I'd do Contreras for Burrell. Pat has only 1 year left on his deal (2008) but he'll be paid $14M for that one season. At least with him you know you'll get about 25-35 HR, a very high OBP and a ~.500 SLG. I know the Phillies have tried to unload his contract in the past but I'm not sure Gillick is desperate enough to do such a swap.

There's one thing I need clarification on and I just can't find the answer anywhere online. When the Elias Sports Bureau rates the players by position (1B, OF, DH | 2B, SS, 3B | C | SP | RP), is a Type A free agent in the 20% at his position based on the entire league or just the other free agents? Would Rowand have to be in the top 20 percentile of free agent OF, 1B and DH or top 20 percentile of all 1B, OF and DH in the game? I'm almost certain that it's the top 20 percentile of free agents at that position but I just need to know for sure.
-
If 1B, DH and OF are all in the same category then there's about a 100% chance he'll qualify.

Sweeney missed a month and a half of the 2005 season after spraining a tendon and tearing cartilage in his write wrist.
-
Yes, yes he will.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 11:27 AM) How about Owners as well. Got to put JR on the top of that list. That's not saying much now is it? When your competition is Bill Wurtz, the McCaskey's and the Chicago Tribune/??? and you own the 2 teams that have won the last 7 Championships the city has seen you should probably come out on top. -
Good information there, when saying Anderson had a better spring the only thing I can go off of is what I see on the field. I'm not on the practice fields or waiting by the player parking lot to see when everyone shows up. I just see Anderson showing great plate discipline, solid power and excellent contact while Erstad looked completely lost at the plate for the majority of the spring. If Anderson lost the competition off the field, that's cool but I don't think he was going to be able to compete with Erstad's work ethic anyway (and it seems the off the fields stuff was weighted heavily in KW/Oz's mind), Darin is ridiculous when it comes to that aspect of the game, it's a shame the rest of his game is completely pathetic. I agree with the complete second half of your post. After Brian lost the competition in Spring Training I was pretty much done with him, I could really care less what he does for the rest of his career at Charlotte (since I doubt he ever plays in Chicago again). My question is, if Erstad had signed with the Marlins who would be the the starting CF this year? Owens? There was no one left in free agency at that point and I doubt they would have given the job to Anderson.

QUOTE(Purdue129 @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 10:05 PM) Coaches: Lovie Skiles Lou Ozzie (Left out Savard due to small sample size and a lot of injuries) GMs: Angelo Paxson Tallon KW Hendry This one seems to be pretty perfect. Lovie, Skiles and Lou are very close in my book, Skiles and Piniella are probably equal to me. -
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 01:19 AM) You'd put Hafner over Salty? Yes
-
Yeah but this has nothing to do with Anderson, I really don't care about that situation one bit it has everything to do with the front office having some false sense that Darin Erstad was a capable replacement for the Mack/BA platoon of '06.
-
QUOTE(WCSox @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 04:45 PM) Maybe it has more to do with Anderson than Erstad? Why play Mackowiak in favor of Anderson in '06, allow Erstad to take Anderson's job in '07, and then let Anderson rot in the minors while Erstad sits on the DL for most of the season? I wouldn't put intense, irrational dislike of Anderson (or any player) past Ozzie, but it seems more plausible that Anderson might have a serious attitude problem or something. This has absolutely nothing to do with Brian Anderson, I'm way past all that s***, all this has to do with is a false assumption that some people seem to have. I don't see how anyone can believe that Erstad was brought in here to compete for a starting job, he was signed to be the starter. Anderson was the clear winner of the CF contest in ST, there's no real debate there, Anderson had a MUCH better spring yet Erstad was given the job anyway. If it was attitude problems that killed any hopes Brian had of being the starter in '07 then those problems had to have been there in '06 when he was platooning with Mackowiak and again over the winter when he reluctantly played in Venezuela. There was no competition, KW and Ozzie knew what they had in Anderson and didn't want him starting in CF and that's cool, I have no problem with that but to bring in Erstad to replace him was a f***ing joke of a move.
-
It was obvious from the very beginning that Erstad was being brought in here to take over the CF job. I really don't think Anderson ever had a shot at winning it. As a 4th OF he would fit right in but Erstad could never be a 4th OF on this club while this current group (KW/Oz) is running the show. They would never allow it.

The most predictable failure KW's tenure, bringing in a mediocre 33 year old with a 63 year old woman's body to be the starting CF on your supposed World Series contending team . . . brilliant!

QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 03:03 PM) my posts are generally ignored.... no need qualify that statement with a friendly wink.... facts are facts. I still think Jason has you on ignore.

It's time to hang 'em up Darin. I'm sure the Angels can find a place for you somewhere on the coaching staff.

QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 01:43 PM) I agree. Some people need to stop acting like they know everything. Yeesh, get back to me when you have an original thought.

QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 01:40 PM) Give me a f***ing break. It's the second inning and he needs to get hitters out. If he's going to give up a .350 BAA against righties, he should rot in AAA. Bulls***, tell that to Mike Myers. If he's going to hold lefties to a sub .600 OPS there's no reason for him to be pitching 2 innings at a time for 2-3 days in a row. There are 7 guys in the pen, if you have one guy who you can count on to absolutely decimate lefties then you have something incredibly valuable on your hands. There's a reason why they call them LOOGYs.
-
It's a shame that Boone Logan will never reach his full career potential with the White Sox. He'll just never be used properly.
-
QUOTE(briguy27 @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 01:23 PM) You know when a guy with a .230 BA (Betemit) is hittin' 420+ foot shots, you suck. Wilson Betemit is a damn good player, huge power potential. He has an .833 OPS this year, how many guys on the Sox are anywhere near that?
-
QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 01:17 PM) I agree, but those guys are going play 10-15% of the remaining games. Ozzie isn't just going to let them sit on the bench for the next 55 games. So as long as they only get in once in a while. I'm ok with it. Hopefully this is just the "once in a while" days 3 of the last 4 games we've seen one of Richar or Fields benched in favor of a scrub, there's no reason for this. They are in their mid 20's they can play everyday, Cintron, Erstad and Podsednik need to be released, I can't think of a single reason for why they would be retained for the remainder of the season, not a one.
-
Lets be honest, the outcomes of these games just really don't matter anymore. It is an absolute JOKE that we're forced to watch completely useless AAAA pieces of s*** like Darin Erstad, Scott Podsednik and Alex Cintron. I truly hate the way this team is run.
-
We get to see Erstad and Cintron while guys like Fields and Sweeney are available. I have no idea why some of these guys are even on this team.
-
Of course there's no Fields in the lineup, he needs at least 20 days off over the course of the season, he's young, he can't handle a full schedule.
