his right to catch a routine flyball and climbing atop the CF fence in an attempt to nab Fields' second homerun. I fully expect him to catch a ball behind his back with his hat next inning.
  12. Oh Scotty, s*** like that does not help your trade value. tsk tsk
  13. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 08:14 PM) Ugh... is the title incorrect on this thread or what? Did the Cubs actually acquire Pods??? Claiming and acquiring are 2 totally different things. If you read the thread you'll learn all you need to know about the situation at hand and the waiver process.
  14. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 08:11 PM) Unless he had a weird contract, his entire deal was a bonus and the Cubs would be the team on the hook for it. That is at least typically how it works with draft picks. I know he had a convuluted deal that could pay him as much as 11mill or something (bonus). He only got a $2.5M signing bonus, he's guaranteed $7.2M over the next 4 years, plus he takes up a spot on the 40 man roster while making twice the major league minimum pitching at AA.
  15. QUOTE(My Dixie Normus @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 07:20 PM) What about Jeff Samardzija? He is sucking big time in the minors but he was supposed to be pretty good going into the draft. Last I saw he was 0-5 in A ball with a 5+ ERA. I'd rather see the Bears get Samardzija than the Sox but.... 1.) He's on the Cubs' 40 so he'd have to pass through waivers 2.) He has a full no trade clause 3.) He's expensive 4.) He's bad I think I'd rather have nothing.
  16. QUOTE(WCSox @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 05:47 PM) Not sure I'd go that far. Pods has been an effective leadoff hitter and base-stealer in the past. Not a stud by any means, but he certainly was a "good" player two years ago. I'm not sure if he'll ever be able to play at that level again, or if he'll be healthy long enough to be able to try. That's why I said "Scott Podsednik is not a good ballplayer" as opposed to "Scott Podsednik has never been a good ballplayer" keeping my statement in the present rather than including the past. RIGHT NOW he's not good at baseball and hasn't been effective for about a year and a half now. I have no reason to believe he'll ever be good again. Good to see that you agree with me on the main point though.
  17. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 05:30 PM) Podsednik is a good ballplayer, who contributed in a substantial way to our Wolrd Series victory year. He deserves some respect for that. I understand we are a group of "What have You Done For Me Lately/Today" folks, but we so undervalue our own players it is ridiculous. Pods is not the reason this team failed this year. Yes, he is injury prone as is Erstad, but they also can provide a spark when needed and when healthy. If neither are here next year it's because of those injuries and the emergence of one of our minor league players, or a free agent signing of a CF'er. I'd say the complete failure that was Podsednik/Erstad shoud take a substantial portion of the blame for the failures of this ballclub. It's real hard for a team to win anything when they're missing a leadoff hitter and 2/3 of the starting OF spends the majority of the season on the DL. Neither player should have been relied upon to be a main cog for the '07 team but this fact does not absolve either player from blame. They were given starting jobs and both have failed miserably. Scott Podsednik is not a good ballplayer and Sox fans do not undervalue him. The national media also seems to agree that he sucks and wouldn't contribute much to the Cubs during the stretch run so I guess the entire planet undervalues Pods. How do you undervalue a player who has spent 70% of the season on the DL and when healthy still doesn't contribute?
  18. QUOTE(beck72 @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 03:16 PM) The sox will and should trade Pods. The sox won't offer him arb. on the off chance he accepts, so they'd let him walk anyway. They would be getting something of value for him now at least. Pods would have no say in the matter, he'll only have 5 years of service time by season's end so if the Sox offered him arb he'd have to accept it. He's not a free agent until after next season.
  19. QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 11:41 AM) If the White Sox wanted to increase attendance, fan interest, revenues etc. they would hire Steve Stone and re-hiring John Rooney would be a good thing also. They should bring in Vin Scully while they're at it. And if the Sox really wanted to get some good publicity going they should fire Mike Murphy and stick Rongey in that time slot 5 days a week, that would create quite the buzz.
  20. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 10:27 AM) OK, so Murton probably isn't an option here. In the end, does anyone think we'd bring in a viable major league player for Pods? We got low A-ball players (one old) for Mack and Gooch. I fully expect to bring in something similiar there. These ideas of getting Murton or Cedeno are ridiculous in light of the fact we didn't get jackcrap for the other guys and Pods isn't exactly the greatest player who ever laced them up. Well Podsedink is considered somewhat talented and does have another fairly affordable season of arbitration left so I guess he should have some sort of value if you really stretch his worth to the point of lunacy. Kenny is apparently looking for "a decent pitching or infield prospect" according to Levine.
  21. QUOTE(soxfan3530 @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 10:09 AM) Question: Could the Cubs take Murton off the 40-man now or does he have to be in the minors when the player is picked up? Im guessing the latter but just thought i would ask. In order for Murton to be taken off the 40 man he'd have to first pass through waivers. So either way he's going to have to make it through waivers.
  22. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 10:00 AM) The link provided earlier this week was clear that not all players MUST be put on waivers. IIRC YASNY posted it. From the Transaction Primer Yasny posted: It would make no sense for Murton to NOT have to clear waivers, it would defeat the purpose of the Non-Waiver Deadline. Murton could be traded to the Sox as a PTBNL to be sent at season's end which is made possible since the Cubs are in the NL and the Sox are in the AL. That's the only way he wouldn't have to clear waivers.
  23. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 09:43 AM) Why does Murton have to clear waivers? The Cubs didn't put him on waivers...the Sox put Pods there and by rule the Cubs can now acquire Pods since no one else claimed him. I never heard that the player traded for the waived player also has to clear waivers. The rules are incredibly basic, if a player is on the 40 man roster he needs to clear waivers before he can be dealt. That's why they call July 31st the "Non-Waiver" trade deadline. The only players that can be traded without first passing through waivers are those players not on the 40 man roster. Murton is on the Cubs 40. When it comes to Podsednik to the Cubs I want something for him. If we're going to be helping out a desperate team trying to make a playoff push I want something of value in return. If the Cubs want to give up Single-A fodder then hold onto Podsednik and non-tender him at season's end. I'm not just going to give him away to a desperate playoff contender.
  24. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 9, 2007 -> 07:53 PM) I believe CLE was about 10 games out in the loss column in the first week of sept. '05. Yeah and Cleveland had 1 team to jump unlike the 3 the Sox would have to pass. It's not even comparable. Cleveland got hot and the Sox got cold, it worked out perfectly for them. For the Sox to make a run they'd have to get unbelievably hot (.800-.900 baseball the rest of the way) and 3 teams would have to absolutely tank. And that's not even taking into account the unbalanced scheduling, CLE, MIN and DET still have to play each other over the final month and someone has to win those games. Catching 1 team is not that hard, catching 3 is nearly impossible especially when you're as bad as the Sox.
